She scrolled through the screen and stopped halfway through the page, "Here. It says the other owner was. . . Lu Yuzhe."
It was like she was struck by lightning as Xu Anyi heard that, and at once, the memories from five years ago returned to her. Yes, after getting married, she had created a joint bank account with Lu Yuzhe, since that was what most married couples did.
If she remembered correctly, it was Lu Yuzhe who had brought up that suggestion to use a joint account.
So, all of her money also went into that account.
She had not thought much about it, but now, she was beginning to feel chills up her spine at how disgusting and shameless Lu Yuzhe could be. How did she get married to a piece of trash like that?!
"Is it possible to help me check where all of the funds in this account went?"
The worker turned the computer screen back to herself and she looked through it for a few seconds, and then shook her head with a frown, "I can see from the record that the other owner moved all of the funds out before closing the account, but it doesn't say where it was transferred to."
Xu Anyi nodded and looked down at the check in her hand with a sigh.
She did not expect to have any money left anyway, but she still couldn't help but feel disappointed and regretful, especially since all that money just went to Lu Yuzhe. . . Including her father's company!
Xu Anyi's eyes burned with anger at the thought, and the worker took a step back in fear at seeing her sudden change in expression, "Um- excuse me. . . Are you okay?"
Xu Anyi looked up and broke out of her own thoughts, and quickly smiled as she nodded, holding out the check.
"Yes, can I open a new account?"
—
About an hour later, she had finished opening a new bank account and after putting the check in, she was feeling better and more hopeful again as she left the bank and got into another taxi.
She hummed the entire way home, and entered the house to hear sounds coming from the kitchen. She looked up in surprise as she took off her shoes and walked in cautiously.
When she reached the dining room, she saw Si Mu walk out of the kitchen, holding two bowls in his hands and wearing an apron, "Lunch is ready."
Xu Anyi looked at him in shock as she rushed over and helped him grab one of the bowls, "Didn't you go to work? Why are you here?"
He smiled, "It's lunch break and I wanted to eat at home."
Although he did not say it directly, Xu Anyi knew that he had come back for her, and she smiled brightly as she went to wash her hands and then set up the table.
As they sat down to eat, Xu Anyi leaned forward and announced excitedly, "I got paid my first paycheck! It's not a lot, but. . . I can treat you to dinner tonight!"
Si Mu raised an eyebrow but seeing the excitement on her face, he nodded, "Sure. . . But I have to go back to work in the afternoon."
He looked up as if a new thought had just crossed his mind, "Then why don't you come to work with me this afternoon, and then we can go to dinner together."
Xu Anyi thought about it for a moment and then nodded, "Okay!"
—
Xu Anyi sat on the couch and closed her phone after looking at it for the past two hours. Si Mu was still staring at the same screen, and he seemed to be very immersed in his work.
Xu Anyi looked over at him for a while and then looked at the plates of food and snacks on the table in front of her and she opened a bag of chips and took one bite. She then picked up a fashion magazine to the side and flipped it open, randomly looking through the pages.
When she had almost reached the end of the magazine, she stopped when she saw the word 'Design' on the top of a page. This was probably a magazine from a while ago, because the set from the last season was on the page.
When Xu Anyi saw the image, she suddenly remembered the invitation she had thrown into her bag. . . The invitation from Xia Yiwei.
She raised an eyebrow as she closed the magazine and placed it back onto the table and also set the bag of chips down. She opened her bag and looked inside, immediately seeing the eye-catching red envelope inside her half-empty handbag.
She pulled it out and ripped it open carelessly, practically tearing the envelope in half. Inside, there was a small card that had a beautiful picture of Xia Yiwei on it in the front, holding two balloons with the numbers '27' on it.
Inside, it was written:
'I would like to invite you to come attend my 27th birthday party on 4/3 at 7 PM on the top balcony of the Xin Hotel. Please present this invitation when you arrive. I look forward to seeing you there!'
Xu Anyi flipped the invitation around in her hand as she leaned back against the couch, looking up at the ceiling. She obviously did not want to attend her stupid birthday party, and Xu Anyi grabbed onto the invitation with both hands, planning to rip it apart.
However, just as the edge of the card tore slightly, Xu Anyi stopped and looked back down at the card.
4/3. . . That would be two days after the pictures came out.
She narrowed her eyes slightly, and her lips curled up into an unreadable smile.
On second thought, she had nothing to do that day, so why shouldn't she attend?
