Training The Spear

Tate starts making two of each practice weapon so that the skeletons and Stacy could also use the weapons as well. Of course, Tate makes everything out of hardened stone but since its hardened Hes able to make it thinner and lighter, but they are blunt for sparring purposes. Finally, the five skeletons show up and walk onto Tates new sparring area.

Tate commanded each one of them to use a specific weapon and to always use that weapon.

"I guess I will start with the spear and shield I have never used a shield to block only used my weapon to block so this will certainly be a learning experience."

Tate sends mental images to the spear wielding skeleton, teaching it what Tate knows about that weapon. Tate and the skeleton both take the same fighting stance, shields in front of them slightly below their eyes, bent knees to lower the body and the spear stationed at the top right corner of the shield waiting to strike out like a snake.

Tate gave his shield a roman design, big and rectangular. Tate doesn't know much about shields, so this is the first shield he decided to try. The only difference with Tates shield compared to the original roman shield is that there is a notch on the top right side of the shield where the spear can rest and to help thrust the spear.

Tate is holding his position when the skeleton suddenly charges at him and uses a shield bash. The big shield was quite effective at the shield bash and Tate was suddenly glad he increased his strength because if he didn't, he would be sprawled out on the ground right now. The skeleton is bigger and is pushing Tate backward, Tate spins to the side and suddenly is behind the skeleton and gently strikes it in the back with a thrust of his spear so the skeleton knows Tate won that round. Tate doesn't want to break his skeletons after all.

"Next round Tate commands."

They get back into their positions, this time they are trading thrusts at each other, dodging and blocking but nothing is really happening.

"These shields are amazing for an army obviously, history has the proof, but in one-on-one single combat it's a little challenging there is not a lot of different moves that can be performed with this big shield, so what better shield for single combat than the Viking shield and it can be used in a army."

Tate makes several of the Viking shields and gets into position again, Tate doesn't send any mental information to the skeleton he wants to see if it learns. Tate thrust the spear forward and the skeleton takes it head on, it then retaliates with its own spear thrust. Tate uses the Viking shield properly and twists the handle at the center of the shield to the same side the attack is about to hit softening the impact to a bare minimum, giving Tate an opening and catching the skeleton off guard.

The skeleton was surprised, its spear was sticking straight out and Tates own spear was aimed at its ribs once again.

"Two for me skelly boy, Tate said in a mocking tone."

Tate slightly noticed a change in the skeleton when he said that and felt like the situation just got a little more serious.

On the third round the skeleton didn't move and just watched Tate very closely, they paced around one another sizing each other up and down. Tate charged the skeleton and tried to use the shield bash himself, but suddenly found himself flying to the side. The skeleton pivoted its body and crashed into Tates charge, since the skeleton has the weight and size advantage it won.

Tate rolled on the ground and in the process released his shield, the skeleton was quickly coming at Tate, armed with just his spear Tate started lashing out different thrust attacks that the skeleton was barely blocking.

"I need a more powerful move I can't break its block, with these basic thrusts. I do have a more powerful spear now than when I was with the tribe so I can slash without the weapon breaking but how would that help."

"I need to generate more momentum with my attacks and slashes would help but I don't know if that's enough to break through, well let's give it a try."

Tate and the skeleton are holding their positions, when suddenly Tate brings the spear back into a baseball bat position and then swings it forward.

BAM, the noise echo across the grass land as the spear slammed into the shield stumbling the skeleton slightly but it held its position.

"I need more momentum."

Tate suddenly does a 360-degree spin instead of the 90 degree he did in the baseball bat position. Tate hit the skeletons shield so hard the skeleton spun 360-degrees back into its original position.

"I made these shields to strong."

Tate changes his attack again and this time brings the spear tip behind his back leg for a 180-degree attack, Tates aim is an upper slash attack to knock the shield up and open up the skeleton.

Tate swings the spear upwards in a slashing motion and the shield does move up like he wanted but not enough, Tate changes his plans immediately and does a full 360-degree spin he already had some of the momentum and then does a downward slash on the skeletons shield. The skeletons shield crashes into the ground, Tate quickly does a sideways slash and stops right at the skeletons neck.

"Well thanks Skelly, fighting you I was able to finish learning the basics and some advanced moves. I should have known that ignoring, learning the slash attacks would have prevented me from advancing, those are the foundation moves of almost every melee weapon."
