KIDNAPPED

Madison shouted as loudly as she could, "What do you want from me?" But all she received in response were male chuckles, indicating she wasn't alone in the room.

After a while of yelling, she heard the door slam shut and the locks being jammed. Now, she was alone in the room, tied to a chair with her wrists and ankles bound, and her eyes blindfolded with a piece of cloth.

She had screamed and demanded her release, but it soon became clear it was futile. She desperately wanted to know who had done this to her, but she couldn't think of anyone who would want to kidnap her.

She wasn't from a wealthy family, and even though her family had paid off their debts by selling her off, it didn't mean they were well-off. She wondered who in their right mind had captured her, especially since her predicament was no secret due to an impending court trial. Her father was just a penniless earl living off someone else's money, and she doubted he'd pay a hefty ransom.

Moreover, her kidnapper likely knew she had no money or properties since the duke was determined to charge her in court and deny her any of his inheritance or wealth even thou she wanted none of it. At that moment, her main concern was finding a way to escape.

The door creaked open, and someone entered. She waited for them to speak, but the silence was unbearable. "Show yourself!" she screamed, yet no response came. She began to doubt if anyone had entered; it could have been her exhausted mind playing tricks.

She was tired, hungry, and her body ached from being bound and blindfolded for an unknown duration. Her thoughts raced, considering various scenarios. Maybe her captor had a personal vendetta against her, making her situation even more worst.

Determined to escape, she taunted, "Or are you scared of me? Scared I'll remember your face and make you pay?" Her words elicited an evil chuckle, a woman's voice she found oddly familiar.

"And how will you make me pay when you can't even free yourself?" the woman taunted, yanking her hair painfully. Leaning in, she whispered, "No one will come for you, especially him. I'll keep him far away from you, for good."

Finally, it clicked. The voice belonged to the woman who had wreaked havoc in her life, and it seemed she was still intent on causing harm. Though it hurt, Madison was relieved he was moving on with another woman and engaged to someone else not her

Defiantly, she retorted, "Even if he's a thousand miles away, he'll never be yours." She laughed, grateful her mouth wasn't gagged, but a harsh slap silenced her.

The force of the blow made her certain the woman wasn't alone in the room. "Who's laughing now?" she sneered, pulling Madison's hair tighter.

"Let me go," she spoke with great difficulty her voice strained due to her injured lips.

"I'll release you," the woman hissed, "but not until I'm done with you."
