Xia Xue's calculated performance earned unanimous approval from the examiners.
Meanwhile, Wang Zihao swung his massive two-handed sword, slicing off the head of the Worf werewolf before him. His face showed a savage grin, his expression growing more arrogant with every kill. He was the very embodiment of a Berserker—fierce, wild, and teetering on the edge of sanity. Though he hadn't fully unleashed his berserk mode yet, when that time came, he would likely lose himself entirely to the chaos of battle.
"I can tell he's giving it everything he's got from the start. But later on, his efficiency will nosedive," one of the examiners remarked.
"His inability to manage his stamina is a glaring weakness. He could learn a lot from Xia Xue's approach," another commented.
The examiners weren't merely looking at how many monsters each candidate defeated. They cared about adaptability, how well a person could sustain a fight over 30 minutes. The real challenge came from maintaining combat strength and endurance, ensuring a professional could last through grueling engagements. For Wang Zihao, going all out at the start would come back to bite him. Compared to Xia Xue, his strategy was lacking.
Like Wang Zihao, Zuo Mei also selected hell difficulty. But her approach couldn't have been more different. As a Stalker, she was swift and deadly, weaving through the battlefield like a ghost, playing the Worf werewolves like marionettes. Every step was precise; every attack, lethal. She conserved her energy by moving efficiently, her daggers flashing out only when she could deal maximum damage. Zuo Mei made no unnecessary movements, an expert at controlling her enemy and disrupting its attacks. Her mastery of her skills impressed the examiners as well.
Several examiners had already formed opinions about each candidate after watching their performance. But then their attention shifted back to Lin Moyu—and they were stunned into silence.
"This... this kid... he's something else," one examiner murmured.
"Did he really just pull out food in the middle of the exam?" another said in disbelief.
Lin Moyu, unbothered by the tension of the competition, calmly munched on a sweet potato he had stashed in his pocket. He had thought ahead, knowing the storage space would be blocked during the exam, and prepared a snack. Now, with nothing else to do as his summoned skeleton warriors effortlessly slaughtered every monster, he leisurely ate his sweet potato.
"Eating during a major exam... This has to be a first!" one examiner said, shaking his head in amusement.
"Record this moment. His name will go down in history for sure."
While the other candidates struggled to keep up, Lin Moyu was breezing through the exam as if it were a joke. His skeleton warriors stood guard at the entrance where monsters appeared, cutting them down the moment they emerged. It was so effortless that the examiners were almost annoyed.
"This is too easy for him," an examiner commented. "Should we increase the difficulty?"
"No, fairness is key. He earned this advantage."
The head examiner, Ning Xuanfeng, had been silent since the exam began. But his eyes gleamed with interest as he watched Lin Moyu. "This kid is something special," he muttered.
As the 30 minutes dragged on, many candidates began to drop out, either due to exhaustion or injury. The relentless combat took its toll on everyone—except Lin Moyu, who looked as relaxed as ever. While others gasped for breath and battled fatigue, his skeletons continued their work without pause.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the monsters vanished as the round concluded.
"Thank goodness it's over," one student gasped, collapsing onto the ground.
"I'm completely spent. I've never been this exhausted, even after running dungeons," another muttered.
Even Xia Xue, who had paced herself well, looked pale. She had carefully managed her mental energy throughout the exam, but now, she was utterly drained. With the storage space blocked, she couldn't use potions to recover and had to rely on sheer willpower to get through it.
"I killed over 200 monsters. That's at least 200 points," she thought, her exhaustion mingling with relief.
Wang Zihao, on the other hand, was sprawled out on the floor. His initial frenzy had cost him dearly. By the end, his strikes had become sluggish, his stamina nearly depleted. "I killed over 50... Hell difficulty really isn't easy."
And then there was Lin Moyu, standing as calmly as he had at the start, untouched by fatigue. His skeletons had done all the work, allowing him to conserve his energy entirely.
The voice of the examiner echoed through the room: "This round is over. Out of 522 candidates, 278 have been eliminated due to injury or withdrawal. The remaining 244 candidates are eligible to continue, but the next exam will be more challenging, with potential life-threatening risks. Choose carefully whether you wish to proceed."
A tense silence filled the room as candidates weighed their options. The stakes were high, and fear of what lay ahead gnawed at many. The examiners exchanged knowing smirks.
"How many do you think will give up this time?" one of them asked.
"Based on previous years, at least one-third will bow out."
Indeed, several candidates hesitated. But then came the final push: "Even if you choose to withdraw now, your performance has guaranteed you a place in higher learning institutions. You have 60 seconds to decide. If no choice is made, you will automatically proceed."
The voice of reason broke down the final barriers. The temptation of safety was too strong for some to resist.
"I quit," one student muttered.
"I can't go on. I'm done," another said, surrendering to the fear.
But others chose to press forward, driven by a desire for greatness. After coming this far, they refused to stop now.
