Chapter 9: First Time for Everything

The day moved on as slowly as it possibly could. Shayla tried to stay focused but was caught several times gazing off into space.
"Shayla? Are you okay?" Trent asked her.
She was definitely not okay.
"Yeah, I am fine. Just tired. It's been a long day of learning."
She gave him a fake smile and looked back up at the clock on the wall. It said two hours until quitting time. Two long, long hours.
She was still reeling from Evan's text, but it was wearing off as the day approached the end.
Shayla went to her office for her last break of the day. She had some texts from family to catch up on. Everyone wanted to know how her first day had gone so far.
There was one text though that she skipped right to. It was Evan's reply. It wasn't the text she had anticipated.
