Darby was sitting on the edge of her desk, Mathias firmly planted between her legs. His hand was beneath her loose top, still stroking her ribs. Edmund bit back his smile. Of course. He should’ve thought of that. Mathias was all for the tease.
“Finish your phone call?” His tone was far less playful now, and without the barrier of the wall between them, Edmund smelled the whiskey that coated his words. “The lovely Darby and I were about to discuss why it is you don’t take vampires for granted. Care to join us?”
Edmund hesitated as he drank them in. “Is your leg still bothering you?” he asked, closing the door behind him. “I knew you should have stayed home tonight.”
Mathias scowled and pulled away from Darby. “Stop treating me like a bloody baby. It’s fine.”
“Well, something’s wrong. What is it?”
