These past few days, Xuan had been quietly recuperating in his room. Everything was taken care of by the little maid, Chiya Yoko. The little girl was surprisingly diligent, and whenever Xuan gave any instructions, she would do her utmost to carry them out.
Visitors came to check on him, including many Uchiha clan jonin who had never interacted with him before. They would chat casually, praising him for his genius and how he had contributed greatly to the clan, encouraging him to keep up the good work in the future. Xuan found it all tiresome.
The arrival of Uchiha Izuna, however, surprised Xuan, though it was to be expected. The two didn't speak much; Izuna mostly talked about Madara's situation. Though he didn't directly say it, Xuan could tell that Izuna likely wouldn't be a rival for him in the future.
In the conversation, the topic shifted to the casualties in battle. Izuna's face darkened as he mentioned that out of eighty-seven lower-ranked shinobi, forty had died. Aside from himself and Izuna, all of Madara's other brothers had perished.
Uchiha Tajima had returned after receiving the news of the clan's ambush. He immediately led people back, abandoning the frontlines. The two-year-long war between the three clans had temporarily come to an end, with heavy losses for everyone, particularly the Uchiha clan, who were considered to have lost the battle.
The third elder of the Uchiha clan, Uchiha Kage, had been harshly criticized and stripped of his position, becoming an ordinary jonin who had to earn back his reputation.
Before leaving, Izuna casually said, "I will catch up with you and big brother," to which Xuan only smiled, thinking, The boy is still living in a dream.
"Xiao Ying."
"Yes, Lord Xuan?"
"I'm so tired. From now on, reject everyone who comes to visit. Tell them I need to focus on healing."
"Understood."
Finally, Xuan was able to rest. He let out a long sigh, not sure if he was still considered a wounded person. He didn't have the energy to engage in more small talk.
Once quiet, Xuan began reflecting on things. It was always good to analyze situations, especially when lacking enough power.
"If I'm not mistaken, there should have been an ambush like this in the original story. Besides Izuna, everyone from Madara's generation of brothers likely died in this attack, and probably even more will die."
Xuan had always had a question while reading the original story. During the Warring States period, the Uchiha and Senju were considered the two strongest clans, both on equal footing, and had been at odds for centuries. Yet, when Madara became clan leader, the Uchiha began to be slowly suppressed by the Senju, eventually leading to their complete defeat.
No matter how noble the stories of reconciliation were—like how the two clans put aside their differences for the peace of the world and worked together to create the Hidden Leaf Village—it didn't change the fact that the Uchiha were defeated in the original story. The Senju's proposal for alliance was made from a position of victory, which explained why the Uchiha's position in the village would always be beneath the Senju.
It wasn't that the Uchiha weren't fighting back—it was just that they couldn't win.
Xuan initially thought that the reason was because Hashirama, the Senju leader, was simply too powerful. But now, he wasn't so sure. Although Hashirama was the reincarnation of Ashura, the God of Shinobi, Madara wasn't weak either. In fact, every time they fought in the original story, they didn't settle things quickly, often battling for an entire day.
Their high-level combat abilities were nearly equal. The most likely reason for the Uchiha's defeat was that the clan lacked enough strength in the middle ranks, which was exacerbated by this recent attack from the Hyuga clan.
If Xuan wasn't mistaken, this ambush in the original story resulted in the Uchiha's most experienced warriors perishing, creating a gap in the clan's power. This led to the Uchiha clan being at a disadvantage when compared to the Senju, and their eventual defeat wasn't all that surprising.
"With this in mind, my presence here yesterday helped the Uchiha retain some of its younger generation's strength. To think that they only sent me a little maid—aren't they being a little stingy?"
Xuan's thoughts wandered aimlessly as he lay still. Since he couldn't move around, he decided to pass the time thinking.
"Oh right, I think I killed some of their jonin and completed my mission. I should check my points."
Opening his system interface, a variety of exchange items appeared before him. He stared at the Rinnegan, priced at one million points, and swallowed nervously, realizing that it was out of his reach.
He pulled the screen down and noticed his own balance of 10,000 points, which made him feel a little proud—finally, he wasn't part of the impoverished masses.
With 10,000 points, he could afford an S-level jutsu. He scrolled through the list of jutsus, eagerly eyeing them.
"Senjutsu: Fire Style - Five Right Gate, Rank S, requires 10,000 points" "Wind Style: Rasengan Shuriken, Rank S, requires 10,000 points" "Wind Style: Big Rasengan Shuriken, Rank S, requires 10,000 points" "Summoning Technique: Five Heavy Gates, Rank S, requires 10,000 points" "Lightning Style: Raikiri, Rank S, requires 10,000 points"
S-level jutsus flashed across the screen, making Xuan salivate, but unfortunately, his points only covered one, which made his decision difficult.
After thinking for a while, Xuan suddenly recalled a jutsu he wanted. He thought to himself, "System, exchange for Amaterasu."
Amaterasu, a Mangekyo Sharingan jutsu, was an S-level Fire Style jutsu that only Uchiha Itachi and Sasuke could perform in the original story.
Xuan figured that even if he awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan in the future, his chances of obtaining Amaterasu were slim. It would be better to acquire it now. The thought of using the three-tomoe Sharingan to perform Amaterasu made him a little excited.
"Amaterasu, Rank S, requires 10,000 points. Cannot be exchanged. This jutsu requires the Mangekyo Sharingan."
"System, you've got to be kidding me…"
"However, since the user already possesses the Three Tomoe Sharingan, you may spend an additional 5,000 points to forcibly exchange for it. Insufficient points for exchange."
"...Not only is it a scam, but it's downright cruel," Xuan thought bitterly. At least now he knew that the Mangekyo jutsus could be exchanged with an additional fee. That was some kind of progress.
"Based on this theory, the Wind Style Rasengan Shuriken would also be unachievable since I don't have wind affinity…"
Xuan had a single affinity for Fire Style, and couldn't learn jutsus with other elemental properties. He scrolled the system page again, noticing that other elemental jutsus required 2,000 points, and there were options like Sage Mode and Cursed Seal, with Sage Mode priced at 50,000 points.
At first, Xuan thought he had finally escaped poverty, but now he realized he was still a penniless person.
"Forget it, I don't want to think about this anymore. I'll just exchange for an S-level jutsu. I already have Rasengan as an A-level technique, which is enough for attacking, but if I encounter an opponent with faster speed, it will be difficult to land a hit. I need a jutsu to cover this weakness."
Xuan thought carefully, and suddenly his eyes lit up as an idea came to mind. This jutsu was a perfect match with Rasengan, a golden combination. In fact, Rasengan had been created with this jutsu in mind.
"System, exchange for the Flying Thunder God Technique!" Xuan thought with excitement, hoping it could be exchanged.
"Flying Thunder God Technique, Rank S, requires 10,000 points!"
The system's voice echoed calmly, and a warm sensation filled Xuan's body as his 10,000 points were instantly depleted.
Xuan didn't mind at all. He was overjoyed. He finally had a true trump card jutsu. With the Flying Thunder God and Rasengan together, he could already picture the Uchiha's Mysterious Flash, echoing across the Warring States period.
