Melanie's POV
"Why'd you stop? I can't see any Ghostball pitch, Adryan," Melanie said, getting out of the car.
"Come here," Adryan said, pulling her into his arms. "Melanie, there's no Ghostball. I lied; I wanted to show you something."
"You dirty wolf," Melanie scoffed. "What do you want to show me then?"
"Come with me," Adryan said, leading her forward.
Melanie stopped walking, awestruck, as she found herself standing on a stunning beach. "Wow, Adryan...this is beautiful," she said, her voice barely audible.
"Come on," Adryan said, taking her further into the vegetation.
As they approached the beach, Melanie noticed the sky - a cloudless, cerulean blue that seemed flawless. Rolling clear-blue waves crashed into each other with force. "Adryan, it's beautiful here," Melanie said, taking off her shoes.
As she lay on the golden sand, she gazed up at the brilliant sky, adorned with flashes of pink, orange, and purple. "Do you like it here?" Adryan asked, joining her.
"Of course, it's heavenly," Melanie replied. "Why did you bring me here?"
"I wanted to make you feel special," Adryan said. "My mom always brought me here when I was a kid; it soothed my soul."
"You said you had a nightmare; care to share?" Adryan asked, noticing her countenance change.
"Oh, it was just horrifying," Melanie said, her voice trailing off. "I saw an Alpha die."
"An Alpha?" Adryan asked, curious. "Do you know what pack he's from?"
"No, I'm still trying to figure it out," Melanie lied.
"Come on, I want to take a dip in the water," Adryan said, but Melanie had already taken off her clothes and dived into the water in her sheer lace underwear, leaving Adryan to gape at her. "Scared of the water, Froggy?"
"You wish," Adryan said, diving into the water after peeling off his clothes.
They swam for hours, reveling in each other's company, laughing, and finally made it back to shore when the sun came down. "Melanie," Adryan said, placing a kiss on her perfect lips.
Melanie opened her mouth, letting him in, and they both moaned in ecstasy. His hands moved over her body hastily, and hers did the same, as the need to feel him was unbearable.
"Adryan, I gotta go," Melanie said, gasping for air.
"Melanie, wait; I won't hurt you," Adryan said, pulling her in for another kiss.
"I gotta go," she continued, putting on her clothes and finding her phone. "Oh my god, 26 calls from Lissa," Melanie cried out, opening a text that read, "help me Annie."
Melanie's POV
"Lissa, pick up the damn phone," Melanie said, breaking into a cold sweat. "Calm down and talk to me," Adryan said, rubbing her shoulders.
"I can't reach Lissa, and she sent a text earlier that said 'help me.' Now her phone ain't connecting. That's bad. Get in the car; let's move," Adryan said, putting his jacket over Melanie.
"No, I won't let you come with me," Melanie said, a slight frown forming at her brows.
"Melanie, get into the car. We're losing time. Do you know the last place Lissa was?" Adryan asked, switching on the car.
"She said she was gonna see Skylar," Melanie replied, silently sobbing. "I shouldn't have let her."
"Skylar? Skylar Woods?" Adryan asked, frowning. "You know him?"
"Well, kinda," Adryan said. "The real question is why does Melissa know him? He's usually in the wrong crowd."
"Knowing Skylar, I'm pretty sure it was way more than just a couple of drinks," Adryan sighed, showing her a picture on his phone. "That's him."
"Who exactly is this guy?" Melanie asked, looking at the picture.
"Skylar Woods, ex-student of Asgard high, heir to the creed bloodline," Adryan said, avoiding eye contact and stopping the car. "He's a vampire. Son of Miguel Woods."
"Fuck, Melanie swore. "Wait, he went to our school?
My point exactly. And yeah, he got expelled for selling opioids," Adryan said.
"Fuck. Where did Lissa meet this scumbag? And how come I never heard this story?"
"His dad has got friends in high places. He pulled some strings so his family's reputation wouldn't be tarnished. As for Melissa, we're about to find out.
