Survival Day

"Log 009, day 4. 6th of May 2027, Its been a few days since the people from my home town became flesh eating monsters. Please if someone is out there, please send help. I don't know much time I have and I don't care who it is to come rescue me. The army, the navy, the government, just please send rescuers that can save me. I'll send you my coordinates for you to come rescue me, please help."

"No food and water, no medical kits for us to use and there's only a few more bullets in my gun." is what Souta's thinking, how could he protect his own daughter if he can't do anything? Soon they'll have to stop for supplies, however he's afraid to even go out of the car or leave her inside the car. He looked around as they traveled and find that not a single soul to be found in the area. Zashu, one the most under populated area in the country at least in some areas are safe, thinking that they might find supplies in the nearby shops and stores. He looked at Miku through the mirror and all he could see in his daughter's eyes was the horror she had to experienced, knowing the fact that she killed her own mother.

"Miku? You alright, sweetie?"

"..."

The long silence coming from his daughter made him question himself "Am I a good father?" he hoped that she'd understand that, it was necessary for her to do such a thing. But what can he do? it was too painful even for himself to understand of what happened. Later on the car stopped, it was out of gas. They had to get and find something.

"Dammit! We're out of gas. We have to find some gas and supplies."

"Dad?... Do you think that I'd go up into the heavens after of what I've done?"

"Miku..."

"SCEEEEEEEEEECH!!!"

"Shhhh... Something's nearby, we gotta go."

They found a nearby convenient store and hid inside, hoping that nothing or no one is occupying the facility. Not long, everything went silent, everything was safe, Souta started gathering food and a few medical supplies for them to use, luckily the store wasn't empty so there was a lot goods for them to take. They still lack weapons to use for protection, he searched up and down and found empty handed. It's almost dark, they have to leave soon or they'd be in danger but, how could they leave? They still needed gas, they had to stay for the night and look for a gas station in the morning.

They stayed in the storage room in the store however, they couldn't get any sleep, after all that's been happening outside. At any moment someone or something might come inside and kill them in their sleep so they had to stay alerted.

"Miku... You need sleep."

"I'm scared... Every time I close my eyes I see mom..."

"It's alright sweetie, I'm here. I'll protect you. Now go to bed I'll tell you a bed time story, that always helps you sleep, right?"

"I guess so..."

As the nightly hours passed by Miku finally fell asleep in her father's arms, while he stays up to keep an eye look out. A few hours has passed, Souta fell as sleep when suddenly a man's voice coming from outside the room asking for help, Miku woke up and got scared.

"Hello? Is anyone there? Please open the door!"

"Dad....."

"Don't worry sweetie, stay here. I'll go check. Go back to bed."

"Is anyone in there? Please open the door. Let me in!"

"Are you bitten? If you are, I can't let you."

"Sir, I can assure you that I'm not. Open the door and look at my eyes! See if they're glowing purple!"

He opened the door and looked at the man's eyes. He was right. It wasn't, so he trusted him. The man had a gentle voice seemed to be a lumberjack, he was carrying a shotgun, an axe, and a small bag, the man questioned;

"So? Where did you guys came from?"

"We're from Aeris."

"That's quite far from here."

"We had to get out of that place, it was crawling with those things. Every since those meteorites crashed to earth every one started yearning human flesh and started chaos all over the country."

"Yeah, phones and televisions aren't working too. But I'm sure someone out there are forming some kind of groups to fight off those things, right?"

"I hope so."

They talked through the night and getting to know each other. The man's name was Koharu, Hideki. He told his story of how he grew up from his home town and worked over seas until he decided to stay here and settled down with his family. Until when it all happened, he lost his wife and son when a meteor crashed on their house then this purple mist dissolving from the meteor turning a few people including his wife and son into glowing purple eyed monsters. It was tough for him to see them suffer but he didn't want to die yet so, he decided to flee and look for someone who might've survived the incident and wait for someone to work on a cure.

"We were actually going to see a colleague of mine to do a research on these creatures. He lives in Novis. It's a long journey, I don't even know if we'll even survive this. But I can't give up."

"We'll get through this."

They decided to team up and get to Novis, but first they needed gas and a much more faster car to be able to get there. Koharu informed him that there's a big truck nearby a gas station a few buildings away however, there's flock of those monsters near the area. They needed a plan to get pass them.

They woke up at break of dawn, having their plan ready. Koharu looked at Miku's eyes when she woke up and said;

"Is your child infected?"

Souta giggled as he thought that it was a joke and said;

"No. she's born with natural green eyes. It comes from her mother's side of the family."

"Was she foreign?"

"No, they just have different colored eyes. That's all."

They began to their plan to get to the gas station and was in shocked when they saw the numbers of monsters ahead of them, they needed to look for an opening to get in there.

"Over there, an opening. Through the back door."

Feeling anxious about alerting a flock of monsters, they managed to get in the station and grabbed a few gallons of gas. Now the problem is; how are they going to get in the truck without getting spotted? They needed a distraction. Koharu suggested that he'd distract them while they get in the truck.

"That's suicide! I can't let you do that!"

"Don't worry. I'll be careful. Take a turn in the around that building, that way I'll be able to get in the truck."

"And if you get bitten?"

"It'll take a few hours if I get bitten anywhere else other than my neck, by then I'll chop it off when we get away from here. Learned that after losing my other companion."

"Alright."

"I'm counting on you!"

He went off out in the open with a gun got to catch their attention and began their chase. Souta and Miku made it in the truck and starting it up however, the engine is out cold, it had to heat up before taking off.

"Dammit!"

"Dad! One of them are coming towards us!"

"Lock the doors, Miku!"

As the engine started to heated up, Koharu struggled as they chased him until he was out of breath. They were so close in reaching him but he didn't gave up on them, he wielded his axe and bashed their heads off one by one along with his shot gun shooting them to get even farther. On the other hand, Souta struggled as well with the car cause of the monster bashing its head in the window in order for it to break, it wasn't long until it's finally ready to drove off.

"Yes, finally! Miku, fasten up your seatbelt!"

"Okay..."

They took off at full speed, now they have to find Koharu for them to escape together. They drove off the corner of the building and found that the half of the flock was dead, Koharu single handedly fought off the monsters without any hesitations of whether he'd die or not.

*HONK*

*HONK*

"C'MON LETS GET OUT OF HERE!"

He slowly got on the truck and drove away however, that wasn't enough for them to give up that easily. One by one started to run after the truck and jumped off in the back, Koharu was fighting them off when eventually he was bitten in his right arm.

"You bastard! Get off our truck! Mr.Hyakutake, go faster and shake them off!"

"I'm trying!"

They went as fast as they could until eventually they've finally lost them all, they were all exhausted from what they've been through and now they have to find another safe place to hide and rest before night time falls.

Finally, they've escaped the flock and found a hiding place in the woods. A little cabin in the outskirts of Nal-sinhan after driving for hours. Now that Koharu's been bitten, the chances are 50/50 for him to survive.
