CHAPTER 9

I wake up today feeling happy and for once looking forward to go to school. After Shirley dropped me off without saying much, I decided to go to the family library and look up information, anything I could find about my family.

Since my grandmother told me about heritage power, I have been more curious to know about it. I still have a lot of questions and if these journals of my ancestors can help me with that; that would be helpful. I found journals dated back as 1700s which is so cool. I carried a couple to read in my room. I had started about a woman named Elisa; she happened to have started writing right about my age. I close the journal and put it in the drawer and decide I will continue reading it tonight.

I see Eden's jacket on the chair. I should return it today. I head to the shower, get dressed and decide to wear the coat so as not to forget it as I go to school. My mom is dropping me to school until I get a new car. She always takes the morning drops off as the time to check in with me and see how I am doing.

"How do you find the new school?"

"It's good, different but good"

"I figured as much. This is your first time going to a school that knows who you are and you aren't alone"

I get what she is telling me. I am not so sure about the knowing part though. I can't even say I know myself.

We get in the school parking lot and I say bye to mom. I make my way towards my first class. I keep getting looks but I brush it off. I guess even after a week in the school I am still the new girl. This is the class I have with Eden. I don't know how I feel about seeing him today, if he will ignore my existence like he usually does when we are in school. I decide to sit by the window as other students fill in the class. The class starts and he still doesn't show up. From where I am seated I see people still looking at and whispering but I don't pay attention to it.

I decide to head towards my locker after the class as well as look for Shirley I haven't heard from her since last night.

"Nice jacket. Are you that close with Eden like that?"

"Shirley, I was just thinking about you. You look good"

"You know everyone is talking about you and the owner of the jacket right?"

"It's just a jacket and everyone is always talking about everyone. That's high school" I tell her as I take some books from the locker and put the jacket in the locker too.

"I didn't even know you guy talked or knew each other. I was surprised when I saw you too all cozied up yesterday"

"We were just talking. He seemed frustrated about something and I was starting to get bored."

"You don't know do you?"

"Know what?"

"Eden and Justus had an argument because of you yesterday at the party. Then today you show up in school wearing his jacket, that's a lot to talk about"

I slam the locker shut and look at her

"I didn't know they had an argument, let alone that it was about me"

Shirley looks at me as if she can't believe me

"You are so unaware aren't you? For as long as I have known Eden there is nothing like that has ever happened let alone have a fight with Justus. They are best friends since they were babies. You stirred things up. He must like you. A lot. "

"I should be the one asking you what happened to you yesterday."

I try to divert the story towards her. This is not how I saw my day starting. I had no idea Eden and Justus had an argument about me. We make our way towards the next class.

"Now is not the time to venture that road and I see what you are doing eve" she laughs. We find our seats and settle down. That's when I see Victoria and her group of friend come in . I didn't know we had the same class. She looks at me so coldly and I guess I the gossip reached her. This is going to be a long morning.

"This is going to be the most exciting thing that has happened in awhile" Shirley tells me all giddy

"you know for a friend you look awfully happy and expectant about the situation I am in"

"I know you can hold your own. I just want to see you knock Victoria down a peg or two."

I take a deep breath and contemplate. This is not what I imagined my day going at all. Now there is an expected catfight and I honestly can't imagine myself doing that. Fighting over a man because of gossiping? This is crazy.

After the class I try making my way to avoid any sort of confrontation with anyone that could led to drama.

"Stay away from him"

I guess I am not so lucky. I turn around and Victoria is glaring at me. "I'm sorry?"

"You shouldn't start crossing my boundaries if you want a peaceful life here. I am aware you left new York for whatever reason; it would be sad to see you running back like a lost wounded puppy" her friends laugh at that.

"I'm sure I would have an answer to whatever question you seem to be asking but since I don't get it, I'm going to leave now"

she makes a move to stop me "I wouldn't do that if I were you" I warn her

"Eden is mine. This school, is my playing field. Its time you knew your place." She glares

I leave her by the hallway. By then a lot of students had started looking and murmuring which made the whole situation worse. I think I should tick having a boy drama scene in the hallway off my list.

"You handled that well" Shirley is on my heels. I like her but I feel like being alone at the moment.

"I will see you in lunch" I tell her as I divert and head towards the field away from the school complex

I decide to sit on the bleachers since there is no one in the field all the classes are going on. I am breaking the school law but I have never been one to follow rules. I see a figure steps down to where I am seated. Eden.

"Are you following me or something new girl?"

Of course it's him. He had to be everywhere I was.
