"Now what?"
Kane didn't know why the kids were working in pairs to watch and confirm that the orchard was free of slimes. What he did know was the fact that he would have to deal with them. Although just waiting for the next day and hoping that only one kid would come at a time, he didn't want to do that. The thing Kane needed most wasn't guts or magic. He needed information above all else.
Kane needed to know what would happen once he levels up. Would he gain status points to distribute? Or would the status increase on its own? He needed to know what happens to think about the things that might happen in the future and organize his thoughts for that.
"I guess my only option is to knock them down at the same time and then leave this place. To reincarnate as a goblin, I will have to survive for three more days… achieving that without food will be hard, but I don't have any other choice."
The orchard wasn't that big, so if Kane decided to knock down the kids, staying there wouldn't be an option anymore. Now that he thought about it, those kids were probably the sons and daughters of those who worked for the owner of the orchard. If things get too messy, Kane would be hunted by forty or so people instead of just twenty teenagers.
In any case, Kane decided to make the most of the situation. If the kids and their parents started to hunt him down, then good, the other slimes would have a chance to escape. If that didn't happen, then his chances of surviving would increase by tenfold.

The very moment the boy and the girl passed by him, it was the moment he attacked them. The girl was armed with a lance, while the boy had two short knives. Kane could only fire five Water Balls per second, so he decided to knock down the girl first since her lance would be troublesome.

Everything went according to the plan, but Kane didn't stop there. Those kids would only wake up five minutes later, and since their friends were too busy killing other slimes, he had some time to do more. After approaching the fallen kids, Kane fired Water Balls toward their weapons.
Although Kane had to use all his remaining mana, he succeeded in breaking both weapons, and he also received some pleasant news.

Kane frowned because by just leveling up his Water Ball and himself a single time, he became fifty percent stronger, at least magically speaking. Instead of three, he could knock down those kids with only two Water Balls. Although that was fantastic, Kane had no time to celebrate. His mana bar was empty, so he had to hide.
"Those kids don't have spare weapons… so maybe it is a good idea to see how things will proceed."
Kane hid in a bush a few dozen meters away from the fallen kids. Most likely, those two wouldn't dare to fight a slime that knocked them down in an instant with broken weapons. The other kids would, but Kane was confident that he would recover his mana before they got close to him.
If Kane attacks them by surprise, he could knock down at least ten more kids. Although waiting for things to keep proceeding favorably was a bit too much, Kane was still prepared for the worst.
"Maybe I should knock down those kids again just to make sure that I will have enough time to recover, mana. It won't make much difference, and at this point in time, I doubt that they will receive some brain damage from my Water Balls. Kane would have to spend 4.4 mana points to knock those kids again, and while they sleep, he would only recover five mana points. It wasn't much, but it was better than nothing. His regeneration of mana didn't increase, so Kane had to make things as efficient as possible.
In the end, Kane did exactly that. When the two kids were about to take up, he knocked them down again. Much to his surprise, they collapsed after a single getting hit by a Water Ball. That made Kane realize that monsters weren't the only ones who had health, mana, and stamina bars… and humans also could sustain damage for quite a while.
