If it wasn't enough that their vision was also affected by the veil of darkness, their movement was also hindered by the moving ground or by the rocks and stone pillars that fell from the sky.
Anyone spectating the whole thing would've thought that if an Apocalypse would happen, it would look like this.
'What's going on? Was there another powerful being present inside the Portal?' Thought Lux, seeing that even the exit of the Portal got covered by a black wall that seemed to be both made of stone and some kind of murky energy.
"Come here." Said Argus, and the other Forgotten Beasts listened to him and left Lux alone.
The sudden interference of that thing was probably because Argus was prepared to get involved in the battle and cause some kind of destruction to the world inside the Portal.
