It had been five days since Evie last saw or met Ezekiel.
Life had been boring, especially after her cell phone was confiscated and her movements were restricted.
She was under Alexa's supervision for twenty-four hours and she also couldn't visit some places in the house.
Her life was as boring as hell and what pained her more was that she didn't even know her life would return back to normal.
It was a bright Wednesday afternoon, Evie sat on the couch in the sitting room watching Netflix and eating popcorn. She really had to say that Netflix had kept her occupied though she still got bored of it.
She suddenly sensed someone in the living room. Tearing her gaze away from the television she saw Ezekiel collapsing on the sofa.
His hands ran through his hair as he shut his eyes, relaxing on the sofa.
His features were relaxed and she had to compliment, he looks good.
His eyes flickered open, as he held her gaze. She looked away immediately, not wanting to hold his gaze.
The awkward silence lingered in the living room until Evie decided to say something to ease the tension.
"Have you found anything about my mom's whereabouts yet?"
Ezekiel was silent, he did have an answer to the question but how was he going to relay the news to her?
Evie was disturbed by his silence, she could tell that something was off especially when Ezekiel looked at her with pity in his eyes.
Before she could say a word, Juicy, Lily, Sandra, Paul and Xander emerged through the front door.
Evie was shocked to see all of them. She felt like whatever they were here for wasn't good.
"Evie, it has been such a long time," Lily said as she engulfed her in a bone crushing hug.
"You look more beautiful since the last time we met," Sandra added with her smile.
"It is so nice to see all of you again but what is going on?" Evie directed her question to Ezekiel.
Juicy approached her and hugged her while stroking her red hair.
Evie tried to release herself from Juicy but Juicy's grip on her only tightened.
"For goodness sake what is going on?" Evie roared as the entire place became eerily quiet.
"Your mom is dead," Ezekiel announced coldly.
It seemed like the air became too hot for Evie to breathe and all her blood dried up.
What did Ezekiel just say? She held her chest, trying to catch her breath.
"It is a lie," Evie yelled while Juicy hugged her. Sandra and Lily were also trying to soothe her by rubbing her back.
"It is a freaking lie! My mom can't be dead," Evie cried out.
Though her mother had a hand in her current predicament, she never for once wished for her mother's death.
Truth be told, Sonia failed woefully as a mother but she never wanted her dead. Despite everything, she needed her mother alive.
She could still remember the good times she had with her mother, though it was just a few, she still cherished it.
Her breathing became uneven, and her eyes were full with tears. She could no longer breathe properly, making her lose consciousness.
Evie found herself on a mini bed with a drip attached to her hand. She looked around and found out that she was at the hospital.
She tried to sit up but she only groaned in pain, her entire body aches and she felt so sore all over her body.
She tried detaching the drip from her hand but a stronger and bigger hand stopped her from doing so.
"Behave," Ezekiel whispered into her ears and she stiffened immediately.
She held his gaze for a while until Juicy interrupted, "Evie, you are awake!" Her friend exclaimed rushing to her side.
Evie only flashed Juicy a wry smile and turned her attention to Ezekiel.
"Please tell me it isn't true," Evie whispered to Ezekiel, tears threatening to flow down her eyes.
Their faces were so close, not that Evie was concerned, all she wanted was to get the damn truth from Ezekiel.
"Please," she added as a lone year escaped her eye.
Ezekiel sighed, looking away from her. Somehow he felt like her mother wasn't really dead because no corpse was found but according to the bystanders, they said that the entire mansion was burnt to ashes.
Ezekiel faced her again, his hand gently caressing her chin, while the other hand stroked her red hair.
"I am sorry but she is gone," Ezekiel said calmly. His statement caused Evie to let the whole dam of tears in her eyes explode.
This wasn't true! It can't be true!
"Stop! I hate tears," Ezekiel ordered after a while of watching her cry, he did not know how to calm her down neither has he ever tried to soothe someone for his entire years of existence.
Evie looked up at him with teary eyes and Ezekiel did not know when he reached out to hug her. He allowed her cry her pain out.
"Listen to me Evelynn, I would find the people who assassinated your mother and trust me, I wouldn't spare them," he promised while stroking her red hair.
He liked the softness of her hair and he liked stroking his hands on her hair.
Evie nodded as Ezekiel wiped the tears off Evie's face.
That was the scene Alice saw when she arrived.
To say that she was shocked was an understatement, she was in utter disbelief. That can't be her son!
Ezekiel comforting someone was something she had never imagined in her entire life!
What had Evie done to him? It was so unlike him. Whatever it was Evie did to him, she didn't care, she would have to thank her later for a job well done.
A smile appeared on her face as she walked up to the couple.
Immediately Ezekiel sensed his mother, he stepped backwards and he usual expression returned.
Alice did not care if he switched back to his former expression but all that matters that Evie was slowly yet steadily melting his solid ice heart.
"Oh my!" Alice exclaimed as she reached out for her handkerchief and wiped Evie's tears away.
"I heard what happened," Alice said, sitting beside her on the bed, still wiping away her tears.
"It is okay, stop crying," Alice pleaded and Evie's sobs died down. Just then Evie noticed her friend wasn't in the room, maybe she left when she was talking with Ezekiel.
"I know Zeke would look into the issue, even if he doesn't agree I would force him to," Alice told her.
"Thanks mother. I don't know what happened but I know God in heaven is definitely watching," Evie said.
"Yes, he never sleeps nor slumbers," Alice added.
"I apologize on behalf of my husband, he has a lot of issues at hand and he needs to attend to them, but don't worry, he will definitely show up," Alice said with an apologetic smile on her face.
This woman never runs out of smiles! No matter the condition, she always smiles!
"And has your dad visited you?" Alice asked, earning a shocked expression from Evie.
Speaking of her dad, where had he been? And why hasn't he visited her?
Her father was and still is a greedy asshole and her mother divorced him meaning that half of his properties belong to her.
Evie knew her father so well, he would never let her mother get away with his properties.
Could it be that her father…
There was no hell way her father had a hand in her mother's death right?
