CHAPTER 1: THE BEGINNING

THUD!

THUD!

A heartbeat was heard racing ferociously as a baby with dark eyes and curly black hair was seen placed on some sort of altar.

"Do we really have to do this? He would stand out in the realm of mortals and you know that."

"We must, it's our only choice." Two blurry figures which seemed to be a man and a woman conversed as the man made a cut on his palm with a sword and let the Blood drip down on the altar and everywhere in the baby's line of view glowed a bright white light.

"Arrgh!" A scream could be heard.

"Jim! What happened? Are you okay?" A woman with blonde hair and dark eyes said as she rushed into a room which was elegantly furnished and had a huge bed with a dark haired teenager covered in sweat sitting on it.

"Mom!" He exclaimed.

"It's the nightmares! They keep coming back!" The boy said as his mother rushed to his side and held him tight.

He had dark eyes and a well structured body frame and had a handsome face which had a v-shaped jawline and he was pretty tall as well, this was Jimmy Oscar, a powerless kid who lives in a world where power means everything.

Humans were currently at war with certain alien life forms who called themselves "the scarls."

The descended upon earth in the year 4521 due to the home planets Kavor being destroyed no one knows why.

They plan on conquering the earth since they were better than humans in both technology and intelligence even physical attributes too, the scarls strength is determined by the number of horns they had with one being the weakest and four being the strongest to be encountered by man they have built bases and various settlements on other planets and solar systems and so have the humans too, but earth was the main target.

When humans have been pushed back and were on their last legs a ray of hope shone. The particles or pieces of landmass from Kavor had entered the earth's atmosphere in form of meteorites these meteorites contained energy from an unknown reaction from Kavor which entered the bodies of humans and granted them special abilities, while some instead of abilities got mutations.

The meteorites that contained fossils of the Kavorian beasts mutated the humans and turned them into mindless beasts that attacks anything or anyone on sight but this were few.

As the human's procreated they discovered the their offsprings also possessed this special abilities and the war was fought to a standstill.

Humans who were born with these special abilities were known as the AWAKENED.

As for Jim, he was a weird case because both of his parents were awakened but he wasn't. While his sister Amy was also an awakened.

Awaken had various ranks according to their strength they were F5,F4, F3,F2,F1,E5,E4...E1,D5,D4...C5,C4...C1,B5,B4...B1,A3,A2,A1.

Then there was the S and X rank with X being the highest.

The X rank was a rank that means one has attained undefined power... No man has reached that stage yet.

"It's fine, it's okay now mommy's right here." Jim's mother whose name was Samantha said as she embraced her son in a tight hug.

A Few minutes later, Jim went downstairs after freshening up and preparing for school, the world may be filled with ability users but education was still important although unlike the former system of education, this one focused mostly on abilities themselves although there was still normal subjects like commerce and arts a new and dominant department has been created specially for ability users, this was where problems rose for Jim.

He attended White Valley Academy, one of the most prominent schools in Affixane which was Jim's city, it was a school for ability users and Jim... had no ability.

His life was pretty miserable for someone who attended a school for ability users and had no ability the whole world seemed to reject him and the only one who seemed to give him a little bit of solace in his hard times was none other than his sister. Amy Oscar.

She was the only light in his dark gloomy world. She was a D4 Transformative ability user which was rather rare and she had the looks to complement it, she had a beautiful face like a porcelain doll and slender features but despite all this features, she was a stern, non-challant person with sharp azure coloured eyes that seemed like they could pierce into the very soul of those she gazes at, it seemed like the only one who could bring out the soft side in her was her little brother Jim.

Affixane could be described as the perfect city, it was a tier 1 city which was crime free with literally zero percent crime rate, one of the cities for the most prominent humans on the surface of the earth Jim's father Joe Oscar, a military general with scruffy blonde hair, broad shoulders, and crimson red eyes with a scar running across his left cheek, despite his appearance, he was pretty calm and easy going with a beautiful wife Samantha.

Downstairs, his mom had already made breakfast and everyone was already eating he had a dark expression as he looked around and joined them.

"Good morning dad, Morning Amy." He greeted.

"Sup lil bro?." Amy responded cheerfully while his dad nodded.

"Your mum said you had another nightmare today, how..."

"I don't wanna talk about it ." He cut his dad short.

The atmosphere turned gloomy, he felt it was his fault, he knew they were only looking out for him but he just wasn't in the mood to talk, with a sigh he stood up.

" I'm sorry. I'm heading to school now." He said making Amy's eyes bulge for some reason.

" You goofball!, Did you really just forget?, Today's your birthday dumbass!" Amy declared.

" Oh... " Were the only words that managed to escape his lips. His lips twitched for a moment before curling upwards.

"You know what that means right?" Amy asked.

"Of course I do, how could I ever forget? I'm gonna get an ability! Finally! " Jim rejoiced completely dispelling the negative atmosphere.

Over the years, humans found out that some people were born without an ability, although these were very few and rare, they couldn't be ignored, so they discovered a way to make artificial abilities, they found a way to get the the energy stored in the meteorites and make them into spherical orbs, these were known as ability orbs, a person who had no ability could absorb one of these and be granted an ability, however , a person can't take more than one ability orb or else they would simply implode an ability user also couldn't use one or risk having the same fate.

Jim's parents had promised him that once he clocked 16 they would get him an ability, the reason for that was because there was an age limit to reach before taking the orb also these orbs were crazy expensive although Jim's parents were on the rich side, they would surely feel the impact of purchasing an ability orb and knowing his parents, he knew they wouldn't settle for less, they would get him something of the D3 rank and above. Or so he thought...
