As Riley sat in the corner of the tavern, nursing the last dregs of a bitter drink, the door creaked open, letting in a gust of cold wind and two uniformed officers. He sighed, slouching further into his chair, hoping they weren't here for him.
They made their way through the tables, the heavy boots of authority announcing their presence with every step. One of them—a middle-aged man with a rough beard and weary eyes—stopped in front of Riley.
"Detective Lucas," the officer said, his voice gruff but oddly casual. Riley didn't bother looking up, swirling the amber liquid in his glass instead."Congratulations. The case you agreed to take up? The missing child. It's been settled." he said, not raising his voice.
Riley blinked, faking being surprised. "That case?"
'Why is the police having to inform me in a bar? can't they send a letter to my address?' Riley thought
