Amanda Jenkins picked up her phone and was startled.
The text message read: Amanda Jenkins, answer the phone!!!
Those three words, followed by an exclamation mark, made Amanda feel as if she could sense Lucas Griffin's anger and overbearingness through the phone, instantly conjuring his cold, stern face in her mind.
She quickly tossed the phone aside as if it were a hot potato.
Being as noble as Lucas Griffin, surely no one has ever hung up on him, has she?
Suddenly, the phone rang again, and Amanda picked it up and didn't hesitate to hang up.
Turn it off, go to sleep! Whatever!
Downstairs.
A stiff female voice came from Lucas Griffin's work-only phone, "The number you have dialed is switched off..."
The hand holding the phone tightened slightly as he looked up at Amanda Jenkins's bedroom window, a hint of anger coloring his eyes.
He had lingered outside because he worried she might face trouble at home, and only when he saw the light in her room did he feel somewhat reassured and decided to call to check on her.
But she dared to ignore his call?
And even turned off the phone?
Very well!
It seemed that to win this woman over, being constantly gentle was not the way!
Lucas Griffin stepped out of his car and strode toward the Jenkins Family's house.
His phone suddenly rang, a call from Jonas Jox.
After connecting, Jonas's anxious voice came through from the other end.
"Brother Kirin, where are you? Why is your private phone switched off? The old man knows you didn't go to the United States and is very angry now; you better come back."
"Got it."
After hanging up, Lucas Griffin looked once more toward Amanda Jenkins's window.
The lights inside the room were off; she must have gone to sleep.
With the anger in his heart barely contained, Lucas Griffin returned to his car.
She must be tired after the past couple of days, he'd let her off for now, let her rest well.
Once she's well-rested, he'd see how he deals with her!
Lucas Griffin had initially planned another visit to the hospital to take care of the trouble Amanda Jenkins had caused for Emma Bollock.
But now that his grandfather knew he hadn't gone to the United States, he must go back and explain.
It was already three-thirty in the morning, and the Griffin's Family house was brightly lit.
The members of the Griffin Family had gathered in the main hall of the main house, yet a chilling silence filled the space.
The patriarch was angrily seated on the sofa, and nobody dared to utter a sound; everyone held their breath in tension.
Jonas Jox's palms were sweaty with nerves as he waited apprehensively for a long time, finally hearing Lucas Griffin's footsteps.
Apart from Benjamin Griffin, a group of people turned towards the doorway.
"The Young Master has returned."
A voice announced at the doorway, and Lucas Griffin subsequently appeared in everyone's sight.
The servant immediately went forward to take off his coat and respectfully stepped aside.
Lucas Griffin approached and bowed in front of Benjamin Griffin, "Grandfather, I am sorry."
Benjamin Griffin's face was cold and expressionless, and though he wasn't explosively angry, he emitted a powerful, authoritative aura without showing rage.
"Lucas, where have you been this late if you haven't gone to the United States?"
The one asking was Lucas Griffin's mother, Sienna Bieber.
Sienna Bieber maintained herself well and still looked young and beautiful.
Lucas Griffin replied, "I'm going to handle some private matters."
"Is it because of that Amanda Jenkins again?" Benjamin Griffin finally spoke, his deep voice tinged with anger.
"Yes, she had a little dispute with Emma," Lucas Griffin responded truthfully, knowing his grandfather must already be aware of tonight's events and by tomorrow, the whole of Brocade City would be abuzz. There was no point in hiding it.
Benjamin Griffin snorted, "You call putting Emma in the hospital a little dispute?"
Lucas Griffin explained, "It was an accidental mishap due to alcohol."
"And you're still taking her side!" Benjamin Griffin suddenly raised his voice, "In the past, you would never let a woman's issues interfere with your work!"
Lucas Griffin lowered his head and said no more, well aware of his grandfather's character, that the more he tried to explain, the angrier his grandfather would become.
"Do you have any idea how much we stand to lose because of your delay this time?" Benjamin Griffin pounded his cane forcefully on the ground, "You never used to disappoint me like this!"
Everyone else was too frightened to speak, but Sienna Bieber said, "Dad, please, don't be angry. It's rare for a girl to catch Lucas's eye, as you know. He's never been in a relationship before, and as for the United States, let Samuel handle it."
Sienna Bieber glanced at her younger son, Samuel Griffin, standing to the side.
Samuel Griffin quickly stepped forward, "I will follow Grandfather's arrangement."
With refined features, Samuel looked more like Sienna Bieber, always wearing a playful appearance unlike Lucas Griffin's aloofness.
At this moment, he was the only one with a smile on his face.
"Samuel has just returned from studying in the United States and is more familiar with matters there. Lucas has always been in charge of affairs in France and is definitely not as familiar with the United States, so I think it would be more appropriate for Samuel to go," Sienna Bieber said, approaching Lucas Griffin and looking at him, "You've been busy all night, and you must be tired now, you've even lost weight recently."
Lucas Griffin didn't say anything, his lips curling up slightly.
Mom had never given him a second glance, let alone cared whether he was thin or not.
He knew all too well what she intended.
After a moment of silence, Benjamin Griffin spoke up, "The clothing company in Brocade City has just gone public, and this sector is Samuel's responsibility. There will also be a lot of dealings with the Jenkins Family. Lucas will go to the United States."
Benjamin Griffin stood up, looked at Lucas Griffin with a stern expression, and commanded, "Go to the United States first thing tomorrow morning, no delays! I don't want to see a repeat of today's events ever again!"
Lucas Griffin nodded.
Sienna Bieber seemed about to say something more, but Benjamin Griffin had already turned and begun walking upstairs with his cane.
She cast a cold glance at Lucas Griffin and then turned to leave as well.
Samuel Griffin quickly followed after her.
In the living room, only Lucas Griffin, Jonas Jox, Aunt Morgan, and a few servants remained.
"It's alright now, you all may go to rest," Aunt Morgan instructed, and the servants gradually left.
Just as Lucas Griffin was about to leave, Aunt Morgan called out to him, "Lucas, don't take what the madam said tonight to heart. She just hopes the Second Young Master can help share some of your burdens."
"I know, Aunt Morgan, you don't need to worry either. I'm going back to my room," Lucas Griffin said with an indifferent expression, then turned to Jonas Jox, "Come to my room, I have something to entrust to you."
Once in Lucas Griffin's bedroom, Jonas Jox couldn't help but complain.
"I really don't understand. Both sons are her own flesh and blood, but why does she always favor the Second Young Master? On the surface, she appears considerate of you, but clearly, she wants the Second Young Master to take over the matters in the United States. With more power in the hands of the Second Young Master than Brother Kirin in the future, it's uncertain who the successor to the Griffin Group will be. Fortunately, the old man cherishes Brother Kirin most. He only reprimanded you a little for tonight's event."
Lucas Griffin's brow furrowed, and Jonas Jox promptly shut his mouth, then cautiously asked, "Uhm... Brother Kirin, do you have any instructions for me?"
"I might be in the United States for a week this time, and I'm still worried about Amanda. Pick out some gifts for Emma and send them over tomorrow morning," Lucas Griffin instructed.
Jonas Jox understood and patted his chest, "Rest assured, Brother Kirin, I know what to do."
"Alright, you should go get some rest as well," Lucas Griffin said.
He stood up and walked into the bathroom to bathe.
The water on the back of his hand was somewhat painful.
He lifted his hand and looked at the ring of teeth marks, envisioning Amanda Jenkins's stubborn little face.
If she were as fierce with others as she was with him, he wouldn't worry about anyone bullying her.
But she always appeared so compliant in front of others.
No, he couldn't bear to leave her alone and go to the United States...
