He nodded with all his ear to her.
"We just collided. Nothing much." She stood properly and corrected her skirt's hem with a stern face.
"It's fantastic; I got you here only. I was about to call you for something." The old lady excitedly held Samanth's hands. Her face carried an affectionate smile that anyone couldn't ignore.
The nurse with whom Samantha argued earlier found a chance to step towards victory.
"See, I told you." The nurse chipped in quickly. It anguished Samatha from rescuing with any possibility.
Still, she kept on her poker face, void of being caught. Alvin looked at the nurse with a frown.
Before he could ask her back, Samantha turned towards the old lady.
"Excuse me, who are you? And why would you call me? I never met with you earlier. You should know the manners to talk in public." Every word slipping from her lips hammered in the old lady's ear.
The eyes were pleading, but there was nothing to control the situation. Her mother, Edwina, felt traumatised by such harsh words.
"Such a bitch", the nurse murmured under her breath.
"What are you saying, daughter?" Edwina looked perplexed after seeing her daughter's changed behaviour.
"daughter" echoed in her ears, and her tears welled up, but somehow, she continued to play effortlessly. Because what she was about to say might break a mother's trust in her daughter.
At that moment, she could only wish to get burry in the slit. It was no less than a curse for her.
The hues of her face changed, and she turned towards Alvin. "Look at the pathetic lifeless people here; for a trivial matter, they started making relations. Such a people these days, I swear." She glanced at her mother with a poker face.
Edwina tried to come closer and held her hand.
"What has happened to you? Why are you talking like this to me? I am your mother. Why are you not recognising me, Samantha?" Edwina panicked after seeing her daughter's behaviour. Her brain stopped working after seeing the other face of her. She was unable to decipher the reason behind her odd actions.
Samantha arrogantly shrugged off her hand and pushed her back in front of everybody. Marin and the nurse looked flabbergasted. It was beyond their imagination how a daughter could hurt her mother so badly in front of many people to hide her identity.
"Hey, stay away from me; only God knows what germs you carry." She pushed her a little.
Stoically, she stepped closer to Alvin and held her hand. And they both walked through the passage.
But before completely disappearing from view, Samantha stopped mid-way and turned towards her mother.
"And by the way, my mother passed away when I was a little girl. So stop pretending like that." She threw blazing eyes towards her and ushered to the exit.
Both Edwina and Martin looked at her retreating figures in disbelief. Edwina started feeling dizzy. Her blood pressure shot up, and she fell on the floor.
She couldn't help herself and toppled down on the floor. Martin and the nurse quickly intervened and helped her sit on the sofa with the wall nearby. Another nurse brought water and sprinkled some drops on her face.
"Sam…" She slowly murmured but could not open her eyes.
"Nurse, help us to take her to her room." Martin requested the nurse in charge.
"Yes, let's go." She nodded. Till then, another nurse brought the stretcher, and they placed her unconscious body on it. They also started giving IVs with naloxone and glucose with other essential salts while still on the way. It might be helpful to bring her to consciousness.
Only her daughter's name was on her lips; no single breath came without it.
On the other hand, Samantha and Alvin were in the hospital porch area heading towards the parking lot. She looked back at her mother with pleading eyes, but her heart stopped beating when she saw her mother falling.
She wanted to run back, hug her, and tell everyone she was her mother. Dispairlly she could only watch her like this. She couldn't forgive herself for what she did today, but to save her mother and Alvin, this was the last resort she could come up with.
The edges of her eyes dampened, 'Mom, you will understand one day your daughter. But please be strong today. Please forgive me, though it was a reprimanding event."
Something was off with Samantha today. It was not true of herself. Rudeness or arrogance overshadowed her today. Why did she do this? So many questions revolved around his mind. Alvin looked flabbergasted throughout the time. Though it was the matter between the old lady and Samantha, she created a massive scene for a trivial matter.
The old lady looked familiar, and he talked to her like a close relative, but she immediately denied it. He decided to ask about it once they were off from the hospital. She was already in a sore mood, which would ignite it more if he asked immediately. He waited patiently for the right time.
They both sat in the car and were about to leave the porch. Suddenly, a knock was heard on the car glass.
Samantha looked up, and her face froze. It was Martin, who looked a little tense.
She rolled down the window and asked in a baffled voice.
"Yes, may I help you out?" Her voice cooled down slightly, but she acted as arrogant as ever.
"Can you come out a bit?" he asked, scorching his forehead with his first finger. Some sweat beads had already formed on it, possibly due to the heat or some tension.
She looked at Alvin for permission. Her heart was pounding because out of nowhere, Martin came to meet her; along with this, everyone saw he was with her mom inside the hospital.
Anxiety shot up on being caught. After today, Alvin interrogates her for everything, and she loses all dearest to her.
Alvin frowned when he saw an unknown man standing there and asking Samantha something. Did they have any past connection already? He didn't want to allow her, but he nodded. He was curious about everything, though.
She could see the questionable clouds hovering on his face, and it was not the correct time to meet Martin. However, she also wanted to know if her mother was okay. She saw her falling but didn't know what had happened after that.
Immediately, she exited the car and closed the door behind it as if waiting for this. But she forgot to roll up the glass of the car window.
"How is mo…?" Before she could ask, she remembered that Alvin was also there. So she changed her words after side-glancing at him.
"I mean. How is your mother?" Her words were faint, and she struggled to hold back her tears.
"Recovering," Martin replied bluntly.
"Why are you here? We are getting late. Tell me, what do you want? " she hurriedly asked. Fear was gearing up because she would talk to Martin. More suspicion would envelop Alvin, and she couldn't afford it at any cost for the time being.
"Nice play." In very brief, he responded to all her questions.
A hidden sly smile drifted on his face, and he quickly returned to disappear. Samantha looked dumbstruck by his response. This was not what she expected at the moment, but there was nothing she could do. The extremity of something wrong overpowered her; still, she sat back in the passenger seat.
Alvin trawled through her face; the events sore his mood, and wanted or unwanted thoughts shadowed him. After everything happened, he wasn't able to surpass something.
"How did that old lady know your name?" His voice was firm.
