Chapter eighteen

Claire braced herself as she stood in front of his door .this was the first time she would be meeting with Kelvin face to face for the past one month. she smoothen her hair and knocked on the door .

"Come in ." he sounded irritated.

The poor girl went inside and stood in front of him patiently as he was still busy on his system. after few minutes of standing ,Claire cleared her throat to get his attention. Kelvin looked up from his system and stared at her for sometime as if he was just seeing her for the first time before he said .

"Meet with my assistant for some signatures." he dismissed her with a wave of his hand .

Claire closed her eyes for a brief moment to catch her breath before she pivoted out of the office . she located his assistant's office and gave her signatures to some necessary documents. she was happy though for the promotion. at least her hard work paid off.

Claire was happy as she jogged and half run back to the CEO's office.

"Here are the signed documents and the letter of promotion. we now need your signature and stamp.. Sir .." Claire chewed on her lips as Kelvin flipped through the files .finally he picked up his pen and signed were necessary before he stamped it.

Claire's joy knew no bounds as she entered her new office.

"Woa ."she danced as she grazed her fingers on the outline of the furnitures of her new office. "this calls for a celebration."

she sat down on the chair and turn on the system and quickly went through the schedules of the previous staff. she saw when her boss usually have his lunch, coffee and so on .she also saw some incomplete works and decided to start from there.

"Schedule a meeting at 3 pm ." Kelvin dropped the telephone and returned back to the screen.

Claire nodded and start emailing other staff .

After the announcement and a little celebration of her promotion ,Claire finally got familiar with her new post though she was a new bie,she was given few weeks to be versatile with her position.and she proved her Worth.

The constant blinking of the screen of her mobile phone paused her aggressive fingers on the keyboard.she hastily picked it ,

"Hello -"

"What is wrong ?," the anxious voice of Carole thundered from the other side ,"tell me .have you been sold out ?"

Claire pinched her brows and breathed out ...God she has lost her common sense.

"Carl," she whispered into the phone as she looked behind her .she wasn't supposed to be answering any calls that is not related to work during working hours except when she's on break. it was prohibited. one of the many rules given to her .

"Oh forgive me for not calling for sometime now .there are so many things going on now and -" she cut her friend who was about to say something.

"We can't talk over the phone .come over to my place of work then we can talk. I'm going to drop the call now .bye ." she dropped the phone on the table and returned to the system.

Though her fingers were punching the keys ,her mind was not there. she felt terrible with herself.she didn't do the right thing ,she would have called her immediately she got home on the day she got promoted but it slipped through her mind.

"Uggh." Cliare tugged on her hair as she picked up her phone again. "No " she dropped it back,"she will come over." she sighed and faced the system once again. and true to her word, Carole arrived thirty minutes later.

"You got to be kidding me ." the beaming friend screamed as she flingned her bag and pulled Claire into a hug .

"Were you hiding it from me until your birthday ?" she asked amused. Claire rubbed her forehead and shook her head ,

"Jeez Carole must you be noisy?" she feigned annoyance. Carole narrowed her eyes on her and said ,

"You got promoted Ire and for the past two months you hid away from me ."she tip tap her feet as she place her hands on her waist.

"Okay okay ," Claire raised her hands in total surrender,"I did wrong .yes and I have no excuse. I could have told you on the day of my announcement but it slipped through my mind and also I can't use my mobile phone during working hours ."

" I've been trying hard to do my best and to get familiar with this position to prove my worth ."

Carole smiled and went over to where she threw her hand bag ,"here ," she handed her a wrapped food ,"I brought you lunch."

"Just like old times." Claire's eyes lighted up as she took it from her .just like old times...Carole do bring lunch for her sometimes. she looks after her like an elder sister and she too also send lunch to her . but ever since her fake marriage with Kelvin it stopped.

"Thank you." she wishpered from the dept of her heart.

"Okay ," Carole went back to her bustling side ," So how are you and Kelvin?" she straighten her self and lean closer to her friend .

Claire stared at her friend's gossip posture and laughed

"He's my boss and nothing else .I can only talk to him if it's related to work ," she shrugged her shoulders," and it must be in the office."

Carole hissed and snort " so you guys remain strangers after work ?" Claire nod ." it's okay that way right?"
