"How can you say that? This ring is priceless; it’s a symbol of our love." Amber stated, glaring at him.
"There is no such thing as love. Just because he is engaged to you doesn’t mean he is going to get married to you." Daniel said, and fired the engine, driving off at great speed.
"Dad, please, I want to go see him." Amber pleaded shaking Mr. Darlington’s hand.
"He doesn’t want to see you. His parents are taking care of him." Mr. Darlington replied.
"But he needs me there with him. I am his fiancée." Amber whimpered.
"You are the only one that cares about the fiancée thing, his parents don’t care. If they did, they wouldn’t have arrested you in the first place." Mr. Darlington said.
"Maybe Daniel is right. You should sell that ring, because you will never get to see him again, now that we are moving out of this society." Mr. Darlington added. Amber was heart broken She let go of his hand and turned to the window. With tears dripping down her brown skin, she promised herself she wouldn’t cry, but the pain was too much to bear and the thought of losing Mason haunted her.
Minutes later.
Daniel pulled up in front of their house and stepped out of the car, slamming the door. Mr. Darlington also stepped out of the car, but Amber refused to get out of the car.
Daniel opened the door of the car. "Come out, sis, you have to forget about him and move on," Daniel said, extending his hand to her.
Amber stared at his hand and looked at the steering wheel. She grabbed the door of the car and locked it from the inside. She shut the other door and crossed to the front seat of the car. She opened the glove compartment and took out the car keys. She shoved them into the keyhole and twisted them. She didn’t know how to drive, but she had seen Daniel driving several times and decided to give it a try.
Daniel and Mr. Darlington started banging on the windows of the car.
"Open up, Amber, what are you doing?" Daniel inquired, hitting the glass of the car.
"You don’t want to drive me? I will drive myself." Amber said and stepped on the gas.
"Stop this madness, honey. I don’t want to lose you. You don’t know how to drive." Mr. Darlington whimpered. Amber wasn’t hearing what they were saying, but she tried her best and managed to get the car to move. She started driving unsteady on the road, hitting all the cars that came her way. Her head was spinning, but she didn’t want to give up.
"I need to go this way," Amber muttered to herself, struggling to get the car to go her way. The steering wheel was too hard to move, and her head was spinning.
"Your sister is really serious about that boy; do something, son." Mr. Darlington said, looking at Daniel, who was already stealing a motorcycle from their neighbor's front porch. He got into the bike and speed up driving after Amber.
"I can’t believe that a white boy is making her risk her life." Daniel said, and saw that Amber was heading toward a huge truck that was heading her way.
"Shit!" he exclaimed and accelerated the bike using all the speed he had got. Since it was illegal to drive at that speed, he caught up to his car and started banging on the window, but Amber ignored him. He stopped banging on her glass and halted to look for something to smash the glass with.
"Aaaaah!!" Amber screamed at the top of her lungs as she saw the truck heading toward her. She was having an adrenaline rush as he drove toward her. She was spinning the steering wheel the other way out of fear when the truck drove past her and hit her car a little. Amber lost control of the steering wheel and her car crashed into another car, and stopped damaging the headlights of the car.
The air balloon popped out of the steering wheel and protected her head, Amber’s face landed on the balloon and she passed out.
Daniel cut up to her and saw her in the car. He started banging the glass trying to open the door.
"Open up, Amber. Can you hear me?" He asked, but she was lying unconscious. He ran his hand through his hair.
"Can you hear me!" He screamed and picked up a huge stone from the ground and used it to smash the glass open. He put his hand in the car and opened it from the inside. He quickly carried her out of the car, blowing off the glass particles that were in her face. As he held her in his arms, she was still breathing. He sighed in relief and shut the door of his car with his leg and started walking down the street with Amber in his arms.
He saw his parents and Bella on the front porch. They were all standing together, looking worried. Mr. Darlington ran to him.
"How is she? Is she alright?" he inquired.
"She is just unconscious," Daniel replied and carried her into the house, where he dropped her on her bed. Bella gasped and held Amber’s hand which was bleeding.
"She has an injury." Bella said.
"Get the first aid kit." Daniel told her, and she scurried away.
"What is wrong with Amber? Why did she want to drive when she couldn’t?" Mrs. Darlington asked.
"She was furious that we didn’t want her to go and see Mason at the hospital, and she went crazy and tired driving my car. I am happy she didn’t get hurt." Daniel said, through clenched teeth. Mrs. Darlington sat next to Amber on the bed, stroking her hair. Daniel leaned closer to Amber and took the ring from her ring finger.
"What are you going to do with that son?" Mr. Darlington asked.
"Don’t worry dad, I am not gonna sell it. I will just keep it away from her." Daniel said.
"That looks like an expensive ring. How did she get it?" Mrs. Darlington inquired.
"She is engaged to Mason. He gave that to her." Daniel replied.
"Wow, he is really serious about her." Mrs. Darlington said, putting her hand in her face.
"Don’t get too happy. Their relationship is over, since they arrested her for attempted murder." Daniel said.
"Huh, who is that person?" Mrs. Darlington asked.
"It’s Mason, he got shot. He is at the hospital. Didn’t Bella tell you?" Daniel inquired.
"She did. It must have slipped my mind." Mrs. Darlington said. Bella ran into the room and handed Mrs. Darlington the first aid kit. She started wiping the blood in Amber’s hand with a cotton wool.
At the hospital.
Mrs. Kings and Cassie walked over to the doctor, who was in charge of Mason’s treatment.
"Doctor, how is my son?" Mrs. Kings asked, holding the arm of the doctor that was trying to go.
"He is not doing well. He has lost a lot of blood. He needs blood urgently. We are trying to look for a donor for him before he dies." the doctor said.
"A donor? Didn’t you see his father?" Mrs. Kings inquired.
"I saw him. He said he was too busy to give blood to his son." The doctor snarled.
"How could he say that?" Mrs. Kings said, gnashing her teeth and walking away to call her husband.
"Wait doctor." Cassie said, looking at the doctor, who paused and turned to look at her.
"What is his blood group?" she inquired.
"O negative, do you have that kind of blood?" the doctor asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No, I don’t have it. Can I see him?" Cassie asked.
"Who are you supposed to be?" the doctor asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I am his best friend," Cassie said.
"If you want him to have a great chance of surviving, look for a girl named Amber and bring her here." the doctor said and walked away without uttering a word.
"Amber? Why does he need Amber? I am here for him." Cassie muttered to herself when her phone started ringing. She reluctantly picked up the call.
"Hello babe, when are you coming back to England?" The person on the phone asked.
"I will be coming back soon, but right now, my friend is sick," she stated.
"You told me you were going to stay there for a week. I miss you a lot already." he said.
"Don’t worry, honey, my job here is almost done," she said, blowing kisses at him before hanging up on him.
Cassie walked over to Mrs. kings who was scolding her husband over the phone.
"Get your old ass here or I am going to divorce you!" Mrs. Kings screamed.
"I am busy sugar. I have a new investor at work today. I couldn’t neglect them." he replied.
"You couldn’t neglect them? Mason is our only child. I thought you cared about him." Mrs. Kings stated.
"I do care about him. I have talked to the doctor. He will look for a donor," he said.
"I just talked to him, he hasn’t find a donor yet, just tell her investors that your son needs your help, if you don’t come to Mason now, he might hate you for the rest of his life, when he wakes up." Mrs. Kings said.
"Wait a minute." Mr. Kings said and stared at the people that were staring at him in the conference room.
"Is anyone’s blood group O negative?" he inquired. They all stared at him, stunned, and shook their heads. He stared at his secretary, and asked her to go ask all the employees who had O negative blood and send them to him. She bowed slightly and walked away.
"You think that will work? Do you think she will find a donor?" Mrs. Kings asked.
"Anyone will be ready to donate if they hear about the money I am going to give them." Mr. Kings declared and hung up.
Mrs. Kings turned to look at Cassie and sighed.
"Do you know anyone with Mason’s blood group? I can’t trust my husband to look for someone." Mrs. Kings asked.
"I don’t know," she replied, flatly, making eye contact with Mrs. Kings.
"Is there something you want to tell me?" Mrs. Kings inquired.
"Yes, the doctor asked me to call Amber to the hospital. I didn’t know what he meant by that." Cassie said.
"How did he even know her name? Or is Mason awake? Let's go check it out." Mrs. Kings said she was walking down the hallway with Cassie when she sighted Xavier coming from the other end of the hallway, his right hand bandaged to his neck and his dad supporting him at the side. Xavier sighted her and frowned, looking at her with those eyes that could kill.
Cassie walked over to Xavier and stood in front of him.
"Who are you?" Xavier’s father asked, staring at her.
"I am his friend. We attend the same university." Cassie said with a smile.
"I am not your friend!" Xavier yelled. Cassie smiled nervously.
"He doesn’t know what he is saying. We fight a lot." She scoffed and stood beside him, walking with them.
"You see, Mason is in the hospital fighting for his life, and I was wondering if you have the same blood group as him." Cassie said. Xavier turned deaf ears.
"What was his blood group?" Xavier’s father asked.
"Don’t talk to her dad." Xavier stated rudely.
"O negative," Cassie stated unequivocally. Xavier and his dad halted and stared at her, with their eyes wide in astonishment.
"Wow, what a coincidence. That’s my son’s blood group." Xavier’s father said.
"Really?" Cassie asked as Mrs. kings ran over to them.
"Yes," his father replied.
"Xavier can you give Mason some of your blood? I know you guys aren’t best of friends, but he needs blood right now." Cassie said, with her eyebrows lowered and pulled together.
"You can get a donor to give him blood, but I am not going to, because I hate him and it’s because of him that I am injured. I am too weak to give my blood to somebody. I need to heal myself." Xavier said, pulling his dad by the hand as they walked away.
"What is wrong with you, son? By the look on their faces, they really need your help." his father said.
"I can’t help them. Why don’t you ditch me and go help them?" Xavier said coldly.
"Alright, let’s go." His father half shrugged as they walked away.
A nurse started walking in the hallway at great speed with a blood bag in her hand. Cassie stopped her.
"Who is that blood for?" Cassie inquired. The nurse glared at her and replied. "It’s for Mr. Mason we had to send for blood in our second branch." The nurse said she attempted to walk past them when she tripped on Mrs. Kings feet and fell on the floor, spilling the blood on their bodies.
Mrs. Kings wiped the blood off her face.
"What is wrong with you? You just wasted a bag of blood!" Mrs. Kings ranted.
"Oh no, what are they going to treat Mason with now?" Cassie said, wiping the blood off her lip.
"You are so clumsy, get up!" Mrs. Kings said, kicking the nurse who got up from her feet and pointed her index finger at her.
"You caused this. You are the reason I dropped the blood. Only God knows where we are going to get another blood for your son. You are going to pay for the loss." The nurse stated.
"I am not going to pay you are." Mrs. kings snarled.
"You will have to tell that to the financial department when they look at the CCTV footage of you making me fall." the nurse said and walked away grunting like an animal.
"I am going home." Cassie said, looking at her dress, which was stained with blood in disgust.
"Take your time. I will keep looking for a donor for my son." Mrs. Kings said walking down the hallway, she asked a nurse for the bathroom, and they led her there and gave her patients pajamas to wear.
Mr. Kings managed to find a donor for Mason and sent him to the hospital in his car, promising to give him a huge sum of money.
Amber rolled in the bed and opened her eyes. She stared at her hand that was bandaged and held her head in pain. The memory of what she did came back to her. She sat up on the bed and sighed.
"How are you doing, my love?" She muttered to herself and got down from the bed. She walked into the bathroom and switched on the tap, looking at her pale face in the mirror. She wanted to put her hand in the water when Bella dashed into the bathroom and held her hand.
"You can’t put that hand in the water." Bella said.
