Chapter 37

Wandering through town, picking up a few bits and pieces on her lunch hour, Abby passed the café. A glance through the window revealed Nina and Rory sat having a bite to eat. They were smiling and chatting as if nothing was wrong. All of her efforts and there they were relaxed and happy.

Staring through the window, studying their body language, Abby could find no hint of tension. The only stress was hers. Then, she had been spotted and Rory, always so affable, had raised his hand to wave at her. When he stopped halfway, she had realised how odd it must look and had hurried away.

Nina and Rory must have noticed her expression. It wasn't until they focused on her that she realised that her face was set in a scowl. Abby had turned away and then after a few paces, practically ran all the way back to her car. What trouble had she caused by letting them see her anger?
