Fake Smile

Tia and Nini went downstairs to get the food. Nini said,"Umm... Tia, are you sure you are ok?"

"What do you mean Nini?"

"Well... You were happy 1 minute ago and now you are suddenly sad again."

Tia gave out a fake smile and said,"See, I am smiling. I was just thinking something."

"Tia, am I some outsider to you?"

"What do you mean? Outsider?", Tia asked Nini since she was surprised at the question.

Then she continued and said,"You are my friend Nini. You are like a sister to me!"

"Then why did you lie to me Tia?", was what Nini asked.

"What...?", Tia's eyes opened more than usual as she looked at Nini and then she said,"Ok fine. I am sorry Nini. I won't ever lie again!"

"Tehee... Okay then, let's go now. Otherwise we will be late!"

Then they both go down. Tia was hurt because of earlier incidence and hence due to that she wasn't able to walk properly and hence Nini was supporting Tia to walk.

After they reach the ground floor, they see the queue that was formed with many orphans. There were about 100-150 of them. Tia and Nini were now worried since they were the last among them and hence decided to join the queue. They both slowly go and join the queue and even now Tia was being supported by Nini.

Slowly the time passed and the queue started to become shorter. They kept on waiting. Time kept on flying and now it was already night. 3 hours had passed. This was the first time it took so long to pass the food to all. And now finally it was Tia's chance. However, today the one who was distributing the food was the owner herself!

"Oh! So you came?" She smiled and said that to Tia. Nini was confused as she didn't understand what the Owner meant. Nini saw Tia, shivering and then finally she noticed her injuries and understood that it was the Owner who had done this! She scolded herself in her mind for being Tia's friend as it was due to her that Tia got hurt. But now that was not the issue. She was thinking of a way for bringing food for Tia from the cruel Orphanage Owner.

"Ye- Yes...."

"You want food? Fu** Off.... You won't get anything tonight! This is your punishment!"

"But... I... I am sorry..." Tia was sad and was hungry since yesterday. She really wanted something to eat.

"I said Fu** Off! Go away! Shooo..."

Tia was sad now. She couldn't even do anything with her tiny broken body. Hence, she kept quiet. Now it was Nini's turn to get food. But the Owner saw that Nini was Tia's friend and if she were to give Nini food, she would share it with Tia. And with this reasoning she refused to give any more food and just went and locked everything back in the store room. Nini was sad and happy at the same time. She was thinking that instead of eating food from that dirty women she would be happy being starved. However she was sad because she wanted to give some of the food to Tia.

Now they had nothing more to do and hence they went back to their room. With much pain and agony in Tia's heart she apologized to Nini by saying,"I am so very sorry Nini. It was your birthday and yet again I...."

Nini put her hand on Tia's mouth as if trying to close them and prevent her from saying anything more.

They finally reached their room. Nini slowly took out the crushed bread piece which Tia had gifted her previously. Nini had eaten only one-fourth of it and the remaining three- fourth they divided between them and ate.

Nini and Tia, both, were crying as they ate.

At the same time, Emika was crying too as she ate because she felt an unknown pain. She left her food midway and went back to her room. Edwin on seeing this, left his food too and went after Emika to cheer her up.
