When Avery opened the door to Jane’s apartment, Jane was already on the couch with her favorite mug. She knew that when Avery saw her this way, she was demanding details about the date. Avery chuckled upon seeing her friend.
“So?”
Avery sat across her friend, “What do you mean?”
Jane watched as her friend removed her heels and relaxed on the couch. “As far as I can remember, Ran doesn’t have a Ferrari and he doesn’t drive.”
“I’m not going to meet that crazy pervert ever again.” Jane raised her eyebrow, “So… the Ferrari….”
Avery rolled her eyes. If Jane knew that she was not with an old rich guy, she would tease her to death. She stood up, “I’m tired, babe. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.” Jane immediately jumped in front of her friend, surprising Avery. “Who is he?? Why aren’t you telling me?”
Avery smiled and held her friend’s shoulders. “It’s nobody. You need to chill. I need to rest and find another target tomorrow.”
What most people didn’t know was that Avery chooses her targets carefully. She didn’t just go for an old rich man. She checked carefully if his marriage was intact if necessary. She also researched if there was a possibility that the rich man would be interested in a young woman like her. She would consider the personality of the target. If it was like Ran, he won’t stand a chance.
The following morning, Avery went to the living room and saw Jane doing household chores. When they graduated, the two girls promised each other that they would still have sleepovers during weekends. Avery sat in front of the dining table and prepared her coffee.
“So, when are you planning to tell me who it is?”
Avery was about to change the topic when a certain commercial played on the TV. She paused seeing that it was the guy from yesterday, Mr. Lee. Jane noticed the look on her friend’s face and turned to the direction.
“It’s him.”
Jane’s eyes widen, “Him? You mean Carson Lee?! Are you freaking serious?”
Avery nodded. Jane rushed to her friend, “You just bashed him the other day! Why are you with him?”
Avery turned back to her coffee. She wasn’t sure if she could tell everything to Jane, she didn’t want the other to worry about her.
“It’s a long story but we kept meeting” Avery watched as Jane’s expression changed from curious to excited. Jane instantly held Avery’s hands, “Please date him.”
Avery moved away with a disgust expression on her face. “No. He’s not qualified.”
Jane frowned, “Why not? He is rich. His dad will retire soon and all the riches will go to him.” Avery raised an eyebrow, “He isn’t old.”
Jane facepalmed. “Oh come on, Ave. Stop giving me excuses. He took you home so that means he is interested in you. He is basically the youngest billionaire in the city. He is the perfect target.”
Avery held her lip, she did this whenever she was thinking. She then remembered the incident the other day. “He isn’t. I tried my charms on him and he declined me.”
Jane smirked. Carson might be the only hope for Avery. If she fell in love with this young billionaire, she actually has a chance to be happy. “Remember our deal?”
The blonde stopped drinking her coffee to look at her friend. “What deal?” Jane moved closer to her friend. She had this weird and scary smile on her face.
“That I will leave my boyfriend if you date someone who is the same age as we are.”
Avery smirked. She then turned to the TV and saw Carson talking about their new brand of technology. She then remembered what happened last night and if she won’t consider his age, he was a good target. She turned back to Jane who was anticipating an answer.
She did want Jane to leave her good-for-nothing boyfriend. But she can’t afford not to get what she wanted. If Carson rejected her, what would she do?
“Come on, Ave. I promise to date a nice guy. Those intellectual guys you like for me.”
Avery placed her mug on the sink and turned to Jane. “Fine. You better find a nice guy or I’ll kill you.”
Jane happily hugged her friend. “Finally! I have been waiting for this moment. I hope you fell for him.” The statement made Avery laugh, “As if.”
Jane looked at her friend as she released the hug. “Carson is a nice guy. He helped a lot of people and even donated to charity. I’m sure he is the perfect guy for you.”
Avery looked at Carson’s profile on her laptop. She needed to make the perfect strategy to capture his heart. A strategy that was different from her previous partners. Usually, she would just seduce them with her brains and body.
But Carson seemed to be different. He didn’t look at her like those men did. He protected her even if he said he was not interested. His intentions were hard to read. She laid in bed. There was only one way she could read him well.
The following morning, Avery went to the same restaurant where she met Carson for the second time. According to her research, he ate there every day for breakfast. One of Avery’s plans was to make everything seem like a “coincidence”.
She was waiting for him patiently while wearing a simple yellow dress. 30 minutes later, he entered the restaurant. Avery smirked, her plan was going to work. She waited for him to order and sat exactly where he did last time which was beside her.
“Oh. It’s you again!”
He turned to her in surprise. “OH! Avery. Good morning. What brings you here?”
She smiled. Avery believed that her smile was her best asset so she usually smiled more with her targets. “Just having breakfast. Do you mind if I eat with you? It’s kind of lonely to eat alone.”
He smiled and nodded. He even helped her move her things. Indeed, Carson amazed her with everything he did. “So, what’s your plan today? Want to go somewhere?”
