Dinner was delicious. Shayla ordered a philly cheesesteak sandwich and a pint of beer. It had been a long day, so she might have two.

She studied Gracie's face. She was trying to remember her. If she had been watching Shayla for a long time, how come she didn't recognize her?

The waitress came and brought Gracie another glass of wine.

"So, I met your father through a mutual friend in the pack. It wasn't long after Seamus had turned him and brought him to New York to join the Manhattan Shadows. I was already living in New York. Seamus and I had gone way back. I knew what he was shortly after we became friends," Gracie said.

"How can you be friends with such a monster?" asked Shayla.

"I'm not anymore. Seamus wasn't always the way he is now. He used to be kind. When he turned your father, he did it out of love and concern. Same with Liam."
