Rhett took a hesitant step into the room, scrunching his nose when the strong metallic scent of blood hit him.
The room was painted with blood, from the floorboards to the ceiling, but that wasn't the most disturbing bit of it. Lying close to the entrance were the dried headless bodies of three soldiers, and from their position in the room, it was obvious that they'd been killed around the same moment that they stepped into the room. Meaning, that their killer wasn't just one ordinary vampire.
Rhett wanted to make himself believe that they'd been attacked by multiple vampires all at once, but his common sense told him otherwise. There didn't seem to be much of a struggle and the soldiers hadn't even drawn out their weapons. Whoever did this was a calculative one-man army, killing them without hesitation after sneaking in.
He was also able to guess that the Beta was the one who called these soldiers up to their deaths to help him.
