Gabriel knew his baby. He was about to hear a pitch for taking Elena to see the windows. “Sean and Ian are taking her to see the store windows tomorrow.”

“What about Colin?”

“Colin has a class to teach and you, you are staying home and playing it safe until our plans come to fruition regarding Tom Hughes.”

“We were able to go out today.”

“Tomorrow the announcement of our engagement will appear in the paper and after that you are in more danger from Hughes because he’ll know where you are. I don’t want to stand by your bedside again only able to wring my hands in prayer that you’ll make it. I’m begging you to cooperate and be careful.”

Kane’s complexion blanched. Gabriel thought his baby finally realized how much Gabriel loved him and how apprehensive Gabriel was when it didn’t look like Kane would recover.
