Chapter 14

Bianca's eyes bulged. She swallowed the saliva in her mouth. She became heavily pressured. Her body started shivering. She began driving so fast and cutting through different corners just to escape the white car following her.

But the more she tried to escape the car, the more the car closed the distance with her. Bianca was confused on what to do.

If she had evidence on what had happened, she would have leaked it immediately. But as it seems, she was restless. 

She concentrated on the drive until she heard a knock on the quarter glass. With shock enthralling her chest, she looked sideways and was soon thrown off balance when she realized it was a man on a sportbike with a black helmet. 

Before she knew what was happening, the bikeman pulled out a gun and he shot through the window with several hits which broke the quarter glass. The bullet hit Bianca on her chest and she lost consciousness which caused an accident due to the speed at which she was driving.

Joe stood on his feet and he was about closing the data he opened until his eyes caught a glimpse of another person's profile. Written on the profile was [Kim's Profile] 

His achievements were likened to that of Mathew's. When Joe saw the huge similarity, he found it suspicious. 'How can they have such a similar achievement?' He frowned at it - ficial lines appeared on his head.

But he was soon distracted by his phone ring. [Bestling hospital…] Joe checked his phone and to his surprise, it was the company's hospital that was calling him. 

Joe picked up his phone as he raised his head. "Hello. This is Joe, the CEO of the Bestling company."

"This is Doctor Smart and I am calling from the Bestling hospital. Sir, one of your staff members was rushed to our hospital and we found something unusual about her." 

"We found that she was shot right in the chest. I am calling to confirm if we should proceed with the treatment." 

Joe was puzzled about what he just heard. It was surprising and because of the life threatening situation the person was in, Joe couldn't tell them to hold back.

"Commence all operations that are necessary. I will get to your hospital as soon as I can." Joe hung up. He gave it a little thought and then he stormed out of the company.

When the Assistant company president saw Joe rushing out of the company. Her heart skipped several beats. She furrowed her gaze and had to follow him in a rush. On closing up with Joe when he got out of the company, she opened her mouth to talk. "Sir, where are you rushing to? Hope there is no problem?" She was breathing heavily.

That came as a surprise to Joe and he glared at her for a while before he spoke up. "I received a call that one of our staff members is in the hospital. I want to confirm the person's identity."

As soon as he said that, the Assistant company President swallowed hard the saliva in her mouth. "You don't need to bother yourself about such a trivial matter. I can as well represent you at the hospital." 

Joe found her words annoying and he lashed her. "You call a member of the company staff that was shot a trivial matter?! How cruel can you be?" He furrowed his gaze at her and she fell on her knees before him without caring about the eyes that were on her.

"I am sorry, Sir. I didn't know it was as critical as…" Before she could finish, Joe felt embarrassed.

He raised her up with his hand. "You don't have to do that. It hasn't gotten up to that." "You know what? Let's go together."

With a smile that curved her lips, she replied. "Thank you, sir."

The driver entered the car and Joe went into it with his Assistant President. 

"Take me to Bestling hospital immediately."

Joe stepped down from the car immediately he arrived at the hospital. 

His legs moved with speed into the hospital and he went directly to the front of the receptionist.

"I received a call from Doctor Smart stating that one of my staff members was shot in her chest and was rushed here." "I need to see her immediately."

The receptionist didn't recognize Joe even after the unveiling but on seeing the person standing with him, she replied rapidly. "Come with me, sir. The doctor had finished commencing the operation of the removal of the bullet."

Joe didn't say a word as he followed the receptionist until they got into the ward. Joe was taken directly to the patient and at a glance on who laid on the sick bed, Joe's eyes widened with bewilderment.

Memories of how he sent her out of his office flashed his mind. 'Did I possibly send her to her death?' 

"This is the patient. Did you recognise her?" 

Joe was distracted from his thoughts at that statement. "She is my ex-secretary. Who could have wanted her dead?"

"I can't say sir." immediately she paused a little bit, the doctor rushed into the ward. 

"I am sorry for coming late, sir. I just heard you are in the ward."

Joe turned to face him. "Who could have wanted her dead?"

The doctor took a breath before he spoke. "I don't know. But with the skill the attacker used to release the bullet, it is shown he is an average militant. And with how the bullet hit her several times, I could tell the person could be a hired assassin."

That word hit Joe and he started connecting the dots. 'Why was it that it was when Mathew was alleged by her that an hired assassin was sent after her?' 'Could Mathew orchestrate this'

Joe was silent for a while and that made the doctor ask him a question. "Do you have an idea of anybody that could do this?"

Joe glared at his face. "I don't know. But I guess it could be Mathew. Both of them are not on good terms."

"Since you have your suspicions, hope you don't mind if we get him arrested sir."

"Do that quickly. We must get to the root of all this."

"Hello, sir. The job has been perfected." 

Mathew's lips curved with a smile after hearing that good news. He dropped his phone and was about to celebrate when he turned on the television and he saw the news of the live event.

Fear gripped his heart at the trail that was left behind. He called up the assassin and immediately he picked, he lashed him.

"You fool! How could you leave a trace behind? That bastard was rushed to the hospital." His voice was tense.

"You need not to…"

Before he could finish speaking, he heard a loud microphone from outside. "Mr Mathew, your house is all surrounded. You have no means of escape. Place your hand above your head and gently step out of your apartment at the count of ten. If you fail to come out after the count, we will come get you out by force."

That came as a shock to Mathew and he had to peep through his window. To his surprise, he realized that his house was surrounded by police officer's.

'Did they find out the truth about what happened?' Mathew was destabilized as fear engulfed his heart.
