Chapter 55: The Monster Within

My gaze darted to Jasper, Kento and Reed who were turning a deathly pale. I couldn't even tell if they were breathing.

I shoved my magic harder to the dark mages. Several fell and I didn't care if they breathed or not. But I would save my men...and Megan. "Let them go," I said between clenched teeth.

Nurse Jenkins beamed at me. "Is this the best you can do, Zoey? I'm disappointed."

"Shut up, shut up," I cringed as my magic inside me flared against my control at her words. It wanted to kill them all. Show this mage who was the better one.

"Zoey, you can do this," Megan said. "Unbind us and I can help you fight them."

I shook my head, my arms trembling as I held them out toward the circle of mages, trying to break through to get to Nurse Jenkins. She was hurting my men and I had to stop her.

"You know I was there when Alice was tested. When she was pregnant with you," Jenkins said. "We pushed her to go too deep into the ley lines on purpose."
