'What the hell? I thought Gwen had accepted that man's invitation to have coffee just to be polite and to piss me off. What was she there with him , at the Jewelry Store? Was she so shameless that she just met him and was already accepting little gifts?'

"How odd. Well, let's grab our food." Jared said and turned right, but Ethan was still on the same spot, looking at Gwen's direction. "Man?"

Ethan took a deep breath and looked from one side to another and just crossed the street.

"Oh, fuck!" Jared muttered under his breath and just followed his friend.

"I didn't expect you to be so shameless, Gwen." She, who was talking to Jared, looked at the voice.

"Ah, you. What do you want?" She asked. They were close to each other and he could see her eyes perfectly. The sunlight was making it look so bright and mysterious at the same time. Those green eyes… Ethan felt himself being attracted to her, like a magnet.

Jared's hand saved him from embarrassment.Ethan was leaning in her direction.

"Gwen!" he greeted her. "We were just going out for lunch when Ethan spotted you. How are you? Long time no see."

Gwen raised her eyebrow.

"I'm fine, thanks. Well, excuse me. Have a good lunch time." She turned to Johnatan and entwined her arm on his. They started to go away, when Ethan was taken again.

"Where are you going?" Jared tugged at his arm, but Ethan didn't mind it.

"None of your business." She answered, with her back to him. Ethan freed himself from Jared and got hold of Gwen's arm.

"Wow! Take your hands off of her!" Johnatan said, holding Ethan's wrist.

"I can fend for myself, Johnny, thanks." She said and he let go of Ethan's arm, but put his arm around her shoulder.

Ethan looked from one to another.

"Are you together? 'Johnny'?"

She pulled her arm from his grasp.

"I don't have to give explanations to you, Mr. Lennox. You and I have no relationship whatsoever. We are almost strangers, I'd say."

"Strangers? You were my wife!" He said. "I definitely am no stranger to you." He looked her up and down and she felt embarrassed

"But you are divorced now. Mr. Lennox, she does not want to talk to you, as you can see. And you are being quite inconvenient. Were you not going to lunch? hy don't you go your way and leave us alone?"

"Why don't we go and have lunch together, huh?" Jared asked, trying to make peace. They would say no, he was sure, and it was it.

"Fine!" Ethan said. "Great idea."

"No way." Gwen answered.

"I have to keep an eye, Gwen. He is my enemy and you know things about me. how can I be sure you're not going to just spill the beans to him?" Ethan asked, not taking his daring eyes from Johnatan.

"If you do this kind of things, Mr. Lennox, your problem. I don't. Don't judge me by your own actions. Now, excuse us."

They turned around and Ethan was about to follow them, but Jared got hold of him and, this time, he stopped his friend.

"What the hell are you doing?" He asked in a low voice.

"Making sure she is not telling him what is not his business!"

"Cut the crap!" Jared said and his tone made Ethan finally look at him. "You're jealou, that is the problem. But you don't have to make a fool out of yourself!"

"Jea… Jealous? Me? Of Gwen?" He said and scoffed. "Have you lost your mind?"

"The worst blind is the one who refuses to see." Jared said. "Let's go eat and we can talk about it."

Ethan nodded and went to the restaurant near the office building with Jared. Some people recognized Ethan, but no one dared to say anything. They knew he didn't like to be in the media, except when he clearly notified them.

"Spill it out." he said to Jared the moment they sat. "Where did you get the stupid idea that I love her?"

Jared frowned with a smile on his face.

"I never said that."

Ethan's turn to frown.

"Yes, you did. A few minutes ago…"

"No. I said you were jealous. Not that you loved her." Jared said and had a smirk on his face. Ethan's face became confused. "Look, brother. You have liked her for a looong time now. We all know that. You're just too headstrong to admit it. But you like her a lot, at least, if not love."

"This is ridiculous! I hate that woman!" Ethan said and laughed nervously. "How on earth can you have that idea of me liking her?"

"The way you look at her. The way you move around her. I was even disappointed in you when you slept with Darla. Like.. how could you betray your feelings like that?"

"I have no other feeling than hate for her. You know she could have stopped the marriage. My family was the one in debt and I had to fulfill my grandfather's wish. But she could have said she didn't want it and set me free!"

"You married her because you wanted to. And anyway, you could have asked for the divorce. You never did. If she had not done that, you'd still be married to her. Not even after Darla said she was pregnant, you decided to leave Gwen."

"That 's not.. I was going to ask for it, but she asked first."

"Were you really going to divorce her?" Jared asked and Ethan couldn't answer right away. He wanted to say yes, but then, he couldn't understand why he didn't say so.

"Why are we talking about it? About her? I want to eat and she is ruining the moment."

"If you say so. She is still single, you know… and she liked you a lot."

"Enough Jared!" Ethan said between gritted teeth.

Jared raised his hands, in surrender.

"Fine… lie to yourself. But then, don't complain about it when she finds another man. And I don't think it is such a distant reality."
