Chapter 18
Title: Unexpected Situation...
….
Watching the Red Hair Pirates ship approaching us wasn't good at all. Mostly because Garp was annoyed as hell and when he was in that state of mind, he crushed things around him.
Still, though, the old man was throwing cannonballs like we were playing baseball, and each of those would destroy any ship, his aim was impeccable.
But there was when all of that amazement ended because Shanks wasn't any other two-bit pirate.
Pow!
A gunshot rang out from Shank's ship.
BOOOOOM!!!
The cannonball in Garp's hand exploded, someone had shot it from Shank's ship, some damn good sniper too. It probably was Usopp's father.
The old Vice-Admiral wasn't hurt, but the ship was a little damaged and so were some of the crew members that were around him. This pissed off Garp, seeing his marine crew on the ground and groaning in pain.
"These bastards! I am going to sink them all!" Yelled out Garp in anger, suddenly he leaps off the ship and straight towards the Red Hair Pirates. At this time, suddenly a storm came out of nowhere and the waves rose so high that they seemed to reach the sky.
"Everyone, don't worry about Garp! Make sure our ships aren't sunk!" Yelled out a man wearing a fedora and suit, he usually had a grumpy look, but today he took charge.
I just looked at all of this from the sidelines,
BOOOOM!
A gigantic wave was cut in half, I didn't see the slash or who attacked. Only the man in the fedora was now putting his katana back in its scabbard.
Should I jump off to help Garp? Nah, I would probably get hit by a wave and drown to death before even doing something of a difference. Well getting myself killed would be a difference, just not a big one.
Also, did I just fúck up the timeline? Garp came to get me from North Blue and met Shanks coincidentally in the sea, this didn't happen in the original story.
If one of them dies then I can say goodbye to my future knowledge.
*sigh* Why can't life ever be easy? Though, I guess I did choose this all for myself. Instead of living a peaceful life, I choose this instead.
Plus recently I started feeling proud for learning Haki, but now… yeah, that little confidence disappeared in the wind. I was severely outclassed here, I had no bearing in such a battle.
It wasn't just me, I could see that even my closest confidants, Negan and Raynare were terrified too. This wasn't a battle for people of our level. We couldn't distinguish ourselves here, and if we interfered, all of us would be some side character who died uselessly.
I couldn't see what went on between Garp and Shanks on the latter's ship. But by using my Observation Haki, I could sense their attacks, but they didn't seem to connect, yet the damage they caused was enormous.
The sea shook from their power clashing, even the clouds were moving erratically.
….
Ten days, that was how long the battle between Shanks and his crew against Garp lasted, I was confident that they were going easy on him, not wanting to kill Luffy's grandfather. The old man was strong, but he wasn't strong enough to battle a Yonko, his commanders, and crew all alone for ten days straight.
Many marines had died due to the storm, and on the 10th day, Garp had backed off from the Red Hair's ship.
During the commotion, I had been too busy to try and look for some kind of safety, that I never even bothered to think of my men. After all, my life was in danger too, more so than theirs, because if I fell in the water then I would be domed.
"Ray, call Negan. We need to get the men back on order." I called over my cute 3rd in command, Garp was injured and would be sleeping for most of the time. The old man had no grave injuries but some slashes here and there, plus some bleeding from his nose and mouth.
"Sir… Negan… he…" Ray looked at me reluctantly, like she didn't want to say something.
My hand clenched involuntarily, that was the only outward expression I would allow myself to grieve my good and trusted friend. Eventually, I had planned for him to have the Lightning Fruit, but… he went up and died in some unknown battle with an unknown name to the world. All of this happened because Garp went and fought Shanks unprepared and recklessly.
If this was in the Manga, I would have just enjoyed it as some marines fell in the water and the awesome fight went one. But one of those nameless marines was my best friend who died because of Garp's carelessness.
"Is he dead?" I asked her to confirm.
The shaky nod that she gave was all that I needed. "Though the body hasn't been found, he has been declared dead."
Right now I was tempted to go and slit Garp's throat while he was injured. It was probably the last chance I will ever get to kill someone like him, Shanks can be taken care of later.
But, I wasn't a man of revenge, plus if I killed Garp the chances of my death just skyrocketed. After all, the new world wouldn't treat weak people like me nicely.
Negan… to die like this… damn it!!!
...
One week later I had moved in my ships as Garp escorted us to the Red Line. Usually, I would never even bother with a weapon to master, since my only concern had been strengthening my body and learning Haki.
But taking Negan's spiked bat as my own was more of a semblance thing. I will master this weapon. I will never grieve or cry for him, I will probably make friends like him sooner rather than later. Still, this spiked bat is my tribute to a man who died too early, he was meant for so much more in my plans.
"Ray, from now on I want you to be my right hand," I tell my now only semi-trustworthy crew member. She looked at me sadly but nodded anyway.
"Yes… we will make this work." I heard her whisper as she walked away. Lately, I have been training privately in my room, my men have taken it as grieving for my best friend. Well, I didn't bother to change their notions.
Still, though, I played my confidence as any leader should. This side of the world was too much for us, even with Garp's protection. At least my anger was able to help me quite a lot in mastering Armament Haki and can now harden my arms with Haki more times than not.
"Sir we have sight of the Red Line!" Yelled out Skinny Joey… well, Fat Joey died too… so I guess Skinny Joey was now just Joey. Damn, what a tragedy.
..
It was a majestic sight for what essentially was just another big rock. But then again, everything in the world could be classified as a big rock.
It's like a giant wall that went far above the clouds with seemingly no end in sight.
But while others might seem amazed by it, I only have one thought in mind. How strong do I have to be to crush something like that under my fists? Can Kaido's most powerful attack pierce right through it?
So many questions, but all of them are useless for someone of my current strength. I would barely put a dent in the thing even when using my strongest attack.
"So we are going to go up the wall right?" I ask my new person in 2nd command.
"Yep," Raynare answered, "We will move up the wall by elevator and our ships will be moved to the other side too. Though I don't know how."
I nodded. "Well, anyway, stick close to me, Raynare."
She looked at me, and for the first time in a while, she didn't blush and instead nodded her head in confirmation. It seemed like the little girl was growing. No longer was she confused with her role in this world. Though I guess that would be due to me, confidence inspires confidence, I fake mine and she believes in it.
….
-Change POV-
Saint Shalria liked to consider herself above the normal humans of the trash below the heaven she lived on.
Currently, she was atop a giant man slave that she used as a horse, even had a chain around his neck. A dozen men in dark suits also followed her, for protection.
Like other World Nobles, Sharlia was dressed in a thick white suit with medal-like knobs which supplied her with oxygen to save her sharing the same air as commoners. The collar of her suit has a flower-like pattern with lace at the top. The flower pattern on her suit repeats at the sides of her skirt. Her hair inside the bubble was styled upwards, forming a curl above her head. She wore a veil over the lower half of her face and light orange-tinted shades over her eyes. She also wore heart-shaped earrings.
'Today is a good day.' She thought, 'Though it's a little boring.'
But those thoughts didn't last for long, as she saw a marine in a captain's uniform, he had slightly spiky brown hair, and his face wasn't bad looking. Spending all of her days with her relatives and guards who would have chosen other carriers if they had good looks, so to her, the young marine was quite good-looking. Also, he seemed young… just as she liked them.
Alongside her was another petite man, who used their marine hat to over their eyes. They looked too weak to her tastes though.
"You, there, come, let's go to my bedroom!" She yelled out her order.
The man stopped and smiled at the young Celestial Dragon. "Hi, my name is Max, and I don't really go out with loose women. Plus, there needs to be a date before we do something like that. What can I say? I am a sucker for romance."
The enraged look that appeared on her face was something that the young Celestial Dragon had ever experienced.
Her bodyguards didn't need to be given orders as they immediately used <Soru> kicking off the ground at incredible speeds towards Max, ready to subdue or kill the man in an instant.
....
I thought about this a lot and how it will affect Max.
P.S: Yeah, Max was angry as hell at Negan's death. He even contemplated killing Garp right there and then. That's something very illogical that he usually wouldn't do, but yeah... he was super close to ending Garp.
