Chapter 9

The Hamilton's Secret

It has been a few hours since that tragic event, where both the Hamilton siblings lost their parents. For hours, they have been on the run. Not knowing why they were pursued, they just head along towards the nearest forest from the cliff, the safest place for them.

Flashback...

"Maliya!" Lucas shouted as soon as he saw Maliya lying unconsciously on the ground. He felt more distressed than ever. The fact that he had lost both of his parents at the same time is stressing enough, what more with her sister's rude behavior. He let go of her mother and ran towards Maliya, gently shaking her arms.

On the other hand, Lilith sobered up from her emotional distress. When she saw Maliya in her brother's arms, she felt her conscience eating her. With tears in her eyes, she then covered her arms in embarrassment and fall both of her knees in front of Maliya.

"Sorry, Liya." mumbled Lilith gently as she rubbed Maliya's blooded arms. She knew it wasn't her fault, she really knew it. Instead, she had been thinking that it was her fault all along. If only she didn't nag her parents about the town's festival, then this incident couldn't have happened. If only they just stayed at home, then maybe their parents would still be alive until now. But she didn't want to be blamed. She cannot accept that it was her fault. No, she really can't.

"S-sorry..." as her hands shaking while holding Maliya's hands. The pain that she had felt was even worst because of her conscience. She closed her eyes to calm herself. All she just want now is to correct her wrong. To take away all of Maliya's grief because of her misjudgements.

Suddenly, she felt a warm sensation flowing from her very heart into her arms and into her hand while holding the injured girl. A glowing light enveloped the three of them and as the greenish light faded, Lilith felt terrible pain from all over her body. Suddenly, cuts formed from her arms, unto her toes and even her face. The tingling was very sharp that she flinched and winced from every cut formed. A deep cut in leg formed and as flesh blood started to flow, Lilith hissed and shrieked in pain.

She then averted her gaze at Lucas, asking him for some answers about the strange thing that just happened. He sighed. "So your ability is back." he said.

"What? What ability? What are you talking about?" she asked continuously. Lilith's mind was in a haywire right now. In fact, all of her being was. With the terrible pain she felt in her body and her brother's strange answer about the "ability", she couldn't possibly take it all.

"It has resurfaced." Lucas said gently, as he saw her sister's confused look. " We all have abilities, our family does. Mother and father too." he explained as he stroke his sister's hair.

It was the fact that the Hamilton family had in secret. For generations, everyone in the family had been born with special abilities. Lilith who takes after her mother, had the "mirror ability". It was what her mother had used to save them. She transferred both of her children's pain to her. It became unbearable for her to the fact that her body couldn't take anymore of Maliya's. It was a really painful ability. Using it required great sacrifice, and it is what Marianne did for them.

James was an "aegis". He had the protection ability. He had activated it a while ago, to take some of the damages directed towards the carriage. Because his body was nowhere to be found after the incident, Lucas thought it was due to his ability.

Lilith was amazed to hear everything. She didn't even know a single thing about it all her 18 years.

"How about you, Lucas? What's yours?" she asked Lucas eagerly.

"I have the swift ability. I can move faster within a duration."

....

It was after they converse about their abilities when Maliya had woken up. She was bewildered to see all of her wounds gone reversed with Lilith's situation. Unlike Lilith, she was able to know the abilities because she also had one. But what tickles her mind is the fact that both of her parents neither had such abilities. With these in mind, they buried Marianne under a peaceful tree they found a meter away from the cliff. The three of them offered their prayers along with the flowers. Cries were heard as the two ladies were overpowered by their grief. The gentle pour of the rain synchronized with the loneliness they felt at the moment. Lucas stood silently in the back as he silently mourn for their loss.

It was at twilight, when they decided to go home. All wet from the pouring rain, it became hard for them to move, not to mention Lilith, with pain all over her body. Every step was filled with like daggers piercing all over her body that she hissed everytime she do so. Lucas, feeling her sister's pain, carried her in the back.

The path became very slippery, they need to find the road in order to go back home but the nearly black pitch surroundings made it really hard. It was also some time now that all of them had ran out of energy.

All of them was exhausted. Knowing this, Lucas pulled of the walk and decided to rest for a bit.

"Shh...." Suddenly Lucas asked the two to silence as his face hardened with a serious expression.

" There's five of them." Maliya said out of the blue making Lucas turned and looked at her. "I've seen it now. There's five of them." However, Lucas and Lilith couldn't seem to understand her.

Maliya couldn't do nothing but explain. " Like the both of you, I also have the "ability", and I am a "seer", I can see the future." both of them was shocked for a second. But they were taken aback as the footstep draw nearer. Several voices were heard from where they were.

" The smell became stronger, I think they're heading this way." a man said and the footsteps hurried towards them. They had been left with no choice but to run with their aching bodies, Lucas with his sister on her back.

"I can see them! Here!" a woman's voice were heard shouting. Maliya and Lucas struggled. With mud all over their feet as the path became slippery with the rain, they had no choice but enter the forest.
