Preparations [1]

[Whacha doing?]

Kat was doing small talks to relieve the boredom. Without access to the central network connecting her to the internet, and with the brief calm that they had, she figured it was the best time to make conversations...with the least talkative person in the academy.

"Carving out javelins."

Dean was seen telekinetically carving javelins out of broken pieces of table legs and other useless wooden furniture that was found on this floor. He was out front of the 4th year building keeping watch for any intruders.

After the meeting, Dean set various tasks for each members that fit their skill sets, and they all agreed with some questions here and there. They even agree to Dean's offensive plan since Kat found out she can...

[Just because I can flick the outside to daytime, doesn't mean we should go charging in guns blazing right Dean?]

Indeed, Kat found out she can shift the artificial sky in Pleasantville, right outside the 4th year building, back to daytime which shouldn't be possible where they were at. Usually the artificial sky automatically changes based on the time of day, but with the academy in shutdown, the only way to manually change the day cycle was at a control center right in the middle of Pleasantville. So it was...

[It's obviously a trap. Rae may have held back fighting me, but I don't think she could hide something this big from Ha-eun.]

"I know it's a trap."

[Okay Dean, what's your big brain countermove?]

"There is none, giving us visibility would alert Ha-eun while decreasing our morale when we see what we're up against. But visibility is something we need, we can't keep fighting in the darkness when those things can see in the dark."

[So we're expecting a big army husks and fiends?]

"That and whatever is up there."

Dean pointed up at the artificial night sky with a full moon and dozens of stars spread throughout. Kat looked up and was confused for a split second but instantly knew what he was talking about.

[What...could be up there?]

Kat was a little frightened as there were only dozens of stars.

There should be hundreds of stars scattered across the night sky, and if she looked closely Kat could see silhouettes of unknown creatures covering up where the stars should be.

"I'm not sure myself, but I can only guess they'll be similar to the husks but flying. So how's the progress on 'their' little project?"

The people he was referring to were Bob and Mary, both were tasked to create mobile turrets out of the two remaining sentry turrets that were left. Dean personally ripped those two turrets down from the ceiling along with the ammo including the remaining ones from the destroyed sentries.

[They're making good progress, so far Mary has been a great helping hand to Bob.]

"I see."

Dean continued making more javelins while Kat was observing him, with full control of the ground floor, she could check on the progress of the entire group through security cameras though Freddie and Mercury was a little tricky as they were tasked to seal the vents and elevators in case of stragglers from the upper floors.

[Aren't you going to warn them of a new possible enemy?]

"Eventually"

There was a brief pause as Kat shook her head then she noticed something unusual with Dean.

[Say...what're you doing with your other hand?]

Dean was using his right hand to concentrate on his carving task while the other was point away waving at the air.

"Hm? I thought you knew since you watch me 24/7"

[Don't phrase it like that. And I didn't want to assume because you're still B+ in your power level.]

"Well you guess it correctly then. I'm feeling the molecules to try to weaponize them into more efficient tools for the upcoming battle."

[You know normal telekinesis users usually have a better grasp from at least A- power level?]

"Doesn't stop me from trying though."

His nonchalant attitude was....something else in Kat's eyes, as controlling molecules telekinetically was something telekinesis users can do but extremely difficult. Thus the usual requirement was at least A- power level where telekinesis users have a better grasp on their powers to the point they can feel the molecules better.

What Dean is doing, is brute forcing his way to controlling molecules which is usually taxing on the mind especially during combat unless his power level was at least A-.

Why would he waste his time doing this?

From Dean's research on telekinetic users and physics in general, he found out the various applications to controlling molecules such as producing concussive blasts, invisible shields, and many more.

But sadly, things such as flying or destroying living beings molecularly were not possible for Dean as he still couldn't figure out why he can't influence living beings. Instead, he could create invisible walls out of molecules in his surroundings.

This was the main reason why he started practicing again, to keep Ha-eun boxed in with him when he fights her again....if he gets the chance again. Dean then looked up at the artificial night sky where the unknown creatures were possibly slumbering.

[If I remember correctly, you started practicing this since February I believe? Yes February. Did you start practicing because you started feeling the molecules or...?]

"..."

[Dean?]

"The reason was stupid."

Kat's curiosity was piqued to the max hearing Dean admit that.

[TELL.ME.NOW]

Kat had sparkles in her big pink eyes.

Dean had nothing in his piercing blue eyes.

[Fine...I'll just tell Melanie that you've been thinking about her, actually I'll just say you've been missing her heh.]

There was no response from Dean.

Kat waited for Dean to respond as he still continued carving more javelins and practicing feeling the molecules.

She waited.

And waited.

Until...

"What makes you think they're alive?"

He was referring to Melanie and Jen.

While Dean cheered her up a while ago, it was her turn to cheer him up now. She noticed how Dean twitched his eye a little when Bob and the two young men mentioned seeing Melanie at or near the pre-graduation party when recounting any unusual things that happened last night. So, Kat knew that Dean was troubled inside and was probably thinking the worst had happened.

[Just a hunch. Melanie hates parties...well parties that involves alcohol according to Jen so she definitely didn't stay at the party too long. She might've wandered somewhere else in the academy or...one of the small forests around Pleasantville.]

Kat finished speaking as she looked off into the distance, but not at the vaguely lit up buildings of Pleasantville, instead she looked at the dark silhouettes of trees clustered into groups, the various small forests in the distance.

She didn't want to give false hope to Dean, but she needed...no wanted to help him like how he helped her.

And he already suffered enough losses.

There was a brief moment of silence after then...

"First place. I started practicing because I wanted to be first place instead of Mark for a change."

Kat smiled at Dean's response.

If only she knew Dean's other reason was because he wanted to impress a certain someone.
