Carey and everyone awake watched him as he drove away into the night with her car.
"Sorry, i will try to reimburse you for it." Lyon said as the car disappeared beyond the forest.
"It's okay, but who was he, exactly?" She asked as she turned to him in the en-battlement.
"One of the high guardians." He said turning back to the castle behind them. "He's one of the four kings of the old earth. From what i head, he was..."
He tensed and groaned as he touched his stomach.
"You okay?"
"Yeah. He was once a Pharaoh to the Egyptians but the king of the guardians stripped him of everything after the Egypt attacked Punt, he may be weaker but he's still strong enough to wipe Acadia off the map. The keeper included."
As he spoke, Carey saw his bandages stain red in the light of the waxing moon that was high up in the sky. "You're bleeding."
"Don't worry about it. It won't kill me."
"Okay, What is he doing selling black market goods?"
"All guardians are peculiar since they all lack certain emotions and aren't power hungry." He took a deep breath and helped balance himself with his sword.
"Sure you're okay? You need..." Before Carey could touch and assist him as he seemed to be almost about to stumble and fall, he gave her a murderous stare she had seen a lot in her life and stepped back. Old werewolves are a pain in the ass when they grow weak.
"Don't worry about it." He said without flinching an eye and kept on talking about PK and the keeper.
"Can you bring in everything from the boat?" He asked after a moment. "If something steals his boxes he might come back pissed and kill us. And make sure my people don't steal from him, please?"
"I will, if you go get yourself treated again."
"I am going right now." Carey stared at him, giving him the look he hated with his guts. Both worry, accusation and those small puppy eyes he never had armor against.
"Don't worry, I'm okay. PK might have come here..." He froze as if he was either waiting for either pain to settle or remembering something. "He said hundred and twelve."
He looked at her like that was something instead of how long they've last seen each other.
"Yes?"
"Tell your men to stay alert and move the kids to a safe place, we are about to get another assault." He said as he scrambled to his feet and forced himself to move.
"What do you mean?"
"PK is like the Viking, they never show up or say anything for nothing. Bring his packages in and stand guard!" He almost roared as he jumped off the high en-battlement and ran to the back gate. "We might get attacked tonight!"
Carey stood for a second not knowing what was going on or being said by him as he started giving frantic orders around.
"What should we do?" Nate asked in her head. She sighed and replied. "As he says."
The two packs went into action with kids crying and the grown ups moaning and groaning as they were moved to the temple. An hour and a half later, silence reigned over the castle grounds with warriors patrolling everywhere.
"Anything?" Carey asked as she closed the temple doors.
"No."
"No."
"No."
"No."
"No."
"Its like were watching a silent movie with no captions. All silent." Mike said watching the lake behind Lyon.
The former General's sword blade turned dark black from its plain silver as he clenched its hilt till his knuckles turned white. His eyes that were once golden turned black with slit red pupils that didn't help his vision.
"Keep your eyes peeled."
"What are we looking for exactly?" He asked again looking at the far bank but saw nothing out of the ordinary.
"Hell's descent."
The full moon rose from horizon and slowly climbed up the sky and approached the mountain terrain. But nothing came. Restlessness ravaged the pack as they embraced themselves for an attack that simply hasn't started.
As midnight approached, half of the members of both packs rested their nerves, including Carey. But none found themselves capable of sleeping. Except Nate.
Carey lay in bed with her mate, her thoughts settled. Questions she had during the day cleaned themselves and remained at the back of her like nostalgia. But like two days prior, she grew concerned about Allie as she crawled into her head.
She shouldn't have told her Aury. She shouldn't have...but she turned nights ago. She seemed stronger than anyone she knew except Laurent. She was even bigger than Marcus. But Marcus' size could easily dwarf her dad and...
She touched her locket as the delivery guy's words crossed her mind. "You don't look for Laurent. He will come for you. You have something that he needs so he will come whenever he's ready." The delivery guy had said as he drove off with her car a few hours ago, four five hours ago.
She had then spent an hour putting away PK's boxes from the boat and packed them in Lyon's basement where no one could steal them because Lyon was way more afraid of pissing him off than loosing his pack which was a bit puzzling and understandable. The other hours were spent moving everyone into the temple and a good twenty minutes was on who was the best investment to use the miracle ointment one. Lyon, Theta or the lunar. But the best in respect to everyone was the theta to help heal others and so was she given the medicine which worked on her immediately.
Nate pulled her into his arms and kissed her. "What are you thinking about?"
"Nothing just... do you really think that guy was telling the truth?" She asked him.
"About?"
"Finding Laurent."
"I don't know. But you've been searching for Laurent and your sister for almost twenty years. I think if he wanted to be found you would have found him already."
"So should i wait for them to find us?"
"Carey, do you remember what you said about Ally when she was young and hurt?"
"You were not there then."
"Yes, but I've seen memories of it in Mike and the others heads. She never wanted to be around people especially when she saw blood. You told Abigail to have patience, with her, she would come out of her shell when she was ready to interact with others."
"I know. But i don't..."
"Shh. You know that at least they are alive for now. Just be hopeful that they will return like Allie did when blood didn't bother her anymore."
"Okay." She agreed and kissed him and she felt the locket once more.
She heard someone whine and she got up.
"Ain't you gonna sleep?" Nate asked holding her hand as she got off the bed.
"I'm going to see kids. You sleep." She said before kissing him on the cheek.
"You haven't slept since we left home." He looked into her eyes and held her back. "You need to sleep."
"I'm okay, I'll sleep in a short while."
"Promise?"
"Promise."
He let her go as she walked out of the room. She walked to the temple's prayer room where all the sick and other kids were now tucked away and asleep.
She looked around the sacred tree and saw the kids sleeping tightly in the light of both the waxing moon and the little packets of white fur that glowed a faint white light like that of the moon supplementing the light from the ancient torches mounted on the walls. she grew glad everyone was okay and took out the white fur. Her's didn't glow like the others. It remained white only but didn't produce any light.
"You up?" The old lunar asked her sitting up up from her bed.
"Yeah, i couldn't sleep." She admitted as she turned to her. "You?"
"The pain is keeping me up." She said with a smile and winced at the pain. "Guess this is what every human feels like when they are hurt."
"I guess it must be terrible."
"It is, very."
Carey walked up to her silently and sat by her. "I'm sorry I couldn't do much for you and everyone else."
"No, you've done more than enough." The lunar replied as she saw Carey's hand rub on her pendant. Again.
"I don't feel like I've done anything for all that you've done for me in the past and..." she rubbed the locket and looked up to her. "Can i try something on you?"
"If it would help with the pain, I don't care, you can do it."
Carey took the locket off her neck and came closer to her. "I'm not sure this would work but..."
She opened the locket and a picture of her young self with Laurent, and two other people stared back at her. An older girl with dark brown hair and looked a lot like Carey but with a lot less childish fat stared back at the camera that took the photo. Or rather at and somewhere else with her cross eyes and her blue tongue sticking out.
The other boy had a crazier look in his eyes and wore a totally naughty smile. He would have looked like a normal naughty, carefree kid but the white patches on his hair around his temples made him look ancient rather than like a child. Especially with missing eyebrows.
She took the green sapphire stone that fell from the locket and placed it in between Kalla the Lunar's collar bones.
"Who are those people?"
"My siblings." She said as she grabbed the glass of water placed by the bed.
"You didn't say they looked naughty."
