Kara takes Dina away secretly

"Don't worry, I will definitely bring it back before you leave work. I know you need to pick your sons from the daycare at five," Emma assured her fellow co-worker, Dr. Sheena.

Dr. Sheena nodded her head in understanding, "I understand… New parents have a lot of tension and they do tend to forget a few important things easily. Never mind. If you can't get it on time, then I will ask my hubby to pick up the kids today."

"Thank you! You are the best, Sheena. I don't know what I would have done without your help. Thank you!" Emma thanked her for the hundredth time.

"It's ok. Relax. It's fine. Now go ahead. Give it to the couple," Dr. Sheena removed the car seat and gave it to Emma.

"I have an appointment in five minutes. So, I have to go now. See you later," Dr. Sheena waved her hand at Emma and went back inside the hospital.

Emma waited until she disappeared from her eyes before walking to her car. She unlocked it and tried to fix the child's car seat. As she had never fixed one in her life before, it took her several minutes to fit it properly on the backseat of the car.

She messaged Kara, saying that,

"I told my colleague that my cousin's friend was getting discharged today. As they were in a hurry, they couldn't go shopping at the last minute for the child's car seat. I also promised her that I would bring the car seat back in a few hours. So we must hurry. Come down soon. Love you… Also, be careful. Make sure to take the east wing elevator. Not many people use that."

Once Kara saw the message, she signaled Ava that everything was ready. Ava removed the wristband from the baby's tiny hand to avoid alerting the security. She cautiously walked towards the exit door with Kara in tow.

Kara and Ava took an elevator to the underground parking garage while holding the baby in a huge tote bag. When the elevator door opened on the next floor, they saw the hospital's director enter the lift. They almost lost their lives and even had to hold their breaths as they were carrying a ticking time bomb with them.

If the baby starts to cry, then they would get caught so easily before they could even set their foot out of the elevator. The next thing that would happen, they do not even want to imagine it.

"Good morning beautiful ladies. How is it going?" The director smiled at them and asked.

"Good," Ava and Kara uttered while sweating all over their body.

"Good, See you then." The director said and got out of the elevator once it stopped on the next floor.

They could finally breathe easily. Kara looked at the bag with relief.

"I thought she would start to cry any minute now and we would get caught red-handed. I even imagined myself getting handcuffed by the officers and being brought to the police station." Ava said while leaning on the wall behind her.

She held her chest with both her hands and took several deep breaths to calm her nerves.

To their luck, no one entered the elevator after that and it directly reached the underground parking. Emma parked the car just right next to the elevator and Kara hopped inside the car along with her baby.

She opened the car's window and mouthed, "Thank you!" to Ava.

"Do not worry! Just make sure, not to forget to invite me to your wedding. And also remember that you promised to make me your bridesmaid in your marriage." Ava said with a wink.

Kara nodded her head with a happy expression and held Ava's hands gratefully.

"We need to go now! We cannot stay here for long," Emma reminded them.

"Yes! Go ahead! Be careful on your way home! Bye-bye," Ava waved at them and walked inside the hospital light-heartedly.

Emma drove the car away from the parking lot and stopped near the gate. Once she swiped the car, she joined the ongoing traffic carefully. She did not say a word until she passed the security gate and entered the main road.

"I did not expect you to be so brave and make that decision all by yourself without consulting me first," Emma complained while adjusting the rearview mirror to look at the backseat.

Kara, who was placing the baby in the child seat looked up and said,

"I learned it from you! Now drive while looking ahead. And stop checking on us, like, every two seconds. Once we are home we will talk about what we need to do next. I am too tired now as I was worried earlier that we would be caught at any minute. All of this struggle was just for you sweetie pie…"

Kara pinched the baby's cheeks and tickled her chin.

'If you had listened to me, then we would have not been in this trouble. We could have properly adopted her.' Emma wanted to nag but she did not have enough courage to voice out her concern loudly.

Kara played with the baby and tried to entertain her throughout the journey. Emma looked at Kara's motherly nature with a smile and drove the car towards her home.

Once the car stopped next to Emma's apartment building Kara removed the baby from the child seat. She got down first along with Dina without even waiting for Emma. They both went inside Emma's apartment and she placed the baby on the couch.

She then went inside the room to bring paper and a pen to make a list of things that would be needed for the baby. Emma felt like she was being left alone by both of them. She pouted her lips and walked near Kara with a big bag in her hand.

"Here's the list of important things that we would need for our baby right now. We will buy some more things later as the need arises. Ava had already packed some formula, clothes, and diapers that we could use for a couple of days. But we need to buy and stock up a little more as we won't be moving to another city for the next two months."

Kara instructed and gave her the paper that had a long list of things that she needed to buy.

"Actually, regarding that, I was asked to join the hospital early. I mean by next week... So I came to the nurse's station today to give you a heads up about that. But in the end, we brought a baby home." Emma said while looking at the baby in Kara's hands.

Emma was still unable to believe that they already had a baby before they even got married. She had just proposed yesterday and now their family has grown into a size of three. She was still in a daze when Kara responded to her in delight.

"Really?" Kara asked in excitement with twinkling eyes.

She lifted the baby near her face and kissed both her cheeks. If they were going to leave soon, then they don't have to worry much about getting caught. Staying in this city any longer would be dangerous for them all.
