Chapter Twenty Four

Madeline’s POV

“Alright, you are now signed up at our library,” a librarian gently types away on a computer, clicking each miserably slow key at a time.

“Here’s your card to check-out and check-in books, and here’s our number in case you need to contact us.” She hands me a plastic card with barcodes and numbers written all over it. I smile gratefully and turn to leave, “Every Crowd Has a Silver Lining” resting between my fingers.

After the initial shock of realizing my-intuition-is-probably-flawed-or-nonexistent-in-the-first-place, I decided to read the novel. If not to learn more about my cousin, then to distract myself from not learning more about my cousin.

Life handed me some bloody sour lemons so I might as well make some delicious lemonade.

I start to walk home carrying the book and my plaid coat. I pass many people, and unlike before, I don’t feel comfortable in a crowd. I feel lost, one among many. So, so many.
