Meeting the family

When Marinette gets in her house she sees her parents cooking.

" Mama, papa! " Marinette says.

" Hey sweet tea, " Her dad says.

" Hi, " Her mom says, " I need to talk to you, "

" Okay, " Marinette says.

" Please don't speak in mandarin, " Her dad says, " you guys know I can't understand it, "

" It's girls stuff sweetie, " Her mom says, " We're gonna talk about puber-"

" Okay, I'm good, " Her dad says.

Marinette and her mom start speaking in mandarin.

"Who was here, " Sabine (her mom) says.

" No one, " Marinette says.

" Don't lie to me, " Sabine says, "I know you had a boy over, "

" Okay yes I did, but They are friends from school, " Marinette says.

"Then why was there a condom in your garbage?" Sabine asks.

" Okay well that, " Marinette says, " that was my boyfriend's, "

"I thought Luka broke up with you half a year ago, " Sabine says.

" What does Luka have to do with girl stuff?" Tom (her dad) says in English.

" Nothing, we just got off track, " Marinette says in English.

Sabine and Marinette go back to talking in Mandarin.

" Not him I have a new one, " Marinette says.

"Why haven't we met him?" Sabine asks.

" Because we started dating at the beginning of the school year, " Marinette says.

" You lost your virginity to your boyfriend of five days, " Sabine turns to her dad still talking in Mandarin, "Your daughter lost her virginity to your boyfriend of five days. "

"Yeah, I definitely lost my virginity to him, " Marinette lies, " But we've known each other before that, "

" Call him over we are having dinner with him, " Sabine says.

"I uh...Okay, " Marinette says.

"Don't tell dad about the condom, " Marinette begs.

Marinette and Sabine stop talking in Mandarin.

" We are having company, " Sabine says, "So we must make it special, "

"Yes your daughter has a boyfriend, " Sabine says.

" We must make this perfect, " Tom says, "for our future son in law, "

" we're just dating, " Marinette says.

"You said the same thing with Luka and look how that turned out, " Sabine says.

"He's different mom, " Marinette says.

"Call him, " Tom says.

Marinette calls Adrian.

" Hey, what's up, " Adrian asks.

Marinette walks into the bathroom.

" My mom found the condom, " Marinette says.

"Oh God, what did she say, " Adrian says.

" She wants you over for dinner, " Marinette says.

"Okay, " Adrian says.

Adrian texts his father about going.

" My dad says only if you come to our house tomorrow so he can meet you, " Adrian says.

" Great! How fast can you be here? " Marinette asks.

" Not long maybe 15 minutes or less, " Adrian says.

" Okay see you then, " Marinette says.

"Bu bye sweet tea, " Adrian jokingly says.

" Bye Adrian, " Marinette says.

Marinette walks out of the bathroom. She pulls a chair up to their kitchen island.

" So what's his name, " Tom asks.

" His name is Adrian Agrest, " Marinette says.

" Adrian Agrest, " Tom says, " I see you have a taste Marinette, "

" You mean Gabriel and Emilie Agrest's son, " Sabine says, " The fashion model,"

" Yes that's him, but that's not why I like him, " Marinette says, " He's sweet, "

Marinette goes upstairs to change out of her school clothes to fancy clothes. Then the doorbell rings.

" That was quick, " Tom says," Were not done, "

" Go open the door Marinette, " Sabine says.

Marinette opens the door to see Adrian flowers.

"Look, honey, he got her Daffodils, " Tom says, " Marinette loves Daffodils, "

" How did you know I like Daffodils?" Marinette asks.

" It was thanks to Alya, " Adrian says, " I like your dress, "

" Thank you, " Marinette says, " I sew the flowers on it, "

"Let him in sweet tea, " Tom says.

Marinette lets him in. They sit next to each other at the table.

"We're done, " Tom says.

" We present Chow mein and orange chicken, " Sabine says.

"Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Dupan-Chan, " Adrien says.

They sit down with them. Marinette and Sabine start talking in mandarin.

" He's handsome, " Sabine says.

" I know right, " Marinette says.

Adrian and Tom talk in English.

"Why are you guys talking in mandarin, when we have company, " Tom says in English.

"I don't mind Mr. Dupan, " Adrian says.

"Tom is fine, " Tom says.

"Okay, " Adrian says.

Marinette and Sabine continue in mandarin.

" Your makeup is coming off, " Sabine says.

" I'm not wearing makeup, " Marinette says.

"You are, " Sabine says, " you're not good at covering, "

" I- umm, " Marinette says.

" It's fine, just make sure you fix them before your father sees, " Sabine says.

Marinette excuses herself to the bathroom to fix it. After a bit, she comes back out still with Sabine and Marinette speaking in mandarine.

"All fixed, " Marinette says.

Marinette sits down.

"He and your father are having a good time, he really is as sweet as you said, " Sabine says.

" He changed his hair for you guys, " Marinette says.

" What did he do to it? " Sabine asks.

"He made it less poofy, " Marinette says, " It's normally as fluffy as a cloud, "

"Is it like your dad used to be?" Sabine asks.

"Even more floofy, it's beautiful, " Marinette says, " You know that song Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars, "

"Yes, why?" Sabine asks.

" It reminds me, of him just with male pronouns, " Marinette says.

Little did they know Adrian was fluent in mandarin from his homeschooling so he chimes in, in mandarin.

"Thank you, I like my hair too, " Adrian exclaims, " But I always thought that song reminded me of you, "

"You know mandarin too, " Tom whines in English.

Marinette's jaw drops, " Wha- where did you learn mandarin.

" I was homeschooled and learned Mandarin for fun, " Adrian says.

Sabine stands up and says, " Marinette you must marry this man! "

" I second that, " Tom says.

" Mama, Papa, " Marinette says embarrassed.

" Is the regular at your house?" Adrian asks.

"Only whenever a boy comes over that I have any interest in, " Marinette says, " Because they want to see how you react to their weirdness, "

"That's sweet, " Adrian says.

" and embarrassing, " Marinette says.

Sabine sits down.

" Why don't you tell us about yourself, " Tom says.

"Okay, " Adrian says, "Well, I have no siblings, "

" I love hamsters, " Adrian says.

"Marinette also loves hamsters, " Sabine says.

Marinette rubs her hands on her legs.

" What's wrong? " Adrian whispers.

" I'm nervous, " Marinette whispers.

Adrian holds Marinette's hand.

"I know many languages, " Adrian says.

" Marinette does too, " Tom says, " Which ones do you know? "

"I know Spanish, French, and Mandarin, " Adrian says.

" It's like you and Marinette are made for each other, " Tom says.

"She knows those languages too plus Dutch, " Sabine says, "Tom only knows French, and I only know Mandarin, "

"Tell us more about you, " Tom says.

" My favorite fruit is Mangoes, " Adrian says.

" I like Pineapples, " Marinette mumbles.

"Study shows that's why your sweetness is so sweet, " Adrian says in Spanish.

"Already taking advantage of them not knowing Spanish are you, "Marinette says in Spanish.

" That's cool but I don't really like talking about myself, " Adrian says in English.

" That's fine, " Tom says, " Do you want to watch a movie then?"

" Sure, " Adrian says.

They go to the living room to watch a movie.

When the movies over Adrian says, " I think it's time for me to go home, "

" Oh yes, it is getting late, " Tom says, " Marinette why don't you walk Adrian out, "

Marinette walks Adrian to the door.

" How did I do?" Adrian asks.

" Really good, my parents like you, " Marinette says, "Good night, Adrian, "

" Good night, Marinette, " Adrian says while going for a kiss.

"Good night, " Sabine says before he could.

"See you tomorrow, " Adrian says while walking away.

" See you, " Marinette says while closing the door.

" What's happening tomorrow?" Tom asks.

" I'm going to meet his parents, " Marinette says.

" You're going to meet his father, " Sabine says, " His mom is no longer with us, "

" Poor Adrian, " Marinette says.

Marinette goes to her room. Tikki flies out of her bag.

" You're going to meet Gabriel Agrest tomorrow, " Tikki says, " And also you were smashing me with the chair during dinner, "

" Sorry about that, " Marinette says, " I am going to meet Gabriel Agrest tomorrow! "

Tikki nods her head.

"I have to find a good outfit, " Marinette says.

"Let me choose it, " Tikki says, " I have good fashion sense,"

Tikki goes to her closet. She pulls out a black long-sleeved dress with mesh sleeves and black flats.

" That's so pretty, " Marinette says, " I'm gonna wear it, "

" And it matches your other purse so I can come, " Tikki says.

Mariette's phone speaks "You have one new message from heart emoji babe heart emoji, "

Marinette goes to her phone. Marinette and Adrian text.

"Miss you already 😢, " Adrien texts.

" You just left, " Marinette texts.

"I can't wait to see you tomorrow, " Adrian texts, " I miss your beautiful face, "

" You can see me if we video chat on Snapchat or something if you have it, " Marinette texts.

" Yes I do, what's your user name?" Adrian asks, "Mine is The Adrian Agrest,"

" It's Marinette Dupan-chang, " Marinette types.

"I got it, " Adrien texts.

They get on video chat.

" Hi, " Adrian screeches.

" Hi, Good thing I have headphones in because you probably would have woken my parents, " Marinette says, " Is your room soundproof or something, "

" It actually is, " Adrian says.

"That will come in handy, " Marinette says, " You remember how I told you the story about my ex and his name and stuff, "

" How could I not for remember, " Adrian says.

" I get that, " Marinette says, " But you never told me anything about your exes or stories about them, "

" Do you want me to tell you about them now?" Adrian asks.

" I can't believe I'm saying this, but Yes, " Marinette says.

" Okay then, their names are Kagami Tsurugi and Lila Rossi, " Adrian says, " You might have heard of them, "

" I know of them, Kagami Tsurugi the daughter of the first blind world champion in woman fencing, " Marinette says, " and Lila Rossi the daughter of the best lawyer in Paris."

" Which one did you do 'it' with?" Marinette asks.

" We need to start talking in Spanish, " My parents just woke back up to clean, " Marinette says.

" Good thing they don't know Spanish, " Adrian says.

" yeah good thing, " Marinette says.

They start talking in Spanish.

" What place makes you turn on the easiest?" Adrian asks.

"The second question of the night and it's already about sex, " Marinette says.

Marinette sets the phone on her desk and flips the camera to her.

" And this is what I'm wearing now, " Marinette says, " and yes I am still in the dress from earlier, I need to change, "

" It's fine, " Adrian says.

" Is it okay if I change right now, " Marinette says.

" It's not my body so I can't answer that, " Adrian says.

" Fine then, I'm changing on video chat, " Marinette says changing.

Adrian looks away.

"You can look, it's nothing haven't seen before, " Marinette says.

" Still, " Adrian says.

" Your loss, " Marinette jokingly says.

Marinette changes.

" I'm done, " Marinette says.

Adrian yawns.

" Are you tired?" Marinette ask.

" No, I'm good, " Adrian says.

"Okay, " Marinette asks, " What time should I get to your house?"

" It doesn't matter, " Adrian says.

Adrian falls asleep.

" Get in the bed Adrian, " Marinette wakes him up, " Make sure you put your phone on the charger so I can text you,"

Adrian gets in his bed.

"Good night Adrian, " Marinette says.

" Good night, Sweet Tea" Adrian jokingly says.

They hang up the phone. Marinette goes to her door to get something to drink from the kitchen. When she opens the door her mom falls on the ground at her feet. Everyone is speaking in English.

" We're you listening to my conversation?" Marinette asks.

" Yea but I don't even know what you were says because it was in Spanish, " Sabine says, " I know is you were talking to Adrian, "

" Can I get juice?" Marinette asks.

"Of course, " Sabine says.

Marinette goes to the kitchen to get a cup of apple juice and pineapples.

" Why are you eating Pineapples so late?" Sabine asks.

" It keeps my sweetness sweet, " Marinette thinks.

" I'm just hungry, " Marinette says.

" Okay, " Sabine says, "don't stay up too late, "

Marinette quickly finishes her late-night snack then goes to bed.

In the morning Sabine wakes Marinette up.

" Time to get up or you'll be late, " Sabine says.

" Wha-what time is it?" Marinette asks.

" It's ten, " Sabine says, " Now get up, "

" I'm up, I'm up, " Mariette says.

Sabine leaves her room. Marinette finishes getting ready. She starts going out of her room. She goes downstairs to eat something.

Marinette texts Adrian, " Hey, I'll probably be at your house in ten minutes, "

" No need I'm in front of your house, " Adrian texts back, " Your mom called me, "

Marinette looks out the window

" I'm coming down," Marinette texts.

Marinette leaves her house and goes downstairs. When she does downstairs she sees Adrian next to a limo. She walks towards him

" What's this for? " Marinette asks.

"It's the only car, my family has, " Adrian says while helping her inside.

" How did my mom get your phone number, " Marinette asks.

" I don't know, " Adrian says.

" She crazy, " Marinette says.

"Are you nervous?" Adrian asks.

" No, why do you ask, " Marinette says.

" Because you're playing with your purse zipper, " Adrian says.

" Okay, Yes I am nervous, " Marinette says.

" But haven't you met a boyfriend's parents before?" Adrian asks.

" Yes but I already knew his parents because I'm friends with Juleka, " Marinette says, "this is different, "

"It's okay, " Adrian says.

He holds her hand. When they get to his house he opens the door for her. She gets out of the car and they walk to her front door. They see a flash.

" What was that?" Marinette says.

" Adrian has a girlfriend! #TeenRomance and post, " Someone says in the bushes.

Adrian lets Marinette inside.

" Having a person in your bushes is weird, " Marinette says.

" I know, " Adrian says, " He won't leave, "

Gabriel and Nathalie walk in the room.

" Hello, Mr. Agrest, " Marinette says.

" Hello, Miss Dupan-Chang, " Gabriel says, " And please call my Gabriel, "

" I go actually go by Marinette, " she says.

Gabriel gestures to Nathalie, " This is Nathalie, my Secretary, "

" Nice to meet you, Nathalie, " Marinette says.

" Nice to meet you too, " Nathalie says.

" May you come with me?" Gabriel asks Marinette.

" Sure, " Marinette answers.

Gabriel walks Marinette to his desk. She looks back to Adrian to see him giving her a thumbs up.

" Adrian tells me you want to be a fashion designer, " Gabriel says, " Can you show me some of your designs."

"Okay, yeah, sure, " Marinette says, " All of them are in my phone just in case I lose the paper copy, "

" Very smart, " Gabriel says.

Adrian walks into the room to see the designs. Marinette shows him her designs. Gabriel turns around to see Adrian doing a yes or no gesture. Gabriel nods his head in approval. Adrian does air pumps.

" If you let me, I can put them in my next fashion show, " Gabriel says.

" Of course, " Marinette says, " thank you, "

Adrian walks up to Marinette. He holds her hand.

" My dad can't speak any other languages, " He whispers.

" Good to know, " She whispers back.

"Those are all the Designs Mr- I mean Gabriel," Marinette says.

" Let Adrian show you around the house, " Gabriel says.

" Okay, " Adrian says.

Adrian walks Marinette around his house. They stop in front of a large photo of a woman with blonde hair.

" Who is this?" Marinette asks.

" It's my mom, " Adrian says.

" You have her eyes, " Marinette says.

Marinette turns to Adrian who is crying

" It's okay, it's okay, " Marinette says hugging him.

" I miss her so much, " Adrian says.

" I know, " Marinette says, " I know how you feel, "

" How can you?" Adrian asks, " You still have your mother, "

" But, I don't have other family members, " Marinette says.

" Really?" Adrian sniffles, " who?"

" My little brother and sister, " Marinette says, " Tom Jr. and Ezra, "

" You never talk about them, " Adrian says.

" I know because it's hard, " Marinette says while tears fall from her eyes, " they passed away in a car crash, "

" I'm sorry I brought it up, " Adrian says.

" No, it's okay, " Marinette says while she lifts her bangs, " I was in the crash too but the only thing that happened to me is this long cut on my forehead, and a minor foot injury,"

" I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry so sorry, you don't have to talk about it," Adrian begs, " do you forgive me, "

" You didn't do anything wrong, " Marinette says while fixing her bangs.

Adrian hugs Marinette.

" It's okay, " she wipes his tears, "want to show me around more?"

" Okay, " Adrian says.

" I'm so stupid, " Adrian thinks.

He shows her around. He starts showing her his room.

" This is the room I saw last night, " Marinette says, " I can tell by the wall, "

Marinette and Adrian walk out of his room. They go back to the main room. Adrian wipes tears off her face. When he does that they freeze.

" I uh, " Marinette mumbles.

"You said my eyes are mesmerizing, but yours are, " Adrian says.

Nathalie walks in the room, " Adrian, "

Adrian and Marinette move away from eachother.

" Sorry, " Nathalie says, " But, your father says it's time for Marinette to leave, "

Marinette and Adrian go to the limo. The driver drives them back to Marinette's house. Marinette puts her head on Adrian's shoulder.

" That was weird, " Marinette says, " I've never talked to anyone about my siblings except my parents, "

" I'm still sorry, " Adrian says.

Marinette raises her head. She hugs him.

" I've wanted to talk to someone about for so long it's almost been a year, " Marinette says still hugging him.

He rubs her ear, " I'm still sorry,"

Marinette melts.

" It works, " Adrian thinks.

Marinette puts her head on his lap. The driver stops. Adrian let's go of Marinette's ear. They get out of the car. Adrian walks Marinette to the door.

" I'll see you Monday, " Marinette kisses his neck, " That's from earlier, "

" Bye, " Adrian says.

Marinette goes into her house. Adrian leaves her house.
