Changes

There was no use in thinking back, neither Samuel can nor these people outside know the reason this all happened. The earthquake, the blinding lights, and the never-ending hallways seems to be some supernatural phenomenon.

Though the unknown is exciting, it is equally as scary.

"Never mind, let's go. Though there was nothing in the Tomb, keep the tomb in check." Samuel ordered his men. It was more of a protection to the people rather than a security against tomb raiders.

Nathan also had no purpose here and accompanied Warlock going back.

A few minutes passed and they arrived at the gate of the Millers family, right before Nathan left Warlock's grandfather apologized for having his men point a gun at Nathan. Nathan was perplexed as he didn't expect such action from Samuel, the latter came off as a stern and tough looking old man, but it seems he was just a man with much love to his family.

Nathan accepted, there was no reason not to and he was able to see a new side of the Millers family. He watched as the row of cars entered the villa, Nathan turned around and walked towards his home.

At his home.

Nathan opened the door and his mother was waiting for him, the face of Thraia showed it all and Nathan would surely be nagged the whole evening.

"I thought that I made myself clear that you were not allowed to go outside, don't you know what time it is? It's dangerous." Thraia's lecture continued for a couple of minutes, but it felt forever for Nathan.

Thraia only stopped when she was tired from all the talking, and seeing that Nathan won't make excuses she just ends it with a reminder that if Nathan were to do it today, he can just sleep outside.

Nathan sighed as he entered his room.

"Now to the next problem," Nathan said as he put his gazes towards the screen in front of him.

A while back.

When a bright light came from the entrance of the tomb, something different was happening to Nathan than the others.

He saw someone, though he was not sure as it was a white silhouette. A man perhaps, but there were no eyes, nose or any other body parts. It was standing.

Without a mouth, it spoke. It didn't scare Nathan as he thought It would. There was something that told him that it's not an enemy.

"I have lived for thousands of years and have met different opportunities. Show me the difference between you and those people from ages ago." As soon as he finished saying that, a non-existent mouth appeared and a huge smile crept up.

[Welcome to the Mortal Ascension System]

The blinding light finished but a screen was in front of Nathan. Seeing the reaction of the people around him, it seems that they can't see the screen.

The 'system' didn't leave Nathan's eyes even as the whole fiasco with Samuel. The whole event further backs up Nathan's theory that solely he can see the mysterious screen.

Back to the present.

Nathan was busy looking at the system while lying down on his bed. There were only four items in the screen:

[Honor]: 0

[Items]: None

[Shop]: To be unlocked

[Magic Wheel]: Obtain a vault prize

The system was different from the ones seen in games, If it's not made of stats then what is the system for.

Why was it called the "Mortal Ascension System," why does it contain only 4 things, is there no level up system?

Tons of questions entered Nathan's mind but he composed himself after a few seconds. This is what it feels to face the unknown.

Before Nathan could feel enthusiastic of his newfound opportunity, The null on the honor's tab made him confused.

A word popped out as he tried to reach for it, "The increment of honor is dependent on the reputation, fame, and achievement of the user of the system. Shop and Magic Wheel can be used using honor."

This made Nathan disheartened, but he can see why. He had never tried anything remarkable in his life, trying to go by the day, he was more infamous rather than a famous person, it's a good thing it doesn't reach a value of negative numbers.

Nathan sighed, there was only one way to fix them.

He chuckled as he never thought he would change only when he was now at a university.

"Well, it's better late than never they say," Nathan said as he dropped down. One thing left was how to turn the screen off, it can't just hinder his sight forever can it?

You press a key or click a button on games when you're exiting certain panels, but this is real life and it would be embarrassing to utter a word every time when calling it out and dismissing it.

He thought and landed with 'thinking it,' it was only a trial but the 'system' was gone.

"Turns out it just needed common sense," Nathan spoke out before sleeping.

Next morning.

For the first time in many years, he is able to sleep very well. He couldn't describe it as long sleep, it was just he was now full of energy.

He got up and coincidentally someone knocked at the door, "This is why I told you not to go outside last night, you'll be late."

"That's not what you said, mom," Nathan said as he opened the door. Thraia felt something was off today, but she put it at the back of her head

"Eat quickly and head to the university or you'll be late."

Neo was already at the table, busy eating. Nathan joined together with his mother, and they all silently ate.

After eating, Nathan and his brother washed up and prepared themselves. Before going out though, Nathan stopped as he uttered, "Maybe it's time."

"Time for what?" Thraia stopped what she was doing and asked, confused.

"It's time to change things, I can't always be a burden here."

"You should've done that a long time ago, why are you saying that now? Go, or you'll both be late," Thraia said, but a smile and a small drop of tears appeared on her face.

Nathan smiled, "Bye!"
