Chapter 5

No sooner had Moona left, than Miss Baxter appeared, rapping on my door frame.

“Miss Baxter?”

“Jessica, I uh…I imagine you know about Moona’s mother coming to visit.”

“Yes, Miss Baxter. Moona’s going to the airport now to meet up with her.”

“Oh, dear.” Miss Baxter stood there, fidgeting with her hand on the back of her neck while her eyes turned heavenward in thought. Very un-Miss Baxter like behavior. “I suppose we should…”

“Moona said she’s staying at the hotel. Made it sound like the two of them were hanging out there. Jet lag and all.”

“No mention of dropping by?”

“Not that Moona said. I can text her if—”

“No, no, it’s fine.” Miss Baxter waved her hand in the air, as if shooing imaginary insects, or fleeting thoughts.

I sensed not everything was right in Miss Baxter’s world. “I’m sorry, Miss Baxter. Do you—?”

“It was a long time ago.” Miss Baxter waved her hand again. “I’m sure she’s forgotten. I’m happy Moona will get to spent time with her.”
