Fearsome Rulers and Jake's hidden history
Rulers were fearsome beasts that were always present when humans experienced huge catastrophes. Rulers were female nightmares, they were extremely rare and were always surrounded by hundreds of thousands of Regulars.
The nightmare's population was mostly Regulars which had no gender, the beast Derek had fought was a Regular which explains its low intellect, from failing to distinguish the fact that Derek's aura had changed.
