Thanks for the help

I walked to the crime scene and saw George had an ice pack on his head. His car had seen better days. The driver's side door was riddled with bullets, the muffler was broken, the window was shattered, one of the doors was barely hanging on and the driver's seat was five feet from where I was standing. I was pleased to say that no one else was hurt. George was briefing the Captain about who may have attacked him. He had two suspects based on the weapons and the type of car. He was placed under protective custody while we searched for clues. We brought the suspects for questioning to find out they were busy making peace with rival gangs. So we were back to square one. So we checked the traffic cams and discovered it was a professional hitman. Figuring out why he did this wasn't that hard. It turns out his daughter was kidnapped by his old boss. He was promised her safe return in exchange for the murder of the police officer. A material witness in a murder trial.

Finding her took the rest of the afternoon. I ended up searching empty or half-built construction sites and was about to give up when I found her in a bank seized building. She was jumpy. The kidnappers put up a fight but in the end they were arrested. She called her father and she gave me the phone with a curious expression. He thanked me with a shaky voice that was teeming with gratitude. I promised him that his daughter will be at the precinct so he can sneak her out so she will not be harmed. He thanked me for my help and promised to return the favor one day. We got to the precinct and I instructed her what to do. I gave her my number so she can call me when she reached her dad so I know she is safe. I got the call and walked back to the captain's office for a deep discussion. He seemed less thrilled at my request to search missing persons. He wanted to know who shot his best officer. I made up a story where I theorize that he was shot by mistake by rival gangs thinking he was in their turf. The criminals were jailed a few hours ago or it involves him being a witness in a case and the persons involved wants him dead. He said he will have people look into it further. He was curious why I wanted to check missing persons. He gave me a curt nod and escorted me there. I spend more than an hour searching through the files till I found who I was looking for. A seven year old boy was missing. The child swore in court that the father was abusive but the court ruled in favor of the father. It was the investigator's theory that the mother took him away to keep him safe. The chief showed up asking for an update and he was waved off.

I asked the captain not to say anything because I didn't want another Andrew Arbour anymore. George was reinstated and he walked in when I said this. So he and the rest of the team sat down as I explained what happened.

I lowered my head in shame, "It was first year of my training. I had just found a rape victim after she was attacked again before her trail. Nancy Arbour was harping about how her son was missing. He had disappeared. So I checked police reports and found out that the woman has been emotionally, verbally, physically abusing her own son. He asked the police to investigate but she was influential politics wise so they looked the other way. His father took him from school and hid him for six months. They found him and returned him to his mother. The father was sent to the deadliest Federal Prison for life. Andrew committed suicide a week later. The ME examined his body and she was shocked. She explained his bones were spiderwebbed with cracks. He had torn ligaments and tendons. The only place spared was his spine but other than that there was no part of his body that was spared from beating. The only time his body was allowed to heal was when he was away from his mother. This wasn't enough to throw her in jail. If anything she was allowed to walk freely and his dad's sentence was intensified. He was sent to solitary confinement. So everytime I see an abusive child that escapes I remember how helpless the law can be because of how influential these monsters can be. How they can do anything without batting an eyelash and walk away. Without the worry of anyone throwing the book at them." I was in tears by then. The chief had snuck into eavesdrop and he was pissed. He asked the guys to investigate if this is a similar incident. It turns out to be a mirror image but unlike last time he wasn't that powerful so he had to go to jail. I walked out of the court knowing I managed to save one child. So I had to hatch a plan to rescue Edgar Geoff. He is Andrew Arbour's dad and current tenet of ADX Florence a maximum security prison in Colorado. I have to make sure that he disappears so I took a walk and felt my pocket. I felt something heavy and remember the secret society. But I changed my mind as I ran to call an old friend for help and she happily complied. The secret society will be a last resort.
