Background
Lilian has always had it all wealth, fame, love family everything that others were jealous of until it all came crashing down when her father's company went bankrupt and he was arrested
Lilian's father had embezzled money and gambled away their life's hard work.
After her mother Rose died he became a drunk and very soon not only was he scammed but he also gambled away their life savings.
Going from rich to poor was a culture shock for Lilian.
Lilian went from having designer bags to selling the ones she owned, the clothes she could sell she sold too, the responsibility of her younger sister fell on her and she also had to repay the debt that her father owned loan sharks no matter where she ran they always found her. The house she lived in with her sister was depleted the condition was bad.
muddy crusty walls that was thin the surrounding was filthy and dangerous but it was what they could afford and they made do turning the house into what they could be proud of.
Lilian had never been more glad that her mother had made sure to teach her to handle basic house chores especially cooking it helped them save a lot of money as she could not have been spending money on fast food.
she had dropped out of school so she could sponsor her younger sister. Her skin went from beautiful to ragged and she had to work three part-time jobs every day she could only sleep for a few hours but even with all these the sisters fought to be happy, they shared their small and big joys.
Anyone could see how much they loved each other, their father taught them to never betray each other no matter what happens.
No matter what the world called Mr. Evan to the two sisters he was and until the last moment a great father to them even with his mistakes.
It had been two years since they started living their new life. They had begun to get used to it and sometimes even enjoyed it, learning to appreciate the small joys that they had.
Lilian was home today because she had a day off from one of her part-time jobs but she had another in the evening, she was cleaning when she heard a knock on her door.
"Amber could you get the door"
" Sure thing sis" Amber replied.
A few moments later she hears the sound of footsteps behind her and she gets shocked when she sees the person that has come to her house it is Mrs. Aurora the grandmother of the richest bachelor in the country!.
Lilian had been engaged to Caleb Lane son of the richest and most powerful family in their country their history went way back, they were old money that no one dared to offend whatever they gave was what you took no one spoke against them even the president had to give them face.
Even with the power of this family, she had not gone to ask for their help because she wasn't close with them she had never met Caleb Lane as he had been hidden from the public up until he took the position of CEO his pictures could not be found online before then as a means of protection for him and the one time after the incident when she had seen her future grandmother in law she had pretended not to know her.
Lilian hadn't had faith in the Lanes that they would help her and she heard that her fiance already had a three-year-old son. Her face had not been so thick to try and ruin a family after a while she learned that her father received a very formal letter that the engagement was called off when she had gone to visit him in prison.
Besides all the friends she and her family friends had rather than help her, humiliated her, and laughed at her when she went to them for help even her best friend Kayla whom she helped when Kayla's family was facing crises deserted her. It had gotten so much worse when people began to refuse to help them or give her a job that was when she decided to move to another city using the money she got from selling her expensive clothes, bags, and shoes.
Caleb Lane was seven years older than Lilian, they had been engaged because their mothers were best friends. Both friends wanted to join their family together so they drew up an engagement contract although after both of them had died the Lanes and Evans had grown apart so Lilian had not expected to meet Caleb's grandmother or even expect to see her in her house.
Mrs. Aurora looked at the apartment she was in with disdain and disgust she could not believe she was there, the house was too small if it could even be called a house she did not know what her late daughter-in-law was thinking drawing up an engagement contract and stating that if Caleb and Lilian did not get married when Lilian was 20 the Evans could take half of the Lanes property as their own.
Mrs. Aurora was not aware there was a contract until her son had called her to tell her about it just last week not only had her grandson known about it before her and did not have a complaint about marrying such an ordinary girl plain girl, okay she could agree that the girl was a beauty with her natural wavy chestnut hair, her tall legs and lightly freckled face with piercing blue eyes that younger sister of hers look the same they could even be almost said to be twins "
Should I get you a glass of water?"Liliana asks
Mrs. Aurora waved her off dismissively. "I have no intention of drinking anything in this place. Besides, I didn't come here for refreshments."
Confused and somewhat intimidated by Mrs. Aurora's imposing presence, Lilian refrained from asking why she was there. Her mother had taught her to be polite, after all.
"Did your father tell you about the fact that you were engaged to my grandson?" Mrs. Aurora finally spoke, her tone carrying an air of authority.
Lilian nodded, still puzzled by the unexpected turn of events. "Yes, he did. Although, I thought it was broken."
A sharp, cynical laugh escaped Mrs. Aurora's lips, causing Lilian's heart to sink. "Broken? Your smart mother made sure that the marriage would certainly take place," she remarked, her gaze piercing. "I don't understand what you mean," Lilian admitted, her voice tinged with confusion and apprehension.
"What I meant to say is that you and my grandson will be getting married in a month, unless you want to pay a three-million-dollar fine for breaking the contract."
Lilian's eyes widened in disbelief. "Contract? What contract? I did not know about any contract," she stammered.
Mrs. Aurora's face remained unyielding. "Your mother and my daughter-in-law had drawn up an engagement contract, which is why I am here now. The marriage will be happening on the 24th of next month."
Lilian felt as if the ground had been pulled from beneath her feet. Her past, present, and future had all collided in this single moment, and she struggled to find the right words to express the whirlwind of emotions raging within her.
As Mrs. Aurora turned to leave without waiting for Lilian's response, a million questions swirled in Lilian's mind. She was left standing there, grappling with the weight of an unexpected destiny that was about to unfold before her.
