New Night, New Nightmares

---Several hours before nightfall---

"We are only nine, if we don't join up we won't make it" Wilder said to his comrades. "But what if he is like that fat toad we showed up with" a skinny brown haired man asked Wilder. Wilder stared at the skinny man "Rat, look around they are fed happy and look at that man named James like he already is a god". The small group started nodding their heads in agreeance of Wilder's words. "So we're all okay with joining Lord James" Wilder looked around as he said these words.

Walking out of the small wooden shack his group was given Wilder headed to the command tent. Before Wilder even made it to the front of the tent he saw James come out. "What was your decision" James asked Wilder before he could even speak. "We will follow you but with one condition, you have to treat us the same as your men here" Wilder replied with a stern expression. James stared at Wilder with a blank expression before he broke out in laughter. "Doesn't following me already make you my men Wilder" Jame stated while still laughing.

Hearing this Wilder didn't know whether to laugh or cry as he just sighed in relief. Quickly reigning in his emotions James asked Wilder what was the status of Wilder and his men. Wilder snapped to attention at this question and made a report. "We are long swordsman, equipped with plated leather much like yours sir. One of my men is a blacksmith aswell, said he has a scroll that gave him the occupation". Nodding his head at the information Wilder told him James told sent him to Rolf for taking after conferring the rank of captain of the Longsword troop.

Watching Wilder leave James went back inside the command tent and started to finish reading the reports that were put on his table earlier. Putting down the last report Rolf walked through the tent door with a grim face. "What's wrong Rolf" James asked in a upset tone. "Hurry the the wall my lord, night is coming and you need to see this" Rolf spoke as fast as he could.

Running to to the wall James saw Erick barking orders tring to get the soldiers in formation on the walls. Making his way up the ladder to the front gate a nightmarish monstrosity of a spider was watch him from the woodline. Cold sweat poured down the men on the wall as they watched the giant spider walked slowly out of the woods as the shadow of night crepted towards the wall as the sun set.

"ALL SPEARMEN TO THE WALL, LONGSWORDSMEN TO THE FRONT GATE" James bellowed as loud as he could. Giving a last check to his equipment James prepared for battle. The giant spider move slowly forward as a horde of smaller spiders ran past it jumping to the walls. "Hold your weapons tight my men just like before wait till the get within thrusting distance" Rolf yelled out to the spearmen on the wall.

The first spider made to the wall leaping halfway up as it quickly scaled the rest of the way in seconds tring to get to the fresh meat at the top. Watching the spider climbing up in front, James readied his spear as the spider leaped up the last 3 feet of the wall. Just as it made it to the top of the wall it was ran through by James's spear with a practiced motion. The spider siezed and fell as James ripped his spear out of its head.

Like a switch was hit as the first spider fell ten's of spiders breached the top of the wall and were engaged by the spearmen. James started killing as fast as he could while keeping a eye on the giant tarantula like spider getting ever closer to the front gate. "Wilder hold the gate if this thing breaks through before we thin out the small ones we're going to be overrun" James hollered out to the new editions to his force. Stabbing a half dead spider that fell from the wall Wilder yelled back a confirmation.

With logs in place to reinforce the wall Wilder encouraged his men to hold strong and show there new lord that they were not useless people. Killing two more spiders that made it up the wall James saw the giant spider was within striking distance of the gate. Seeing the large spider in more detail, James could finally get a clear view of how massive it truly was. Its front legs looked like shielded pillars with three pronged claws at the tip. The body took up every bit of the space in front of the eight foot gate. Shuddering at the shear size of this thing James griped his spear tighter as he continued to clear the smaller spiders.

The giant spider reared up on it's back legs as it crashed down on the gate, sending a earthshaking quake through the entire encampment. Tring to keep his footing from the massive hit, James was lucky to stay standing as a few of his soldiers fell down from poor footing. Luckily any spider climbing the wall was thrown off it gave the soldiers time to reorganize catch their breath for a spit second. Hearing Wilder yell James was broke from his stupor, snapping back to James new something had to be done about the large spider breaking through the front gate.

Reigning in his panicked breaths James steeled his heart and his grip on the spear as he looked down at the giant spider. Seeing its rear back up James griped the wall for support as the next hit came. As the massive front legs hit the gate a loud crack could be heard from the gate. "GATE BREACHED, HOLD TO THE LAST MEN FOR LORD JAMES" Wilder yelled to his men as they threw themselves into the mass of spiders that started clawing there way into the hole in the now broken gate.

Knowing something had to be done James steeled his nerves as he leaped from the front of the wall. With his spear pointed downwards James landed on top of the giant spiders back, his spear burying itself a solid foot into the soft part between its head and torso. Letting out as massive shriek that shook James to the bone. He held on to the embedded spear as the giant spider reared up at the pain of being hurt. Letting his shield drop James ripped the spear out and rammed in back into the same spot, tring to pierce deeper into the spider.

Landing four more hits like this on the spider it reared back again and shook finally launching James off it's back. Landing hard on his back four or five meters away James coughed out some blood as he shakily climbed to his feet. Hold his spear tightly with both hands the giant spider turned to James and stared at him venomousliy as it lumbered forward toward him. Preparing for its next attack James ran forward choosing to meet it head on.

Raising its large leg to swipe at James, he rolled under the spiders attack to get to the softer underside and thrusted up hoping to pierce something important. Rearing up again at the pain of being attacked on it underside, James was lifted up with it and brought crashing back down. Feeling sharp searing pain in his left leg James lost hold of his spear. Forcing himself up gritting through the pain James lunged back for his spear still embedded in the spiders underside.

Grabbing hold of his spear and roaring loudly James use all his strength to push the spear deeper into the giant spider. Releasing a soul shattering scream the spider started shaking as it slowly fell to the ground. Still under the falling spider James collapsed to the ground along with the giant spider. Stuck underneath the spider James was left with just enough space to not be crushed completely. Breathing out a huge sigh James passed out as a large amount of notification started to pop up on his hud.
