Chapter 13

Mathew denied without a blink of an eye. Joe wasn't sure if the secretary was telling the truth.

"Start spilling the words already, Mathew. You sent me to give him the papers. Just say it." Mathew tried to squeeze her hands off his shirt. But the grip was too strong.

"I don't know what is happening to you… maybe you've got the wrong guy. I don't know anything you are talking about." In anger, the secretary shot a deadly glare into his eyes to speak.

Joe had to intervene when he saw that his office would soon be turned to a fighting ring. "That's enough! Comport yourselves." Hearing his voice didn't make the secretary leave his shirt.

"I am not leaving him until he says the truth. He gave me the papers. I can't lose my job because of him." Joe could feel the pain at which she spoke from. But he can't let his office be a medium for battle and clashes.

"If you don't let go of his shirt, I will call the security to throw you out of my company. Do you understand?"

Reluctantly, the secretary left his shirt. Joe spoke fiercely. "What is wrong with you? Why would you hold his shirt? I didn't call you here to fight." "Mr Mathew said he knows nothing about what you are saying. This means you are the mastermind of it all. To this end, I will have you put behind bars for lying and falsely accusing an innocent man."

The secretary's eyes welled with tears. All she was trying to do was to prove her innocence but things just got worse for her. "I am telling the whole truth. Mathew is lying and pretending not to know anything about this matter."

Joe looked at her with pity in his eyes. "Do you have evidence that shows Mr Mathew was involved?"

That shut the secretary up for sometimes. "I don't have any evidence but he gave it to me and I am certain."

"That is not enough to prove your innocence. I am calling the cops right away."

Joe brought out his phone to call but to Joe's surprise. The secretary came to hold his hand so he wouldn't be able to make the call.

"Please don't call the cops on me. I am telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Please believe me."

Mathew took some paces forward and jerked her hands off Joe's phone. "You dare lay your hands on the CEO of this company?! Do you have a death wish?" He furrowed his gaze on her and in anger, the secretary ditched a dirty slap on his face. She pointed a finger at him.

"You filthy liar. You dare act innocent after you brought this doom upon me?!"

Mathew faced Joe. "This woman is definitely crazy. I don't know what she is talking about and she dares to raise her hand on me."

Joe couldn't further condone her madness. And when she saw he was about to place a call across, she fell on her knees and worshiped his feet.

"Please, forgive my rash attitude. But…" Joe didn't let her finish before he cut in.

"Stop making a fool of yourself. Leave my office right away or you will force me to call the cops as against your wish."

The secretary swallowed hard the saliva in her mouth. She hardened her face and she stood on her feet. "Now I know I can't fully prove myself to you that I am innocent. I will take my leave." She turned to face Mathew. "But you! You will certainly hear from me."

Joe watched her leave his office. Immediately she was gone, Joe furrowed his gaze at Mathew and it made Mathew's heart raced with fear. In order to clear himself, Mathew opened his mouth to speak. "Hope you don't believe any word she uttered from her mouth? sir. I don't know what she was talking about."

"If you've done nothing wrong, there is nothing for you to be worried about." That word of his calmed Mathew's nerves but he was soon shocked with the next statement he made.

"But if I find out that you have a hand in all this, I won't make you only spend the rest of your life in prison, I will make sure you pay a fine for damaging that young woman's reputation and making her lose her job." "You can make my judgment lenient if you come clean about what transpired between you two."

Mathew felt a hit in his chest with those words of his. 'I will make sure you don't find any evidence that points to me in any way.' He thought in his head.

"I really don't know anything about what she is saying. She is just trying all possible best to rope me into what I don't have a hand in. Please, do not take her words to heart."

Joe removed his eyes from Mathew's. "Since you say you don't know anything about all this. You can as well take your leave."

"Okay sir." Mathew answered rapidly and he took his leave out of his office.

Joe placed his hand on his chin with thoughts running through his mind. He took a second glance at the book that contained data of the company staff. Flipping it open rapidly, he stopped at Matthew's Profile.

After reading through all his achievements again, Joe finds it difficult to believe that a person of so much reputation would do that which he was alleged of.

Mathew walked out of Joe's office with a frown on his face. Immediately he got into his office, he picked up his phone and he placed a call across.

"Hello, Mr Kim. Miss Bianca; the secretary has betrayed us. I want her removed from the board."

"Consider it done."

The secretary stepped out of the company. She got into her car with a fierce pain in her heart. 'I will make sure I expose you, Mathew.' She made a firm decision and she started the ignition.

After driving a short distance, she looked into her mirror only to discover that she was being followed by a white car.

Her heart raced with fear.
