Why can't you just be....

As Nathan waited by the elevator for Nara, his mind raced with thoughts of what had transpired between them.

Don't get him wrong; he and Nara had been intimate a couple of times before, but after she found out about Rebecca, it had been no touching and separate bedrooms for a while.

This, of course, drove him crazy, but he understood she needed her space, and he never attempted anything since then. But seeing her in that dress drove him insane, and all the steam he had been bottling up was threatening to blow up.

Nara suddenly emerged from the hallway and walked towards where he stood by the elevator. This time she wore a red tight dress that showcased her gorgeous curves.

"I'm not changing this time around, so you better not say a word," she warned as she entered the elevator.

Nathan said nothing. He sighed and also entered, then pressed the button that took them to the ground floor.

Outside, a slick Rolls Royce awaited them, accompanied by Nathan's driver, Jerry Renee.

It was a smooth, silent ride to the estate, but the closer they got, the more nervous Nathan became. And this, of course, did not go unnoticed by Nara.

"Are you alright?" Nara asked softly. At first, she wanted to ignore the fact that he was clearly uneasy, but she just couldn't, so she asked.

Nathan, on the other hand, was quite surprised she asked. They hadn't had a decent conversation for a while without arguing or fighting, so this was definitely a surprise.

"I'm fine." He replied casually.

"Then stop fidgeting with your collar and raking your hands through your hair. And in case you haven't noticed, your right leg hasn't been still since we got into the car. It's like you're scared someone's gonna die tonight."

"Can you not say stuff like that," Nathan replied as he adjusted his collar.

"And can you just calm down? Your grandfather's just gonna read his will. Nothing else," Nara said, actually very confused as to why Nathan was so nervous. She had never seen him like this before. He was always so confident.

"You don't understand. My grandfather built an empire, and he's the only thing holding it together. After tonight, that empire is either gonna fall apart or become weak."

"You're overreacting," Nara responded with an eye roll.

Nathan ignored her. She couldn't understand; she didn't grow up with the hungry, greedy lions he grew up with. If Rebecca was... No, he shouldn't think like that. Not tonight.

He sighed as he turned towards Nara.

"Please promise me you'll be on your best behavior tonight."

"I'm not a child, Nathan. Don't talk to me like that," Nara responded nonchalantly.

"Well, if you didn't behave like one, I wouldn't talk to you like one," Nathan answered firmly.

"Fine. I promise," Nara said.

"Thank you."

"To be on my worst behavior tonight," she added.

"What?" Nathan asked with a frown.

"I'm gonna embarrass you in front of all your family members tonight, so... be ready," Nara replied with dead seriousness.

Nathan was at a loss for words.

"Why can't you just be..."

"Like Rebecca?" Nara cut him off.

"I didn't say that," he growled. He was going to say civilized.

"But you thought it," Nara countered, causing Nathan to shut his eyes in annoyance.

"You don't know anything about her," he said angrily to Nara.

"And I don't want to," Nara replied flatly as she stared right into his intense gray eyes, not the least bit intimidated.

The tension between the two of them seemed to increase by the second, and the person who felt it worst was poor Jerry, the driver. He could barely focus on the road because of the heated back and forth. But he was overjoyed that they had finally reached the family estate.
