Chapter 8

I didn’t want Rhys to be right, but yes, I’d exhibited childish behavior last night, sneaking out like that. A true friend would never do that, and I needed to make it right. I took out my cell phone and sent a text to Lee.

Me: Are you busy?

Lee: Dude, where’d you go last night?

Me: Sorry, had to bail.

Lee: You didn’t answer any of my texts.

Me: I know.

Lee: I was worried.

Me: I want to explain, but it’s hard.

Lee: It doesn’t have to be.

Me: It is.

Lee: Want to meet somewhere?

Me: I…have my brother with me.

Lee: You have a brother?

Me: Yes.

Lee: Wow.

Me: My time with him is very special.

Lee: It’s okay, I understand.

Me: Maybe you can come over to my place tomorrow and meet him.

Lee: You sure that’s what you want?

Me: Yeah.

Lee: I’d love to.

Me: I’ll send the address.

Lee: Okay.

I texted directions to Lee and suggested a time of ten o’clock. I put away my phone, and saw Rhys coming toward me with a pile of clothing.

“No shoes?” I asked.
