Chapter 61

The world wasn't the same since the heroes lost at the hands of the combined forces of the LOV and MLA. After the fight, Shiagarki flew immediately to Tartarus prison, freeing all the prisoners who went rampant and freed his master, All for One.

Dabi's identity being revealed caused a public upstart for the population, as it added fuel to the fire. The outcome, trust in heroes after this one incident plummeted, and were currently going through tough times.

Villains were on the street, attacking people or just doing whatever the fuck they do, while the civilians tried to fend for themselves.

Not many heroes did anything about it. Many heroes retired after the battle. Seeing the destruction of an entire city, multiple people dying, including comrades, made them face reality.

The ones who had the will to go on took to the streets to do everything they could to help, given the situation.

The students from class 1-A were currently dealing with their problems. They have been admitted to the hospital for their injuries, Axel being the only one with minimal.

Other than that, however, they were morning the death of one of their classmates and a hero.

Mirio Togata.

Sir Nighteye.

In the fight against Shiagarki, he went through for a punch. He was cautious during the fight, given how powerful Shiagarki was, but he couldn't account for Shigaraki's quirk to affect people in a given range without touching them.

So when he went in close to Shigaraki, Shigaraki destroyed him. No words were spoken as Mirio crumbled to dust right in front of the hero's eyes.

Nighteye on the other hand died at the hands of Dabi. He helped the class 1-A students were fighting Giganto to put the paralysis serum down his throat.

While doing so, he couldn't dodge Dabi who killed him with his flames, turning him into a corpse.

Axel sat down on one of the seats in the hospital. A blank look on his face, but his eyes were dead. He was currently beating himself over the fact he could have prevented their deaths if he got out of the dimension faster or if he had avoided being transferred there in the first place.

The thoughts wouldn't leave his head. He kept thinking about it over and over. He should have gotten out of there sooner. He should have just used his domain from the beginning. If he did, he could have protected his friends.

But he didn't. He had an inner conflict with himself on whether or not he should use the ability, with his friends lives on the stake.

He paid the price for that.

He felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked up to see his mother smiling at him.

" Let's go home and when we do. Just tell me everything. I'm here for you. " She said seriously to her son.

She could see the look on her son's face. He blamed himself for things he had no control over. He couldn't have known his friends would die. It could have even been possible that they would die regardless if he was there.

Axel stared at his mother who looked at her son with a kind but serious eyes. Axel nodded his head, agreeing with her. He got up and followed his mother out of the hospital, while Mina's and Kirishima's parents were single talking to their children.

He walked with his mother to their car, got inside, and drove off to their house. His mother knew routes where there were fewer amount of villains in the area. As the car drove away, a figure watched from the rooftops and began following the car.

As the car reached the house, Axel and his mom got out. They walked to the house as Axel followed his mother, his mind preoccupied with his problems. They never left his mind. They kept coming back.

They walked to the leaving room where Axel sat down on the couch with his mother in front of him.

" Axel. " She said as Axel just stared at the ground. Sighing to walked over to her son and kneeled on the ground.

She gently grabbed his face and made him look at her. Axel could only stare back, still in distress.

" Tell me, son, if you were there, would things be different? " She asked. Axel took his time as he looked at his mother.

" I don't know. " He said.

If he was there, it might have been possible or it would have done nothing. The outcome would stay the same.

" That's right. " She said. " You can beat yourself over all the time, thinking about " ifs " and " buts ", but the outcome has already been decided. Mina and Kirishima feel the same. They also blame themselves, thinking about the fight, thinking about " ifs " and " buts ".

Look at me. " She said. Axel looked at her, stared at her.

" If you forget them, they will die. " She said. Axel stared at his mother with a shocked look on his face.

" No one is ever truly dead until they are forgotten." She said as she hugged him. Axel hugged her back as tears fell from his face.

" It's okay. Let it out. " She said gently as Axel kept crying.

Live was cruel. She knew that. After all, Axel is only 16, yet he has to face off in a war, which resulted in a lot of deaths and has even killed someone before in self-defense, Nezu informed her about Axel killing Nine part, but she never spoke about it to Axel, since she wanted Axel to tell her, himself.

She let go of her son. She had a gentle smile on her face as she got up.

" Tell me everything. I'll be right here to listen. I won't be going anywhere, okay? " She said.

" Okay. " Axel said, wiping away the leftover tears on his face.

His inner turmoil reached its peak. He needed to speak with someone and his mother would listen. Though he would never get the chance.

The ceiling as something came crashing through. Axel could only watch as a fist slammed straight through his mother's abdomen.

" Axel... " She muttered before the figure pulled his fist out of her and she fell to the ground in front of Axel, dead.

Axel got up from the couch and stumbled to the ground as he kneeled beside his mother. The shock not leaving as he looked at the blood on his hands.

" Hahahahhahahhahahaa... " The figure laughed as he towered over Axel. Axel recognized the voice anywhere.

Muscular.

" It's been a while, hasn't it Axel. How's life been treating you? " He asked with a grin on his face as he looked at Axel.

Axel didn't even speak. He just kept staring g at his mother as Muscular looked at him with a grin. He grabbed Axel's head and made Axel face him, smiling at it.

" There's that look of horror that I've been wanting, ever since you beat the shit out of me. " He said as he let Axel's head drop to look at his mom again, still no reaction.

" It agonizing. That beat down, played on a loop inside my head, over an over. It wouldn't stop and made me mad every single time! " Muscular yelled, remembering his time in Tartarus, sitting in his cell with the only thing he could think about was getting revenge, a round 2.

Axel didn't respond.

" But now. I'll finally get what I want. " He said with a smile on his face.

His hand went straight towards Axel's head. It slowly crept closer and closer. Muscular's eyes widened when he couldn't move anymore. His hand wouldn't move closer. His feet, planted on the ground. His quirk wasn't responding.

Fear slowly started to instill itself in us head, as he looked at Axel who just sat there on the ground, with his mother in his arms.

" I am a fool. " Axel muttered with a bitter smile.

" I was afraid of people looking at me in disgust for what I had done before and wanted to avoid that. I didn't want the people who cared for me disgusted in me and how I changed, so I didn't embrace it.

Yet in the end, that doesn't matter. That was still me. That's part of me. Why should I care about how others look at me? If they don't accept me for who am then, then they weren't my friend.

I am a fool. " He said as he bitterly laughed at his stupidity, his ignorance, which cost him the life of the one person he treasured above all others.

Muscular stared at Axel, who slowly raised his head. He looked at Muscular dead in the eye, a tranquil smile on his face with his eyes closed before reopening them.

Muscular had felt fear up till that point, before feeling only acceptance as his body blew up and disintegrated into nothing. No trace of him was left.

Axel held his mother in his arms as he talked to himself.

" Though hearing it from them anyway, would hurt. " Axel admitted.

" I'm sorry, mom. " Axel said as tears fell from his eyes. He hugged her body close to his own as he wept. He held nothing back, wailing loudly at the loss of his mother. He made sure no one could hear him as he just wanted to have this moment to himself. His mother was dead, killed in his own house by someone who he had beaten before, and he couldn't do anything even when he had the power to do so.

Hours went by before Axel disintegrated her body as well, thanking her for everything.

" I love you. " He said as her body fully disappeared.

He got rid of her blood as well, before sitting on the couch. He stared at the wall while playing with the phone in his hand.

Making his decision, he opened his phone and clicked a number.

" Hello, Nezu. Can we talk? "
