Get Together

"I already handed in the assignments, so I can get some holidays you know," Y/N said, rolling her eyes as she was walking towards the building. Yawning, she looked around and found the streets awfully quiet. To be honest, she did live near a secluded area but it didn't look as deserted as it did now. There was something different in the atmosphere tonight.

Concentrating on her group call, she heard the voices of her peers complaining about the group assignment. Well, they did think that they were going to get marks easily without putting any effort, so Y/N didn't feel the need to include their name in the group project too.

"I did give you the links of the sites! You could've included my name atleast-" one of them started defending themselves when she interrupted, "You call that work? You gave me the links on the first page of google without even reading through the articles, and you expect me to give your name in it?"

"I thought we were friends. You really showed your true face."

Y/N scoffed at the comment and said, "I thought friends help and support each other? When I asked to hand in your part of the project, all of you just read my texts and didn't reply. And by the way, I don't care if you're my friend, unless you have a good reason, you have to work on your part and I expect professionalism from you."

Before they could continue any further Y/N ended the call saying, "Complaining about me on a group call is of no use now. Next time choose a different group or do your part in the project. It's called a group project for a reason. You guys really think ganging up on me on a phone call will do you any good? I have this call on record, so think before you do anything assholes."

She cut off the call and walked in, waiting for the lift. As the door opened, a familiar face appeared.

"Hi Eunhyuk!" she greeted him, "Don't worry I won't follow you!"

"Good to know."

"Atleast for a couple of days from now," she muttered.

"....going somewhere?" he asked, clearing his throat, "Uh..Eun wanted to know."

Y/N chuckled at his terrible attempt to hide his own curiosity and said, "Well good thing that she doesn't hate me I guess. Yes, I am...going home for a week."

He nodded his head and they awkwardly stared at each other. Y/N decided to break the silence and said, "See you later. Bye!"

She entered the lift and pushed the button of her floor. As the door started closing, she looked at him walking out of the building. A tiny blush covered her face and she grumbled to herself, feeling irritated at her heart which always skipped a beat whenever she came across that face, "Fuck, I have important things to focus on."

[ TIME SKIP ]

It was around eight in the evening. Keeping her suitcase on the bed, Y/N checked the things she needed to take before she leaves for the get together. The train is supposed to arrive tomorrow at 11 A.M. Following the technique that her mother always used before trips, she checked the list of things and it appeared that she missed some of the items - pads and some medicines for emergency. She wasn't the kind to overthink things...maybe a little bit, but better safe than sorry, right? Going by the period tracker, she at least had a week left before she got her next period.

Taking some money with herself, she stepped out of her apartment and heard the blaring noise coming out of Yoon Jisu's room. Smiling, she walked towards the lift and noticed the sign in bright red - out of maintenance. She started walking down the stairs when, hearing a wailing woman on the 4th floor, she stopped momentarily, thinking if she should take a look at it. But, she decided not to interfere and continued walking down.

Yes, it felt different. The lights were flickering and the building felt...empty. As if everyone took some days off at the same time. Y/N slapped her forehead for having these strange thoughts. Her mind was quickly occupied with another issue when she saw the amount of people huddled on the ground floor.

She looked around at the angry group of people, and walked towards the exit only to see the gate closed. She turned towards a woman and asked, "Uh what's going on? Why are the shutters down?"

"That's what we all are trying to know! How dare they lock us in here without a notice!" the woman grumbled and moved forward to talk to some other people. Y/N took out her mobile and was about to call the watchman when she noticed that there was no signal. Now, she finally started to get a bit worried. What was going on? Sure the streets were kind of empty but what happened that the authorities decided to lock them in?

She turned around and was about to go back when she noticed Eunhyuk talking to a girl. Naturally, a smile appeared on her face and she walked towards them. But the conversation that followed between them made her stop by her tracks.

"What's going on?" he asked.

"Did you just come down?" the girl asked.

"Yes."

"Didn't you notice anything strange down the way?"

"Like what?"

"Nevermind," the girl turned ready to go when Eunhyuk stopped her.

"I asked what's going on," he said.

"We're trying to find out. The back doors and the parking lot doors are locked as well."

"Are you saying someone locked us in?"

"Someone might've locked us in."

"Well that's some kind of a stupid prank to play. People have stuffs to do," Y/N muttered looking at a man shouting standing in front of the control room.

Eunhyuk looked at Y/N for sometime and picked up a fire extinguisher, breaking the chains on the control room door. He looked at the man who fell in shock on the ground and asked, "Are you okay?" His eyes raked over his head from where his wig came off, "Your hair."

As soon as he took his leave, Y/N walked in the control room and looked at a girl calling someone on the landline. As soon as she finished her call, she picked up the phone...

Yeah. It was dead too.

She was confused and worried. What happened exactly? This didn't exactly feel like a prank. If someone did, their mobiles should still be working. It's not like someone messed up a whole tower over a prank. Something big was going on...something strange. The girl and the uncle from earlier were fighting about something. Unable to take the irritating voice of the man anymore, she walked out. As she was wondering if she should just go back to her room. One guy suddenly came out and said, "All right we are ready now. We found the switch. The shutters will go up."

They waited near the exit, as the shutters were slowly going up. And that's when they noticed.

A guy was standing staring at them from outside. But that was nearly not as strange as how...tall he was. Y/N felt a shiver run down her spine. This felt wrong. There was something ominous about the guy. He wasn't....normal.

"Is that...blood on his mouth," one of them said.

"Put it back down."

As if someone woke her up from a nightmare, Y/N stared at Eunhyuk standing beside her whose eyes spoke the exact words she has been thinking.

They were in danger.

She slowly started stepping back, when the guy - correction, monster opened its mouth and its tongue, which was abnormally long and strong enough, began to hit and crack the glass door. With another hit, he broke the glass and stepped in. Immediately catching a man with it's tongue, it began to drink his blood.

Y/N stopped walking from shock and stared at the scene before her as the noises around her began fading out. Her breathing fastened and she realized that she was shaking. She looked down at the man the monster dropped and then her eyes went towards a woman who was crawling towards her. Gulping, she took shaky steps towards her and began pulling her away from the monster slowly - eyes still fixed on the tongue monster.

Fwoosh!

"Mister!"

Eunhyuk's voice came through and broke her from the trance she was in. He was moving towards the monster and using the fire extinguisher to push him out. The man he was talking to ran inside the control room.

"Mister! When I signal you, lower the shutters!" he said pushing the monster further away. As soon as it was near the gate he yelled, "Now! Lower it!"

But...the man was late.

The fire extinguisher ran out of gas but the monster was still inside. Eunhyuk stared at it wide-eyed and as it was about to attack him, a body moved and threw him out of the door.

It was the same girl he was talking to. The... firefighter, Seo Yi as Y/N recalled.

"Fuck." Y/N muttered.

Eunhyuk was holding the shutters up.

"Move Y/N," she said to herself.

The firefighter ran towards the gate but the monster used it's tongue and managed to land a hit on her leg.

"Move," Y/N spoke again.

Eunhyuk was telling the girl to move faster, as he was trying his best to hold the shutter up.

"MOVE!" Y/N shouted and ran towards the exit. Sliding down the shutters, she pulled the girl in using all of her strength. As soon as they dropped on the floor inside the building, the shutters came down followed by the tongue that still managed to come through the gaps. Thankfully, it didn't reach any of them.

Y/N stared at the tongue that struggled to get a hold of any of them, and then slid back out after sometime. Finally, Eunhyuk and Seo Yi started gasping for air.

Seo Yi looked at the girl that pulled her in and then turned towards Eunhyuk, asking "What was that?"

"It...wasn't human," he replied. Eunhyuk looked at Y/N still staring outside, trying to get a sight of the monster and said, "You're...shivering."

"Huh," she gasped and looked at him, eyes welling up with tears. He helped Seo Yi up and then looked at Y/N, still staring at him doe-eyed. Sighing, he crouched down and put his hand forward.

Y/N looked at his hand and slowly grasped it, getting up.

The people of the building finally came out. The man who put the shutters down started shouting at Seo Yi, asking for an explanation for what the government was up to. Everyone had a fair idea of the girl being a fire-fighter.

"We're paying so much tax. Can't they even take care of one monster?" he shouted.

"It's not just one," Eunhyuk said, his eyes remaining fixed outside the building much like Y/N's.

Her tears finally seemed to spill out as she looked at the endless amount of monsters roaming around in the streets. She clutched her hands tight, unaware of the boy doing the same as they stared out the door.

This wasn't the get together she expected. Not at all.
