One Last Time (Lee Eunhyuk x Reader)

"Why are you still here," his voice broke down the silence that spread around the room as soon as the signal went out again. "We don't have the luxury to hold grudges on each other. Besides," she said turning to him, "I know I'm a burden." (๑•́ ₃ •̀๑) A new girl moved to live in a quiet area of a dingy but warm space of Green Room Apartment to stay closer to her college. Apart from having a quite busy life, Y/N was pretty much happy. She found happiness from little things in life - annoying a resident wearing specs was one of them. Having a teensy bit of a crush on him was not exactly a lie. But she had other priorities to focus on, ofcourse. Well atleast she had. With a turn of events, and monsters crawling in and out of the building, her daily life took a halt in its steps. She heard in stories that traumatic events often brought two people together. And that felt true until the only person she felt safe around showed a different side.

Moving In

"Sir why is the bill 150 bucks high now?" The girl balanced her mobile between her head and shoulder, holding a suitcase on one hand, a huge bag on the other and a backpack on her back. "Okay, mom I can't hear you right now. I'll call you when I have time," she said and put her phone in her pocket, ignoring the voice of her mother in the device.

"I told you it would take extra money if I drove in near the apartment," the cab driver said with a hoarse voice.

Y/N didn't know if she should argue considering she had no idea about this place. But she wasn't about to back down, "Extra money means 50 bucks at the most. Are you kidding me? It's not even that far-"

"Then you should've walked!" he started shouting, "I've dropped you and I want the full money now!"

She started to feel a bit nervous. Maybe it wasn't worth the fight, but her parents were already sending her a lot of money every month. She doesn't even have the face to ask for more. She knew they were doing their best but it wasn't exactly enough to cover the extra expenses of her college. She was pretty sure that rent, bills and groceries alone would take up the extra money. She needed some more money to look after the travelling expenses and college assignments. Y/N looked at the security guard cleaning the entrance with a broom, hoping he would listen to the commotion and come for help.

It was useless. The man was either deaf or too focused on his job to notice her. Her eyebrows furrowed as the tone of the cab driver rose with each passing minute. When she was about to give in, she heard a voice.

"What are you scamming a student for?"

He sounded gloomy and serious. She waited for him to speak up and help her out her further.

"Wh-what are you saying! These are the usual rates!" the cab driver argued.

"I live in this building. So now you're gonna tell me how much it takes from the airport?" the man said, calmly. "Give him the money he said he'll take before you got in."

Y/N understood that the second sentence was meant for her. She hurriedly took out her wallet from her bag and gave him the money. The driver grunted, unhappy with the settlement and snatched the money from her hands. She sighed in relief and smiled to herself as the cab drove away.

"Oh!" she remembered and turned to thank the stranger for his help but found the place empty. Feeling a bit creeped out, she looked around for a while, but noticed no one was there other than the security guard who was finally running towards her.

"I'm so sorry ma'am, I didn't notice!" he said, bowing down in the process to express his apology.

She immediately responded, "Oh no, it's fine! I mean it would've been better if you arrived here faster but it's all okay now."

"I heard about a new person arriving. Uh, I'll get your keys right now!" he said and rushed in his little office. He arrived after a little while holding the keys to her apartment - 1508. "You can go! I'll take your suitcases upstairs."

"Oh sure I'll help you!" she said, smiling. No way she was letting an absent-minded security guard take care of her luggage. Nope.

Y/N entered her room and kept her keys on the table; calling her mother back. As expected she was mad about her daughter cutting off her call.

"You think you're all grown up now that you're in college now huh?" her mother scolded, "Don't cut my call off like that!"

"Mom, I'm in my apartment," Y/N said changing the topic, "It's furnished like you said."

"Are you sure all the things are there? Look properly."

"I'm too tired now, but.." she looked around and dropped flat on her bed, "everything looks good to me."

"Oh okay. Get some rest and keep your things locked properly. You don't really know how the security guard is, right? What if something gets stolen?"

"Mom, you're worrying too much."

Her mother's voice softened as she spoke, "Well, this is the first time you're so far away from us. Buy some groceries in the afternoon. We've already sent you the money."

"Oh I know, I got the message," Y/N said. She knew no amount of words were enough to reassure her worrying mother. The least she could do is to tell her everything was as good as she expected. It wasn't like they were going to physically come there to solve her problem with one phone call.

"And make sure to talk to the neighbors. Keep a good relationship with them, you don't know when you'll need help."

"Oh yeah, ofcourse. One of the residents helped me with the cab today," she said, "His voice sounded sad as fu-"

"Language lady," her mother interrupted, "Don't casually say slangs like that! You need to make a good impression."

"Why..." Y/N muttered, "I just came here for 4 years."

"That's a lot of days. Oh! Make him some food and offer it as a thank you gift!" her mother said.

Y/N groaned, "Mom, I don't even know how he looks."

"You don't look at people when they talk with you?!"

"No- that's not what I meant. I mean I was too focused on the driver. His voice was...low..I mean like you know what I mean?" Y/N explained remembering the way he disappeared into thin air as fast as he arrived to help her.

"Let me finish my story first, you'll understand," she said proceeding to tell her mother about her day. But once again she was out of luck as she got interrupted by loud music playing on her floor. Annoyed at the interference, she sighed and informed her mother who's sharp ears already caught the sound over the phone, "Okay I'll tell you later. I guess one of my neighbor is a huge music lover."

"Tell them to keep their love for music to themselves atleast," her mother sounded pissed. Y/N chuckled at her response and said, "You just told me to make a first good impression mom."

"Well I didn't tell you to be rude or anything," she said, "I guess now that you've grown up you can handle things yourself. Just...be careful okay? Send me pictures of the apartment."

"Ah shit," Y/N thought to herself, as her mother cut off the call. Her apartment wasn't exactly as nice as she imagined it to be. Or as clean as it showed in the photos. She needed to buy some decorative items for the room so that it looks decent enough to click some pictures for her parents.

As the music got louder, she noticed the pipe in her room vibrate. Sighing, she got up and walked out of her apartment and looked both sides of the hallway. The sound seemed to come from the left side and one of the neighbors was already on their door, slamming her hands on apartment door, shouting and telling them to turn it off.

Soon the music turned off and the angry lady went back to her apartment grumbling on the way. As she was thinking if she should go back in, or go introduce herself like her mother said, the door of the apartment from where the music came in, opened up and a girl with pink highlights peeked out.

She looked at the angry lady's apartment door and slowly her eyes moved to look at Y/N.

Y/N looked back at her and offered a smile saying, "I just moved here. My name is Y/N Y/L/N."

The girl smiled back and said, "I'm new here too. I am-" Hearing loud footsteps approaching from the angry lady's apartment, the girl squealed out, "Yoon Jisu!" and ran in her own apartment, locking the door behind herself.

Y/N chuckled at the sight and got back in, looking around at all the luggage. "Ah..all these stuffs now.." she rubbed the back of her neck, groaning, "okay, shower first."
