Tit for Tat

Roseline's POV

"Rose," Vincenzo called.

I reflexively started to stand up, assuming he was addressing me, but then I realized he was talking to his lover, the woman he now cherished, not me. Kevin noticed my initial reaction and gave me a sympathetic smile, understanding my embarrassment. My cheeks flushed crimson, and I tried my best to appear unfazed by the mistake.

Vincenzo didn't even look at me as if I didn't even exist. I averted my gaze, feeling a pang of hurt deep inside. I had hoped that by now I would be immune to such moments, but it is still hurting the same.

Every night I lay on the bed and pretended to sleep before he could come out of his study or back from Rose's room. I couldn't sleep until he returned but what hurts me is that he now sleeps at a hand distance from me. He doesn't cuddle, the way he used to do before.
