“She ain’t worth it. Your doctor friend. She’s out there, you’re in here. Ain’t no way.”
Silence filled the hallway.
Cam stared down at her hands. She knew that Gina’d been watching her for the past several days, but hadn’t realized she knew Cam was awake.
“That’s not what I’m thinking,” Cam answered after a moment. Actually, it was exactly what she was thinking, but not who she was thinking about. The thought of Michael still lay heavily on her heart and was a major item on her to-do list.
“Look, she’s out there. You know she ain’t saving it for you.” Cam’s shoulders tensed. “Sure, she comes to see you every other week. Soon, it’ll be every month, then just once in a while. What’s a high class doctor want with a convict for a lover?”
Cam wished she could stop Gina’s words, but stopped herself instead. Why was she having this reaction?
“You got a lot of anger,” Gina tried again.
“Everyone does.” Damn, couldn’t people just let her be angry without reminding her about it?
