Chapter 4: I Want To Be Friends

The following day.

"This society is insane, and that includes you... I can't believe you got too excited and swallowed those pills" On the other side, Han Yufan's timorous voice debuted from the earbuds. A small smile crossed his face, but such lenity was very certainly short-lived.

Wei Yuze snickered "Excited? I wouldn't call my feelings that it was more significant to impatience. I can't wait to see her"

The chime of the toasting machine took him off guard. He urged Han Yufan to hold on while he went towards the apparatus and fished the pieces of bread out. After that, he used that opportunity to make himself a cup of tea.

"No working hours on the weekends, why do I hear that pestering buzz of the printer? When did you buy one?" Wei Yuze interrogated and chugged the cup of tea, leisurely.

Living alone had its advantages and disadvantages, but he enjoyed his present lifestyle, most importantly, when he was far long away from the pollution of his family's henpeck

A deep exhale emerged from Han Yufan's lips, as he cried knackered "You of all people have no authority to ask me such a question... Why do you think I'd be wasting my weekends copying files? I am jam-packed with lots of work you failed to give attention to... I mean who's the boss here? You or me? Gosh, you are driving me crazy... Mr. Wei"

Wei Yuze grinned bashfully and muttered with pride "That's exactly the perks of owning an understandable assistant, you see" He shrugged, chugged down the rest of the tea, and continued blabbering "You are lucky for being my friend, you get to enjoy all of these rights" He sounded pleased or rather egoistic, however, Han Yufan was not having it.

He yelled" I have been thinking...you know, to step down from being an assistant and mind my own business since I have become a possession to own"

Wei Yuze ran a hand through his wet silky hair and made sure he didn't erupt in laughter "Oh, come on man... I was only kidding, but I am proud that my only best friend is compassionate"

"Fuck! Get out of here" Han Yufan didn't give a moment to Wei Yuze, before he hung up, leaving the latter astonished.

Surprised at his friend's funny attitude, Wei Yuze put the used cup into the sink and washed it. After a while, he began detouring around the kitchen, darting his eyes almost everyplace as if he lost a valuable item, only to find the missing phone by the side of the coffee maker.

After his breakfast, he sauntered back to his room, walked towards his closet, and rummaged over for a casual outfit. In the end, he wore a white polo and brown fitted trouser. Although last night was heavily exhausting, right there, he was feeling energized.

A beat after he left his apartment, Chun Hua and her daughter exited the neighboring one. She turned her hair into a messy bun and put on a matching skirt and blazer, laced with winter boots, since it was getting to the winter season, while her daughter was wearing a Barbie sweater and a short pleated shirt, with a pair of boots as well. The Little girl also had a bag wrapped over her arms at the back.

"Mianmian, mummy has booked a cab to take us to our destination"

She held her daughter's hand and walked towards the elevator. When they reached there, they saw that the elevator was about to be closed, out of a hurry, Chun Hua without seeing the face of whoever was in there quickly yelled "Please wait"

Wei Yuze's finger froze on the last floor's button when he heard that familiar voice. He tried to look at the small space left before the elevator would close completely but saw no one.

Confused, he mumbled "Now, I am imagining you everywhere"

Outside the building, Chun Hua was busy adjusting her daughter's ponytail hair, when the little girl spoke "Mianmian loves picnics but Mianmian loves mama more" she beamed.

A kink of affection abruptly abutted Chun Hua's sore spot. She trifle a sniff as tears nearly escaped her eyes. She smiled "You tend to speak cheesy words a lot nowadays...who taught you to say all of these?"

Mo Mian innocently gazed at her mother and confessed "Papa taught me"

Chun Hua blinked.

Mo Tiling?

....

At the park.

"Baby, sit here and don't move while mama goes there" she points towards the area buzzing with people "Let's buy a few Chinese snacks ok"

Mo Mian nodded.

Chun Hua immediately left, so that she'd return. A minute after, a young child approached Mo Mian.

"Hello"

Mo Mian, who was sitting like her mother instructed, raised her head to the person.

"Hello", She replied "Who are you?"

The young boy sheepishly smiled and scratched the back of his hair "My mummy left to buy some snacks and I assume it's the same for you"

Mo Mian became skeptical about the boy, so she soon looked away from him and prayed her mother would be back.

"You don't have to be uncomfortable around me, I won't bite...I just want to make friends" He finally spoke of his intentions. His blue eyes were exacerbated when she suddenly shooed him away.

"Oh come on!" he grunted.

"I... I...don't... W.. Want to be f...friends" She harrumphed, stood on her feet, and ran away.

"You!!! You'll get lost" The young boy exclaimed, looking in the direction his mother had gone, but he still ran after the young girl.

Some minutes later, Chun Hua returned with snacks but saw their opening empty. Mo Mian was gone.

At the same time, a beautiful woman screeched "My son has disappeared"
